Yes! It’s high time that the world promotes diversity in equine sports- there are many fantastic POC riders coming up in the ranks. Great to see the community becoming more complete

Everyone who can afford it. That rules out an awful lot of everybodies of all colours.

Where does it say that black people are not included or able to join in equestrian sports

    • @atherisGAY
      @atherisGAY ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's the thing, it doesn't say that, bit that doesn't mean it's inclusive. It's often a hostile environment on an interpersonal level towards people of colour.

Well first you'd have to make horses in general more accessible to anyone. Then you'd have to eliminate white womens' pride and prejudice towards anyone who doesn't fit into their idea of "acceptable" and change the entire culture of jealousy, gossip and pretentiousness around horses. Me and my horses live away from it all and have since never been happier. It's a toxic nasty culture no normal person would want to be subjected to, unless you have masochistic tendencies and love horses to the detriment of your own mental well-being. Speaking from personal experience if you can't tell. 😉 Sorry to say but the truth hurts. Until that isn't changed in some profound way, horses, or at least "the sport" will disappear from the public's radar.

“Pride and prejudice towards anyone who doesn’t fit their idea of ‘acceptable’”- YES YES this is such a huge problem in so many stables I’ve been in (I’ve been a hunter/jumper/eventing rider since the 70’s…not competing anymore, just loving horses and riding for pleasure). I’m a WF, and definitely don’t fit the mold (I’m on the eccentric side, an artist), there’s that pervasive feeling of “you don’t belong here”. No matter how well I ride, connect with the horses, bring treats, help around the barn etc. the judgement is palpable, and really discouraging. I’m not competing anymore! I just want to enjoy horses and have a supportive community at the barn….IMHO What is sorely lacking is the sense of a truly supportive community…and that is one of the biggest obstacles for this sport (setting apart the obvious economic barriers…horses are super expensive to maintain correctly)
Ugh, sorry for the rant… but it’s a sore spot for sure. Pretty obvious that I need to find another barn….
I will always love horses…but wow are there some rank mares out there😉

Good job! Now that women can compete equally from horseback, it's time to conquer the race barrier! Everyone should be able to experience the joy of equestrian sport. Money should be the only valid barrier and that can be overcome many ways!

Folk might be interested in the movie Concrete Cowboy and a program in Philadelphias Fairmount Park that gets black and brown kids in polo.

The sports didn't keep people out based upon race. This is literally nothing but an uncalled for virtue signal which means nothing. I competed my entire life with people of all races. The lower participation has always been a case of lack of awareness, time, location or interest; NOT racism.
But apparently unlike the horses, you do see skin color and think it's the most important aspect of a person. I'm really tired of this nonsense. If you truly wanted more to not judge by color, you wouldn't be embracing and pushing a world view which judges everything by color and injects it constantly everywhere. Spotlighting people regardless of their race, is how you let people know you see people as people, equally. Putting a spotlight on one group is saying that you do not see them as equal or expected. They are.

It's funny how different people see things so differently. I agree with you that larger obstacles to people of color are affordability and access. But who are you or any of us to speak in this young man's experience? The assumption that racism doesn't exist in the horse world just because you haven't experienced it is just like saying "I've never had a peanut butter and banana sandwich, therefore they don't exist."
If what you took from this 5 minute clip is that FEI is highlighting one group over over others, I'd say you lack a bit of perspective. This video doesn't suggest that racism is running rampant in the equestrian world. It's saying one experience is too many. Bringing awareness to those who don't think it does or should exist in equestrianism ask that when/if we do see it, we can do our part to help keep it out.

@Terrel Brown I hate labels. People use terms like Liberals and Conservatives to create division. It's just another version of Us vs Them. I hate it. We as humans, let alone countrymen, have far more in common than we do at odds.
I think good people think racism is bad and that the world is better without it. Not every social issue is a matter of race/racism, I agree. This kid started his initiative base on what he experienced. I'm sure he's not the only one! I've experienced it myself in the horse world, though admittedly is been the rare occasion. The difference is this kid is very young and it almost made him give up what he loves. Good on him for trying to bring awareness to an issue most would never know exists because they haven't had occasion to.

@Terrel Brown @Terrel Brown I guess you missed the part where he almost quit due to an experience he had with racism in the industry. You also missed where I agreed with you that not all social issues are about race. You also missed 4:30 - 4:48 of this video. You've missed a lot my friend. May be you should open your eyes to you own biases instead of trying to attack me over what you presume mine are.

@Terrel Brown and I meant it both times in attempt to have a cordial dialog. I posted to your comment initially because I could see we had common ground eventhough we saw this video differently. That's could be the start of a good conversation, I think.

Every one see skin colour ,don't be ridiculous,it's how you react too it, negatively or idc ,either way you see it . I'm black way back in the mid 80s I worked in racing stables ,and yes people where "shocked" when I turned up at the job because it was unusual ,people stared when they saw me riding out ,so they saw ,but I never really got any real static .All this doing is opening peoples choices .You no doubt don't have problem with docs on negative views of black people
