Duck Cake from Bluey | For Real Life!

- I’m giving it a crack! I present my attempt at the duck cake as seen in the wonderful Disney Junior show, Bluey! I watch this show with my 1 year old son all the time, we love it! The duck cake episode spoke to me in particular since Bandit, the dad, ends up making the birthday cake. He did his best and I did mine! The cake had its challenges, but was a lot of fun! My son smiles and makes quack sounds when he sees the picture of this cake, I take that as a big win.

Side note: this was honestly my first time making a decorated cake like this. It’s way harder than it looks! Apologies for any cringeworthy cake making mistakes, and kudos to all cake makers out there.

Ingredients:
2 boxed cake mixes
Eggs (per cake mix instructions)
Oil (per cake mix instructions)
Water (per cake mix instructions)
Enough icing for cake (1-2 per-made containers)
Yellow food coloring for icing
Popcorn, for hair
Sprees or chewy sweet tarts or round hard candy, red and orange, for eyes and buttons
Wavy potato chips, for duck bill
Black licorice, or yarn, for around the eyes

Looks good but Bluey is not a Disney show. Disney is just distributing it outside Australia.
Good catch! I learned that a little while ago myself also, I might need to update the video titles for my Bluey recipe videos.
For anyone may be interested: The original recipe is from the Australian Women’s Weekly children’s birthday cake cookbook - this thing was an absolute institution in the 90s, for those of us who grew up in Australia during this time it was basically the done thing - parents would make their kids birthday cakes from this cookbook. It had great cakes. Basically a cultural reference from Bluey

I’ve found that using a box mix doesn’t work well for carving cakes, it’s much more crumbly then cakes made from scratch. Just a tip for anyone trying to make it. 😊
Good tip! Next time I make a cake like this that needs carving I might try making from scratch.

@@abelD6 Frosting, or icing. You could use store bought white frosting and dye it yellow, or you could make some homemade buttercream and that would work too.
