So glad you appreciated Chris. He is amazing. The harmonies are with his wife. She stands a few feet away and plays the tamborine and watches him and is they are perfect together. He has a long beard, long hair, she has long blonde hair and wears flowy dresses alot. I love the fact that they are on the road together. Even pregnant, there she is just loving on him with the way she looks at him. He seems shy really, and doesn't look around much, but always turns and glances at her from time to time. I'm sure he gets so involved with the music he's making that she is still there....:-)

Amen. It’s so much in the voicing, instrumentation and arrangement. Put an R&B treatment on Hank Williams and it’s pretty good R&B. But this, to be fair, is way more classic R&B than country. This owes everything to Otis Redding and Wilson Picket and very little to Lefty Frizell or Merle Haggard. I hear lots Memphis and Muscle Shoals and not much Nashville or Bakersfield. A good song and a GREAT performance and arrangement.

A LOT of country music has soul. It's all about telling a story and evoking emotion. It evolved out of the Blues. :)
You have it backwards. Country comes from the folk songs and campfire songs cowboys used to sing, their harsh life and loves lost because their travels. They were soft sung because they didn't have a large band to play with, from there Blues takes inspiration. So Blues evolved from Country which evolved from folk singing.

I've been country since the 60s, but when Chris won the CMA Artist of the Year, I was in shock. I had never heard of him before. Granted, I had been out of the country, but still no excuse. As soon as I heard him perform, I became one of his biggest fans. I am very grateful that more of "us" are singing country, living country, and supporting country music. I no longer have to switch the radio station when visiting my hometown of Baltimore. I never thought I'd see that day. We live in Ghana now, and it never ceases to amaze me when I walk into the malls to hear country music playing. When I arrived a few years ago, it was all negative rap music.

This was my first time hearing Chris I had never heard anything that he had done but I kept seeing his name popping up. So even though I'm not a big country music fan I wanted to listen to something I wouldnt normally listen too. I was totally floored. His voice , it gave me chills. I'm definately going to check out more of his stuff. This man can sing, and with such soul. So glad I did this.

I've been Stevie's number one fan for many years. He has been dead for over 30 years and to me he was the king of blues. He has played with the best of the very best. BB, Eric Clapton and many more. That being said I found a 9 year old boy who can jam better then anyone I've ever heard. His name is Taj Farrant he is on TH-cam and your mouth will drop I promise you. He plays prince like a king!

Chris is not your average county artist, he is a cross between country and soul! I love soulful music and this song is one of my favorites. I think black people like this because it is soulful.

If you think that you’re gonna find other country artists who have Chris Stapleton’s appeal or style…You won’t. He’s the unicorn of the country genre for the simple fact that he really isn’t a country music artist this is straight up blues.
