- I sold a customer a PlayStation 5 on eBay. Later that week I received a message saying that it wasn't working, and that there was an issue. We get the PS5 back to see if we can resolve it!

What a dream customer. When I sell something on ebay that arrives borken I get people screaming at me saying I scammed them and leaving negative feedback, usually over 30 euro items as well, even when I calmly tell them that the can return it for free and get a full refund...
lesson one always be a good customer go through all the testing and send pictures videos
i buyt a 3060 gpu working and yaa usps kicked it seller did not pack it when i returned it i over packed it so i hope he learned but was very happy to deal with the seller as i think he was happy to deal with me
i don't get why people do that, i try to sort it out before leaving feedback as mistakes do happen.
@@Muddy.Teabagger yeah no clue either. I usually reach out to people that leave negative feedback telling them that they can return the item for free or that I can pay for repairs but if they leave feedback without contacting me they usually just do not reply at all.
@@trevor245 yer the last time i left bad feedback was when a seller was trying to get me to pay for shipping back for a item that didn't work at all, in the end after trying to sort it out with him i got ebay to look at it and they just gave me a full refund and the item ended in the bin after asking the sell if he wished the item back.
Fair play to the both of yous. Buyer seemed chill and you went above and beyond. Wish all transactions were like this

The good thing was that the customer was co-operative and didn't just straight up open a INAD. Most people tend to unnecessarily go down the INAD route.
It's not only that 4 chips were hotter than the others, but it's also the 4 chips on the same side of the board. I mean, it's not 4 chips at random, you know what I mean? It seems to me like those 4 chips are physically closer to whatever chip is providing them with power. The vram chips that are farther get little power and thus make the APU crash waiting for a response from them. Another idea is that they could have been liquid damaged, again, coming from the logic that they're all on the same side.
Best part of this channel is its simply real.

I bought last year from a sterling solid seller a Startt 3d printer, it was packed supremely well and when it turned up it looked like Evri had kicked it to death after the bomb squad had a go at it, half the acrylic braces were not just snapped but smashed, thankfully the seller worked in a laser cutting factory and was able to knock me out a brand new set of bracing and all sorted. What galled the seller is he paid extra for a fragile large package delivery thinking they would treat it with a little caution it wrapped in fragile tape.
Reputation can be a lot more valuable then profit alone
No doubt what was wrong with it in the first place, the fan/disc connectors were just true noob style collateral damage
Personally I'd replace the bottom left ram ic. It's prone to failure and can give some very odd symptoms
This customer seems like an absolute legend, and i had a similar problem after Royal Mail lost a parcel, and for the most part i feel like most people and don't take the mick, but unfortunately not everyone is so polite, but at least ebay mostly prevents people from making fraudulent claims.

Great customer service - its a shame the issue cant be pin pointed. Maybe its also worth trying a different PSU as its easy to try.

Had a similar issue, it sucks investing so much time and parts only to be greeted with sone sporadic issue 😢 i replaced the southbridge, then hdmi chip on mine and it worked! But when it started updating, it would freeze on 99%. Then it started freezing also on the homescreen… or a few seconds after starting a game. Just complete freeze, with audio glitching and everything. Am gonna have to take a loss on that one…
Oh btw, the second one i got, it just needed an hdmi chip and works fine, but doesn’t turn on when fully assembled… as if there is some 12 short that only happens when everything is screwed down… still struggling with that one. I blame Joey for infecting us with that repair bug 😅

I have to say, I wanted to fix a ps5 for fun, but any hopes of making an okay profit or any profit at all is out the window. If you factor in a labor rate for your work, if you total your bills and count it against your profit... man it makes me sad. No one could make a living doing this without youtube/content creation income.
My guess (changed this a couple of times) is that it is something between a bios error and a memory controller error. it's trying to do something that it just isn't good with, and is getting warmed up, which leads to further errors when you start poking at memory in a larger scale (loading a game, example, over just wandering through menus). You could have a look around that memory controller that was getting hot to see if it pans out to anything, but my guess is that is reactive to the problem and not the cause of it.
When you get this issue in a PC with explorer crashing and rebooting it is usually down to either corrupt OS, bad HDD or Bad Ram. I wonder if this could be similar with the PS5?

The first 3 minutes I was almost certain the story was going to end with you being scammed. So glad to be wrong.
I still think it's a RAM problem. You get similar problems on Windows when you overclock your RAM and it does not like the overclock.
Blind with the perfect TTS.. also this was such an unfortunate PS5 fix.. intermittent issues are the worst

did you confirm the serials of actual ps5 you sold? imagine if the guy sent you his faulty ps5 and now he got a working one and your replacement one
It looks like Joey put his own warranty sticker over the factory location. So, it should be the same PS5 unless the buyer was so careful as to remove the sticker in a non-destructive way and swap it to a different system.
Hmmm......does the PS have a watchdog circuit or chip? It seems to me that something is triggering/misinterpreting some writing load to the memory as the PS is frozen (ex. a chip that misinterprets the writing to memory as the APU being frozen), so it tries to unfreeze itself by refreshing. Maybe that's why you get some restart codes in the APU.
I know from microcontrollers that many have a watchdog functionality (usually when the microcontroller freezes or enters an endless loop in code), so it can unfreeze itself.
PS: I'm not a repair technician. I'm a programmer who likes to build things using microcontrollers, so I only wrote my opinion of what I have seen before on other embedded systems.

try another power supply.. i believe that the APU did not get the power it needs so that force the system to go to the safe mode .. and thats why acts strange..
i dont understand why people dont see the PS and xbox like a PC... is the same now days.. there is no difference.. except the exclusive games.
My first impression after seeing the reset was that it reminded me ALOT of when the graphics card driver in windows would crash, but catch itself and reset before a hard freeze/reset happens. Black screen (often the sound was still present) and then back to normal after a couple seconds - possibly a faulty gpu?
Does it crash if just left totally idle? Seemed to me that it only crashed when you started doing things (albeit minor) might've caused a spike in the clock speeds and took it into unstable territory. I've seen it a few times with PC GPUs, a very minor underclock stopped the crashing.
Gotta be the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. With the codes and changes that chip it must be an internal board short.
If that’s the case probably the only thing that can be done is removing all the ram and that controller and testing for continuity. But I don’t feel it would be worth it in the end.

So It allows download and install and play of games but NOT install from disc?? Or did I miss something?
My ps4 does this with my lg 4k tv when hdr is on, but only on games it goes black then comes back
My ps5 does it on a tcl 4k at times.. it's all 4k related, I had my xbox series x quit displaying right on the TV, made it all black with blue/red colors only going into games, I had to reset the tv to fixnthe issue, but far as ps5 goes it's update since fall of 2023 with a 3sec black screen.

Pretty sure Twitch had a policy change recently to allow that. Unless you mean how does he actually do it, like in a technical sense, which is down to how he has his OBS setup.

I'll bet it got tossed around pretty hard during shipping and that caused the new issue.

Joey reflow the APU on a BGA station 🚉 does your old shop have one? They used to work at. It’s going to be real common that it needs re-Ball or re-flow the APU down the line
Love the video always look forward to them and I've ehave learned a lot from you one thing I'd like to say is that the ram chips not all heating up may be due to it not being utilised until a game is loaded that need more ram but this is just speculation maybe try a reflow on the apu if you feel like it I believe you can definitely fix this one keep up the great work much love ❤ @joeydoestech
