  • The 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross isn't what you'd expect considering Mitsubishi's history and the Eclipse that became so popular. They geared this towards the thriving CUV market and added several features...but still attempted to be sporty, although it isn't sporty by any stretch. For the price this Eclipse Cross SEL S-AWC is over $32k and that seems pretty steep for what you get. Overall, this 2020 Eclipse Cross is adequate, but not good enough to steal many buyers from other mainstream brands in the compact or even subcompact cuv/suv class. Leave your thoughts below!

    I bought a “used” 2018 a couple months ago with around 5k miles for only $18K that’s an SE trim with 4wd. I love my car so far. The stock tires were crappy so I switched them out with a lot better tires and it made the handling better. Overall, I love this car, the engine is peppy, it has a nice tall ride, it’s a beast in the snow and I think it is gorgeous! It’s unique as well compared to most cars that all look generally the same.

    I bought a 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SE shortly after they first came out. The styling is what caught my eye. I saw one in a parking lot and went closer to examine it to find out what it was. Mine is that diamond red with extra chrome garnishments and I absolutely love the vehicle. The window sticker on my vehicle showed $28,900. but I got them down to $23,500. So while your review quoted the list prices, which sound kind of pricey for what you are getting, a good negotiator can do much better. And just for the record while the back end may kind of resemble the Pontiac Aztek, the side and front styling couldn't be more different. So all in all I think the ride and styling are what sold me on the vehicle.....then I just had to get them down to the price I was happy with

    I've had my 2022 Eclipse Cross SEL w/touring package for over 2 years now and just love the vehicle. Mine is the FWD and not AWD version, and gets 32 to 33 mpg on long distance highway drives when eco mode is on while using cruise control. I recently went on a road trip through some 2 lane backroads (1 lane each direction), and was able to easily accelerate past other vehicles (eco mode off and stability/braking controls off). I do also have a 4th gen eclipse with the v6 engine, and while the 2022 eclipse cross does not have that same power of the 4th gen coupe, it does have decent pep, and the 2022 is WAY more refined than my 4th gen. The 2022 has nicer seating, better visibility, better maneuverability, a smoother & quieter ride, maps are built into the car, the BI-LED headlights are fantastic, plus has a ton of other features that the 4th gen coupe doesn't have. I do enjoy driving my 4th gen eclipse and the 2022 eclipse cross.

    I own a 2wd with manual transmission. The exterior got me because i dont like the cars you see on every corner. Mine trim level is like between entry and mid level. The 163ps engine is great. The handling is still good with 16" alloys and sh*tty tyres thanks to the high quality suspensions and strut bars. Simply, when you hit the gas you enjoy. But still some investment on wheels like 18" wheels and uhp tyres is needed. After that i will consider changing the springs as well.

    We bought the top of the line 2WD (called Exceed in Australia) and love it. It's the perfect size for our small family of 3. We drive from our semi-rural neighbourhood into the city 5 days a week and some freeway driving on weekends. The trim levels and design were what attracted us to the Eclipse Cross. I personally love the rear tail light/ split window. We've been super impressed with performance and handling though it can get thirsty (we rarely use eco mode) . The CVT is better than most (sounds like old school auto) which is good considering there's no manual option for this trim level. We would consider a second one in the future.

      The more hp & torque you put on the JATCO CVT8 the more stress it has to deal with shortening its lifespan. That's why all Mitsu models are considered underpowered including my 2014 Mirage at only 74 hp and torque. Mitsu engineers would rather you get 200k miles out of your CVT than a bump in speed and power. Nissan went the opposite direction with the exact same CVT and have some serious reliability issues.

    Never seen one on the roads anywhere yet. I’m thinking it’s not selling or people who actually bought it not trying to be seen in this.
    I don’t think they should’ve called this the eclipse either. Just what the bloody hell going on with Mitsubishi and why they went this route with it? Mitsubishi was a brand that a lot of people loved and respected especially from the days of the 3000gt, original real eclipse and other gens before it got turned into such a trashy sad attempt of an suv, and the awesome lancer evo.
    They just did away with all the greatness. Mitsubishi now is just...bleh now.

