Great ole song! I saw this same line up back when they first got together in a little club in North Hollywood. Place was packed with guitar players and lots of fans. What a night...He did a great version of "Start It Up"
Saw Robben last night at a mini-concert in Tampa, FL , still making some beautiful sounds from that Tele, just amazing how he gets the best tones, deliberate notes, right on the money! I'm inspired, um, gotta go practice......
That's Roscoe Beck on bass, and Tom Brechtlein on drums, the original Blue Line line up. Listen to that Tele SING, man! Robben has the MOST awesome tone EVER.
My, my, my baby, you're my cup of tea My, my, my I'm loving what you do to me You got a motor like a brand new car So start it up for me Yes, yes, yes something in your sexy ways Yes, yes, yes gonna love you all of my days You got a motor like a brand new car So start it up for me Start it up, start it up you make me feel like romancin' Start it up, start it up you make me feel like dancin' You got a motor like a brand new car So start it up for me The way you move such a finely tuned machine mmm, Such a solid groove the best I've ever seen
The original Blue Line (as shown here) is my fav. Roscoe Beck is a sensational bassist. RF plays some great blues. My fav is Bad Luck Blues an old Magic Sam song.
Thanks Robben. It took me forever to find this one. I'm a musician and I was at an open Blues Jam and I heard this but not nowhere's as good as your version!
Were u in a JAZZ clinic at the university in Salt lake city, utah in1968? My son Bobby Montoya was there and won the Benny GOODMEN TROPY FOR GUITAR. HE PASSED 8 YRS AGO DUE TO DIABETIC COMPLICATIONS. A little can be seem onu tube.
Not many comments on this little video , but who cares. Ford for freakin sure "Has It"!! I love the crazy guitar at the end of "Help the Poor". It's like a...Tamed animal gone Wild ,,,or something. Great band there , tight and full of spirit.
One of the comments on Robben's "Worried Life Blues" video said it best. He dresses like Zorro on gay night. I really don't give a shit what he wears, because if you close your eyes, its even better.
I love the sound of the Telecaster. Something I am looking for ... This video shows everything I like, just marvelous. Has anyone the complete guitar tabs of this song?.
@STORYTASTIC listen to robben's authorized bootleg album, it was recorded live at yoshi's with almost no equipment, and you'll see what sopraltofilms means by effortless. you can also find the best version (in my opinion) of this song as well.
he is an awesome player, but what the shit is he wearing? he looks like the saleslady at an 80s department store. i guess he can wear whatever he wants though
Every time I hear Robbin I'm continually reminded of what a bad ass guitarit he is.
Saw this line up a few times in the 90's. Blew me away, probably the best 3 piece I've ever seen.
What a sexy man....Robben's voice and guitar playing are awesome....I have been listening to him for year's and so enjoy his music!!!
The solo on this blues is why I started playing guitar. From Argentina ! ;)
Damn, I love this guy. He is a wellspring of guitar knowledge. I am happy just to cop a lick from him every now-and-then.
It's not about you
The best. What a talent. For those who were not around then, the clothes were subtle. Listen and watch those hands.

@rajuas :D
Oh dear @ 2:02 the drummer speeds up, fatal flaw of every drummer, DON'T LISTEN TO THE GUITAR! you are the beat NOT the guitar.
a flat 9, an F. you can see it as a descending chromatism to the E, root.
maybe a broken string he's getting rid of
he is an awesome player, but what the shit is he wearing? he looks like the saleslady at an 80s department store. i guess he can wear whatever he wants though
