This was already explained by 2 music lovers on you tube few years back. The quality of Rafi Sahab has come in the way of his career. Regarding Namesteji film OPN ensured that no record is available in the market for 1 years after the release of film. The music of Shikari though best was in style of OPN. The incident quoted by you has happened in the recording of film Sawan ki Ghata where one song was already recorded by Rafi Sahab and the disputed song was recorded in the voice of Mahendra Kapoor. I do not know whether Rafi Sahab should have promoted such composers like Laxmikant Pyarelal from Kalyanji Anandji and later Sonic Omi. Here the point to be noted is when Lata Didi used to praise Mehdi Hassan as a great singer before Rafi Sahab, he never used to like as we all know Rafi Sahab had come in film singing from 1946 whereas Mehadi Hassan started his career in 1956 and till then Rafi Sahab had so many songs at top of the chart including classical, love songs, high pitch songs and Ghazals etc whereas Mehedi Hassan was mainly limited to Ghazals and few film songs but not a variety like Rafi Sahab. Rafi Sahab should have changed his outlook while dealing with important composer. He has never done so with Naushad or S D Burman. OPN had only 2 musically hit film after this 1) Kismat 2) Pran Jaye per Vachan Na Jaye where he was out by Ashaji the same way he once treated Rafi Sahab. Ham Saya did come late but its songs were recorded earlier. Rafi Sahab should have known the repercussions of such dispute especially when there was fight between Rafi Sahab and Lata Didi over Royalty (This reason is given everywhere including Lata Didi but reality was totally different) and composers started replacing Lata Didi by Suman Kalyanpur for most of the duets proposed for Lata Rafi. Lata Didi realized this after some time and had to settle down through compromise. Otherwise she would have lost the market. Rafi Sahab should have consulted other legend composers like SJ, Naushad, SDB whether it is appropriate to promote such junior. Logically for songs of OPN it was OPN who used to pay money to Rafi Sahab and not GSK. It is wrong to junior of your composer without his consent. However in the whole process OPN too lost a big business as with Mahendra Kapoor songs had lot limitation in popularity. Had OPN continued with Rafi Sahab he could have been in the market for next 10 years with popular songs. OPN also had ego and was not as mature as Gurudutt as during the recording of the song Chaudvika Chand Rafi Sahab was very late and Gurudutt had to send car to his house to pick him but Rafi Sahab was busy in recording with SJ. Guru Dutt was very annoyed and asked Rafi Sahab why he was late? Rafi Sahab told him that some producer from Madras (Now Chennai) were to leave Mumbai immediately and wanted this song which was very important to them and it is a very good song. Guru asked him to sing and after hearing Guru said my song is still better than this but never removed Rafi Sahab as done by B R Chopra. The song sung for producer from Madras was Teri Pyari Pyari from Sasural. All need to be professional and mature.

Lata Mangeshkar's interpretation about Rafi Saab being jealous of Mehdi Hasan is utterly wrong and meant to demean Rafi Saab in public. Possibly this maybe her own impression because had this been true he wouldn't have encouraged or sang alongwith new budding singers like Udith Narayan or Shailendra Singh, etc. Mangeshkar sisters Lataji and Ashaji showed their utter dislike for Rafi Saab and have been defaming Rafi Saab in public platforms. Lataji herself prevented several new female singers from coming up and nipped their talents in the bud
