The 67i come with world TopoActive maps but not all are preloaded onto the device but they are available for free with the purchase of the device. If you want more detail than the topoactive maps provide you need to buy the outdoor plus subscription to pick areas that you want more detail for.
Hey Rick, thanks for doing the footwork on so many Garmin devices and software. I have learned SO much from your videos. Quick question on Outdoor+ maps. Are the offline maps available for download simply a map to look at if offline, or do they have any other function? Mini2, Explore android & Explore web is my setup. Thanks man!
Thanks for the thumbs up. I've been testing so many satellite communicators lately that I have not used my Outdoor Maps+ in six months. I would like to freshen up a little and maybe even call Garmin before I answer your question. I'll leave my "improved" answer for you here on Monday, and I may even make a video about it. Rick
@@outdooremergencytech Thank you Sir! I think a video would be good for allot of users. The newest version of the Explore app has left allot of people with allot of questions, especially with Outdoor Maps+. Some people do not like it and have had issues that have even made them revert back to the previous version of the app. I have had no issues with the combination and after giving it a chance, I really like it.
Thanks for the heads up. I will make a video of the results after talking with Garmin on Monday, but I'll report what I find back here sometime on Monday. Rick
Another great video! Thanks Rick! I plan to use my new 67i for hiking around New England, Mostly in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Is the standard 67i maps that it came with sufficient or do I need to consider the Outdoor map subscription? Thank you!
The maps that come with it will cover all of the U.S. and maybe North America. You only need the Outdoor Maps if you want additional information, such as hunting units or public/private land boundaries. Personally, after using the Outdoor Maps, I think it's worth the money as I get a lot more information, but you don't need it. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
I now have a garmin 67, I have a large private land boundary as a google Earth kml/kmz file. I am trying to load that file onto my 67, is that possible? Any tips or suggestions would be great.
I uploaded a video last month covering exactly this issue. It was about someone who wanted to download a course on a hike to the Everest Base Camp. Checkout the video below. th-cam.com/video/5u10LXSMhy0/w-d-xo.html Let me know if you still have questions after watching this. Rick
That's a great question but because I already have the Outdoor Maps+ subscription, I'm not sure how to answer that as I would have to remove the Outdoor Maps+ to confirm this. My guess is that it's already there as the Outdoor Maps+ does not give you more trails, it only gives additional information like hunting units and public / private land boundaries. I think a call to Garmin would answer this one for you. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
I’m new to the Garmin so waiting to hear. I went to the explore app and searched Long Trail VT and it shows the trail, wouldn’t you just set your course?
Yes, the 66i, 67i, Montana 700i, and 750i all have Micro SD card slots. I had to use it on my 67i this week when downloading the LakeVu map. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
I've imported and exported KMZ files using the Explore.Garmin Map page and they synced to my inReach devices and that works well, but I have very little experience with Basecamp at this time. I recently bought the Montana 750i and plan on using Basecamp with that, but I don't know much about it yet. Rick
I just got outdoor maps +. Is there anyway to download over 750 mb at a time? Really annoying trying to download maps unless you have a ton of layers turned off. Can only do very small areas at a time.
Thanks for the informative video I just purchased the same unit 67i in Australia and its my first Garmin unit so the all thing is new to me Few questions if you'll be kind to help with?: 1. The annual fee subscription is also a contract for $20 x 12 months which must be paid even if one cancel subscription or do you mean the monthly option contract with higher annual fee? 2. Once I download the maps do I always need the phone next to the Garmin unit? 3. If I cancel subscription do the maps stay on my Garmin unit? Thanks
Great questions. I'll do my best to answer them. 1. There is an annual fee of $34.95 in the U.S. for the Freedom plan or Monthly Plan that is paid one time each year. Your amounts may differ than ours. There are two ways to save money with the subscription plans. First, you can pay monthly, without an annual contact and with this, you can still change from the Safety to the Recreation and Expedition plan and back, each 30 day period, or you can suspend your account for the months you don't use it, then re-activate your subscription for the months you need it. Second, you can go with the annual plan and switch back and forth between the Safety, Recreation, and Expedition plan, so on the months you will not be out, you can have it on the less expensive Safety Subscription then switch over to the Recreation or Expedition Subscription when you want more tracks and messages. 2. You can download the maps on the 67i, and also on the Explore app and use them separately. You don't need to have the 67i synced to the Explore App to have or maintain access to those maps. 3. You will still have the maps if you cancel or suspend your subscription, but you won't be able to use SOS, message or get weather without the subscription. I would either go with the monthly plan, without an annual subscription and "suspend" your account when you don't need it, rather than cancelling the subscription. If you go with the annual plan, than just switch back and forth between subscriptions to save money when you don't need it. I hope this helps. Don't hesitate to ask additional questions or ask for clarification. Rick
