    This was a fantastic intro to cast iron griddles. Please make more of this kind of content. Also found out lodge makes a smaller version of that griddle that can fit on 1 burner.

    I'm not really a fan of the grill side. If I'm cooking a steak, I'd use the flat side. I want as much contact and as much sear as possible.

    Actually Lodge doesn’t manufacture these griddles, they simply market them under their brand name .. These same reversible cast iron griddles are manufactures by factories in China and sold to different brands as requested.. I have the exact same griddle except mine is marketed and sold in North America by the Lagostina brand.. I’ve had mine for about 8 years now and it still works great 👌 The trick is to keep it seasoned , oiled and clean and you’ll never see rust 😊

    I have a Lodge Dutch oven and grill pan. I also have some very old cast iron pans from my grandfather. I have to say the old pans have very smooth cooking surfaces compared to Lodge products which are kind of rough. The quality of the old pans are markedly better.

    Nice video.. I use a press alot, it helps get a good sear on meat. And when I toast a muffin, it will get a good toasts and then it kinda steam the rest of the muffin. Just be sure to get a heavy one. Mine is a 3 pounder. Plus it helps to cut down on grease spater.
    I even use it on the grill alot too...

    This video just popped up on my feed! You know I don't really need a big griddle. I have three round ones.but I wouldn't mind getting a rectangular one. But for me personally I would go with a smaller one from Lodge or Victoria. The one in your review is really really heavy! I was stunned how heavy that thing was. Picked up one a BassPro Shop. That's one heavy duty piece of cookware!

    My biggest problem with all stove top reversible griddle plates is under $100 is they are not perfectly flat. They usually tilt and move and do not sit rock solid on raised gas or electric elements. How is this one?

    I picked one of these Lodge Pro-Grid Reversible Grill/Griddles (SKU: LPGI3) up for less than $10 at a thrift store several months ago. It was in good condition, but I stripped and re-seasoned it anyway.
    Have not used it yet! I’m thinking that the only indoor use I might have is cooking bacon in my oven. And that full length drain trough to the side will be make this grill/griddle far better than my two smaller “Double Play Reversible Grill / Griddles (Lodge SKU: LDP3) which do not have that feature. LoL! One of those two smaller pans was also a thrift store “find” - the other I’ve had over a decade.
    For exactly the reason Tom mentions in his cons, I cannot picture trying to use any of these grill/griddles in my small poorly ventilated kitchen. Aside from the bacon in the oven? I’ll be using the griddle side on my outside gas grill (or Sportsman charcoal hibachis)

    I only use the smooth side. For me the biggest con is degreasing. In a skillet I just pour the grease into a jar. With the griddle I have to sop up the grease with paper towels.

    I have this griddle and have been cooking on it for years. I am now renovating my kitchen and will buy a Wolf 48” range. Would you get the 8 burner top (and continue to use the cast iron griddle) or buy the 6 burner top with a cold rolled steel griddle? The griddle that comes with the range cannot be removed and is infrared heat.

    Tom, I have this Lodge grill and I have not used it yet. However, I left some pots on it for several days, and it left stains from the pots that look like rust!!!! If it is rust, how can I remove it? Lodge Rust Remover? Steel wool? I am heartbroken that I screwed up this beautiful thing! Thank you!

    • @tomwadek
      @tomwadek  ปีที่แล้ว

      It happens to all of us. The good news is, it’s likely just surface rust. Try a bit of bar keepers friend and a scotch brite pad. Lodge rust remover and steel wool may also be a good idea if it’s a bit deeper than the surface. After, make sure you season it to protect the exposed iron. Hope this helps.

    I don't have a cast iron griddle, but I'm going to get one!!! If you would like to do it, can you do a video on "chef's pots," sauciers, everyday pans ---that kind of thing, the deep, rounded (wok-ish), bowl-ish fusion types of pots/pans which are versatile? The ones on Amazon are varied as to design and materials, but it's such a basic, useful pot/pan, that it seems like a good idea to narrow down the good choices. Just an idea to think about!!

    Tom, you seem to be a stainless guy (which is fine) yet Cast Iron is not even similar to stainless. I only mentioned this because of your cons for Cast Iron is simply the way most Cast Iron is. So your personal chores with Cast Iron is routine for most Cast Iron owners. Still a good review yet you probably want to stick with Stainless Cookware lol
