Spencer’s joke was great. I rarely lol but I did at the punchline. It might be what some would call “a thinker” but I cackled. I also don’t think Jeff and Dan’s joke captured the essence of the Bellman. Theirs relied more on subversion. He was very much the everyman in that scenario, implying that he would not represent the best of humanity. Also, why would any leader rely on a lottery to choose such an important ambassadorship? I thought overthinking things was Dan’s m.o. and yet the joke has this glaring logical hole. “Dirty coins” wraps the joke in a neat little, concise package.
Jeff and Dan are maximalists but I think a core of the Bellman joke is minimalism, as you point out. Dan noted that too actually in his rewrite of the goat joke. Spencer is more of a minimalist, and had way less time to overthink it, I knew he was gonna come up with something perfect.
The point Dan was trying to get across was that Bellman had developed a sense of humor and that was what the aliens were looking for. Like the other guys were scared and they wanted to do what they were told to impress the aliens while Bellman didn't care about the destruction of the world. He just wants a photo to show his friends.
The fact they made the example of Mr. bean Fred Flintstone and didn’t think the real life example of Chuck Norris jokes kind of astounds me lol
They need to just upload the video episodes at this point. It's been years i doubt anyone is paying for them anymore.
