What you're saying there at the end, is essentially what Lester said last episode: "All the pieces matter". It's also why this show didn't really catch on when it came out, and people only really saw how good it was when they could buy it on DVD and bingewatch it. So many little details, stuff that you already saw here, it won't even give you a payoff by season 4 or 5, and it makes this show very much ahead of its time, even compared to other greats like the Sopranos, who are more episodic in nature. It also explains why a lot of people love to rewatch this, you're still picking up new stuff after watching it 4, 5 or 6 times.
You comment in the end of the video about how each episode gets better and better and it’s enhancing the story is why I tell people the Wire unfolds more like a novel than a traditional tv series And it’s like that every season amazing world building for an explosive ending 🤯
String being the consummate college freshman is priceless. Lecturing his people on stuff he literally just learned that week, and going out of his way to use the vocab words to feel smart.
19:34 well, McNulty was right to call out Daniels’ hypocrisy there. He was claiming “chain of command” as the reason he went to the Deputy Ops, but technically he should have gone to his immediate superiors first but instead went “up the back stairs to the deputy ops,” going around the usual chain of command. That’s why McNulty confronted him about it and asked him if the Deputy Ops had something over his head to make him take this information to him direct.
This show loves to run parallels between law enforcement and the dealers on the street. Stringer in class studying macroeconomics. Herc and Carver in class taking the Sergeant's exam. Stringer seemingly the only one taking it seriously. There are MANY other parallels too, so keep an eye out for them.
Stringer's Job is deal with the money. To make sure it's accounted for, to make sure the bills and the people that need to be paid are paid. The also own property and business. Knowledge is a requirement when dealing with real 💰
Hi Elie, wow bro you are powering through this show, probably the best way to watch it. You know truth is I picked up the box set for season one when it first came out from JB HI FI not knowing anything about it. The cover and the synopsis just intrigued me, From that point I was hooked, probably the best impulse buy I ever made. I’d never seen anything quite like it, it was so different to the standard police procedural that had been a staple before it. I remember waiting for months in between seasons, it was frustrating but exciting. I know you are a huge fan of The Sopranos and I like it also but it didn’t take long for me to set the Wire above it I think because The wire seemed to me to be so much more grounded in reality rather than escapist drama. An autopsy of a U.S. city. Baltimore is one the most important characters of the show. I feel as good as the Sopranos is it doesn't share the same ambition of dissecting the systemic problems of the modern city and as the seasons progress you will notice each one focuses on new terrain within that city, there’s hardly an aspect of the city’s public life it doesn't examine, and none of the characters are cheap caricatures, they are all treated with the equal respect. Their arks are mostly surprising but believable. It has a novel like density and was often described as Dickensian. As pretentious as that sounds if you know much about Charles Dickens and what and who he wrote about social issues and the plight of the poor in serialised instalments in the paper it is easy to understand the connection. Hey that’s just me each to his own. There were a lot of other great shows from this time, Sporanos was probably the one of the very first, most important and influential of this new era. THE SHIELD, ROME, BREAKING BAD, DEADWOOD all are fantastic and I hope you get to experience them all in time. It was ground breaking shows like these that turned around the idea that being involved in Television shows was somehow second tier to working in film. TV became the new go to space for performers and behind the camera talent to gravitate to. Not sure if that is still the case, I’m a little out of touch these days let me know. Oh and yeah, you can see from the Stringer at college reveal how out of the box this show is. Never a dull moment.
Married and having a girlfriend doesn't mean anything on this show. This isn't a show about morality. This is the show that brings the shadows and the backrooms, The Darkness to light.
Bro, this is a different world 🌎, the lesson in this is street kids know the rules and code of the street then book problems. That don't see that being beneficial in everyday life. A person living for a future will study a learn of a way to live for tomorrow, in the streets your living and trying to make it through the day.
Stringer being careful. How can you ask that, these dudes are making a Mill a month, you got Omar and people gunning for the Barksdale spot. Paranoia is the way to go.
2 things to take away from this episode, the first is the introduction of how the OMAR character is, & second is you see how the politics is going to be like on the show, by the way your reaction was funny when Stringer went to college😂
Taking a day off or two with uploading hope you have been enjoying the content and upload rate :) God Bless.
So no Sopranos reaction tn? 😵💫

It's like a hotel at Captain Teebs!
Kyuzo-dj2fp a Captain... Owns a chain of luxury hotels or something!

Hell yeah, was waiting for one. The rest of the season is just stellar.
Stringer probably called a taxi or uber? This was not only before uber, but before smartphones. What a strange time, so long and not long ago
Im enjoying your reactions to the wire, I also like how frequently we're getting them. Enjoy your time off.
Awesome analysis!
BROO THANK YOU WTF!!

In Carv and Hercs defense, I wouldnt tolerate being bossed around like that either
