    Thanks for the thorough explanation and tutorial, Josh. I just ordered the Stick 500. That is a good point about the yellow color; it will suit my needs. Keep up the great work. You're very much appreciated by all hams at all levels. 73 de AK3B.

    I have the Stick Pro … great analyzer. Somewhat disappointed that it doesn’t get to 1.2 ghz. Correct me if that’s not correct. But my Mini 1300 does so that’s still in my bag. The BT feature of the Stick line allows feedpoint impedance sweeps at the antenna while it’s in the air at the intended height and without the coax in the middle. Great products!

    Thanks for the video. Volume is much better here than on a few others. Although there was still some whisper when telling about the RX feature. I sure would have enjoyed hearing that.
    I'll be hunting more of your videos. Thanks again.

      @@HamRadioCrashCourse Thanks for the information about the compressor. I usually talk real loud if I get farther from my consumer grade camcorder.
      I've heard some videos that were recorded so loud they sound too loud even if I decrease my computer volume almost off. I think they were turned so high they got distorted.
      I'm on the verge of ordering either the Stick (a step down from the 1000) or the MFJ 259D. I'm leaning more toward the Stick.
      Several years ago I used an MFJ for installing mostly mobile antennas in PU trucks and 18 wheelers. I broke it. lol
      I bought second one and hid it from myself while distracted by a career in construction. It would take days to find it suspect. 73

    Josh, did you have to calibrate either the PRO, or X PRO? Also would it be possible to create a video on how to do that? I have the PRO, it is my go to tuner, but I wonder sometimes if it is giving me accurate data. Thanks for all you do, and hope your day goes well. Thanks for pointing out how to find your resonance point, which may be part of the equation for the efficiency. But I don’t really know with any confidence how to determine how much radiation resistance and ground losses I’m seeing on an antenna, to get a sense for how much power is actually getting out into the ether (as opposed to getting lost as heat in the air or the ground). Any tips there?

    • @HamRadioCrashCourse
      @HamRadioCrashCourse ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of that is going to be line loss via the coax. It’s part of the system. Remember at the end of the day, resistance should be at or close to 50 ohms. All the other stuff is going to be efficiency and effectiveness in position or build.

    I got the Stick 500… a stick that goes to 1GHz isn’t that needed for me as there aren’t any amateur bands between 500MHz and 1GHz in VK.
    Love the type N though. A Stick to 1300 MHz would be fantastic. Great video Josh

    Will this work for scanner antennas ? Is there a way to 'test' RX only antennas?

    • @lmaoroflcopter
      @lmaoroflcopter ปีที่แล้ว

      Resonance is resonance. It's an expensive tool for a scanner enthusiast as it is not necessary at all, but it'll tell you if your antenna is resonant for a particular frequency.

    • @HamRadioCrashCourse
      @HamRadioCrashCourse ปีที่แล้ว

      Easier to use and read in the field. Can tether to phone. Don’t get me wrong. I completely support people owning a NanoVNA too. It’s also an acceptable alternative to a Stick.

    1000mhz not very usable, since you go past 70cm at least include 23cm/1.2GHz !
    I have the old AA-600, very nice up to 70cm, but 600mhz is rather useless for hamming.

    • @davidmayes1912
      @davidmayes1912 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm confused about this as well. There are some radios out there with 23cm/1.2GHz, but seemingly very few with 33cm/900MHz. Seems like consumers would mostly opt for the standard Stick Pro covering 70cm, or wait for the "Stick Pro X 1200" to come out some day. I love my RigExpert Stick, but not sure why this model was spec'd out such as it was. Great walkthrough video though - thumbs up!

      @Factory400 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you play in the 1Ghz world, this is cheap.
      It's hardware architecture appears to be far better than something like nanoVNA, dedicated software for antenna/radio work, an app, etc.
      The target user is definitely on the higher end of the hobby. For people that hang out in the HF bands....this would be wasted. Get into the high side of UHF.....this is perfect.
