It's kind of not fair. Most snares there have the CS head on them. You get the true nature of a drum with an ambassador. Any other drum head changes the fundamental sound of the drum.
Or a G1... You get my point. Single ply, no dots, no rings, no vents. Let's not turn it into a Remo vs. Evans battle. Both companies manufacture very good products.
AquaAnim you get the true nature from a snare with an ambassador/G1 head because an ambassador/G1 brings out the true overtones of the snare. However, they have used a controlled sound coated on some of the snares which doesn’t bring out the true overtones as the controlled sound includes a dot which affects the sound of the drum. They still all sound sick tho.
Blake Gowan There’s no magic to tuning snares. Tune the reso head to a 4th or a 5th above the batter and you’ll have a God tier tuning with any quality snare. A touch of moon gel or even a small piece of office paper taped to the head works for me in any setting.
Joe Rico Steve Maxwell tunes his batter head tighter than the bottom head, by about 30 percent and they all sound great. Maybe there is no right or wrong way...just personal taste.
Man, I dig his playing. There was this “Burning for Buddy” record back in the mid 90’s, and Matt’a track, “Beulah Witch,” was one of the more fun ones to listen to on that record.
Yes! I can’t believe Sorum hadn’t selected that 8 x 14 Broadcaster. (Through good headphones) it seems to have an incredible balance of meaty tone, crisp highs and sensitivity. What’s not to love about that drum!?!?
@@deaterk He seemed to prefer the phosphorus bronze snare for its powerful rimshot. He was clearly looking for a rock snare imo. But the Broadcaster is a more complete and balanced snare imo. Definitely my favorite.
Matt Sorum great rock drummer. He definitely has some swing to his playing. All the snares sounded great. I like brass best it’s always a great warm tone for a rock snare drum 🥁 sound ! 😎
It’s only money if you found what you’re looking for forget about the price. We’re not teenagers anymore they make a tremendous snare drum. They were tuned by an expert we should all be so lucky to have the opportunity that Matt just had. Good luck Matt I hope you find a band that’ll showcase your talent
That’s the Brooklyn steel 6.5. 2mm shell with 3mm hoops In another video someone plays it back to back with the bronze and the tone are almost identical. For $379 retail it’s an amazing value and one of my favorite gretsch drums. Highly recommended.
I wonder which the biggest snare seller is, for GRETSCH.. I think he’s gone for the most expensive.. This is about three times the price , of the GRETSCH USA CUSTOM BRONZE.
Hi Roy. So the Phosphorus Bronze snare is a 5mm shell while the regular Bronze is a 1mm shell. The Phosphorus Bronze is going to be heavier both in weight and in tonal quality. The regular Bronze snare will be a little bit more warm sounding. Thanks for the inquiry.
@@gretschdrumsusa which bell brass snare has the thickest shell? Basically I'm looking for that holy grail rock snare sound. (appetite for destruction, Nevermind snare sound)
Yes, it's true they were bought by Gretsch. I've heard that it's the best thing that's happened to them in recent times. Their QC in the last decade or so suffered heavily for some reason, and is now better than ever before. DW is doing their best not to fuck with the sound or mojo in the Gretsch name too, just lending that helpful boost that a powerhouse like them can afford.
I just heard its a distribution deal...whatever that means. But Gretsch are still manufactured by the same people. John Good has helped Gretsch with finding exotic woods as well, just like he does for DW.
I want a video by the guy who tuned these snares. He is a God.

Dan Katz whos says you get the true nature with an Ambassador, and what reasoning do you have for stating that?

My hero sir~~! You look younger than you did 20 years ago
He is known to use the Bell Brass...it's like which other one do you like?
Awesome dude and drummer!
Gretsch’s best sounding metal snare..
Not cheap...but you would only need one snare in your collection, so may be worth it.

I've been playing the same COB Gretsch 6.5" X 14" since 1987. I'm gonna be buried with it when I die.
THIS is the real Matt Sorum.
amazin' snare sounds, amazin' rock and roll player!!!
Matt's one of the greats, that's for sure.
Dig MAtt's snare touch.
Solid steel win here...
Nice choice... there are so few opportunities to test/play/hear drums and cymbals anymore... Guitar Center? Please.
This is marketing genius!
Gretsch always has the best drums
Matt, please some drum classes to Frank, please? but if you return that will be cooler
lol yeah frank was bad a few years ago. He's slightly improved in 2021 but still not a great fit.
Bronze has a great sound..one of the best, but very expensive.
MATT!!!
I liked the bell brass!
Can i please ask what were the hi hats used in this video ? Thank you in advance
if i could have the same set up >> i would 100% buy 2 or more snares >>. and i also know the Phosphorus is $1800+++ give or take
cool
what the fuck was that, that happened at 2:51?Just magnificent!
Σταύρος Κωσταςς paradiddles my man. RlrrLrll. Just split up between the snare & hi hats.
Nicholas Santangelo thanks a lot!
Simple paradiddles between the hi hat and snare, just really fast.
They are one of his chops, uses them a lot. Look at some of his solos from GnR days you see them loads
What about my Pearl Export select wood snare ?
2:57 HEEH HEEH HEEH! 😂
What is the drum to the left of center? He plays it briefly at 1:48 that thing sounds like it’d rip your head off

The normal Gretsch bronze is less expensive and personally, I prefer it.

Always been a Sorum fan but he needs to get some more licks. He's been doing that same lick since the Illusions tour.

I would like to know if it's true that Gretsch was absorbed by DW. Is there anybody out there who has facts that can back the claim that this is true?
Not sure that "absorbed" is the correct word. DW purchased Gretsch in 2016 - www.dwdrums.com/info/newsroom.asp?n=nwsDWbuysBrandsFromFender