    Mitsubishi is sad. Why can’t they be the company they used to be!?! This I guess makes sense for someone who needs a point A to point B SUV, but it should come at a $25,000 price point, loaded, not $32,000 +. At the price, you’re talking Forester Limited. That’s going get you more room, more capabilities, better comfort, probably better mpg, better quality, more safety tech, and a much better resale value. It seems that Mitsubishi has taken off where Suzuki left off selling cars because they will finance pretty much anyone. That being said, the overall design isn’t bad (although they could have done better with the rear end). The interior could use more pizzazz especially for the money. They have seemed to put a lot of features in there, but some odd omissions and cost saving are definitely there. Probably not going to be a big success story for Mitsubishi. Great review as usually though!

      @PrimeAutotainment  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You said it well! This vehicle puzzles me. They tried to make it interesting...but it’s definitely not lol. Like you said I’d much rather go for the Forester for the money they are asking. I honestly rarely ever see one of these on the road. Thanks for stopping by as always!

      Prime Autotainment Me neither. I’ve only seen a few. Although our local Mitsubishi dealer got shut down due to fraud. Lol. The depreciation alone is enough to avoid them. I watched a 2018 Outlander Sport SEL with leather and 24,000 miles on it sell for $12,000 at auction yesterday. That’s at least over half off from what it cost new.

      Subaru reliability is a joke to me. My old 2004 H6 3.0 cost me thousands to keep it running. Bad crankshaft sensor, burned oil, failed seat motor, expensive tire replacements, outrageous prices for parts, headlights going out every 6 months, shitty mpg, and I only had 144k miles on it. I downgraded, got a Mitsubishi Mirage and couldnt be happier. Cut my fuel costs in half, cheap to maintain, cheap to own, cheap to insure, great simple little car.

      Prime Autotainment I own a brand new 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse cross LE S-AWC. I get the advertised city mpg, but highway I’ve gotten over 40+ mpg. The CVT is faster at “shifting” than most people. I got quicker from 0-60 with it in auto than I could even do in manual.
      The car really shines, when you take it out of eco mode, and give it a go, it will stay in the “gears” a hair longer and it keeps that little turbo right in the sweet zone.
      Oh and the brightness adjustment next to the hud control is for the hud brightness. The interior dash lights are dimmed or brightened with the push button at the right side of the instrument cluster.
      Now I’m not here to bash your review, I just would like to see someone read the owners manual before they do a review and get everything correct. It even tells you how to get the most out of the engine and CVT.
      It even states that in hot weather that it’s recommended to run premium fuel. I had a week in the 90’s and filled up with 93 octane and power and torque is really good. Have to remember this vehicle you can get fitted with a towing package.

    • @cowboy10731
      @cowboy10731 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Prime Autotainment now as far as hp and torque numbers I’m still researching the specs to programs into my Torque app and comparing to Dashcommand app which initially gave me hp numbers of over 230hp on a rolling start off the line.

    Something tells me Mistubishi is about to head the way of Suzuki. IMO, the brand has been going down hill slowly since the cancellation of the Lancer and Galant. I can appreciate where they were trying to go with this vehicle, but a pretty package won't last long when the crap inside is exposed, e.g; lack luster power, simi-smart keyless entry and useless paddles on a CVT trans. Definitely wouldn't get a second luck from me. Nice review as always though. P.S. I just bought the '19 Rav4 Ltd.

      It's awesome, I got the AWD Trim, it's missing a few extras, i.e., the Pano sunroof and JBL sound system, but tbh, you really don't need those things, unless you really want them. The standard six really packs a big enough punch. As for the AWD, I was aprehensive, but it's really not bad, I'm getting the same MPG I was getting with the FWD I traded. Only bummer is, I found out I have a nail in my tire today, so I have to get that fixed, will probably be a new tire, but I have road hazard coverage, thankfully!
