Legoland Windsor opened to the public on the 17th March 1996. It was the second Legoland park to be built after Legoland Billund. Over 1000 sites were considered for the construction of the new Legoland, until in 1992 Windsor Safari Park went into receivership and the vacated site was chosen. In April 2005 The Lego Group decided to sell the Legoland parks which were purchased by the Blackstone Group and control parsed to Merlin Entertainment.
