    8 gig formats at 7.2 tb you lose almost 1 terabyte formatting the drive wow that sucks

    • @coreyharrell9079
      @coreyharrell9079 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, how long has formatting an HDD been around? Since, like forever. How much did you think it would be, since all storage does not get formatted at 1000MB=1GB and 1000KB=1MB, whereas infact it is 1024MB/KB. Learn to use the real math.

    The drive manufactures measure the amount of space using base 10 (this is what gets advertised on the box), the Xbox (and Windows for that matter) format the drive using base 2, thus some amount of space is "lost" in the conversion, but not really. Its similar to KM versus miles - for example, 1KM is 0.621-ish miles. They are the same length, but one LOOKs smaller than the other. It's all in how they are counting the bits, similar to how different countries count units of distance. You haven't actually lost any space (you had asked someone to explain this in the video, and I felt like informing, so hopefully this was helpful). Pro tip: macOS (since version 10.6) will show a drive in the finder with its storage counted in base 10, but if you do a "diskutil list" in terminal, it will still show you that the OS is still counting the bits using base 2, its being counted differently in different parts of the OS. There are no agreed upon ways on how to count the bits, its whatever works best for the OS in question. Longer than it should have been, but hopefully I explained it well.

      Hi thanks for your question. Make sure to switch off the Xbox first, let it power down completely and the hard drive should go into a standby mode, the light will turn off after a few minutes. You can then in plug it :) but I leave mine plugged in the whole time. Next time you turn your Xbox on, the hard drive will turn on with it automatically.

      This is not an SSD - It uses the old style rotating media drives. You will notice this drive will not perform as well as the internal ssd drives found on the series S and X. If load times does not bother you too much it’s fine as you get hives amount of storage for a really good price. 8 TB SSD alternatives would cost way too much.
