    Way to go BirdDogg, one beautiful confederate buckle! Your story reminds me of my favorite breast plate that I dug literally listening to the pulses of an invisible fence. The breast plate was the shallowest plate I ever dug, about three inches, but it laid within an inch of the invisible fence and let out that long beep as you described! Got to love the stuff that drives other hunters crazy! HH and thanks for the story!

      Thanks Erle, funny though, now I hit every dang fence I see.. Usually strike out, but the times you hit near the fence, it is usually good!

    Great advice! I have discovered a few spots in local city parks where I was just wandering around and found cool old things in the least likely places. My best find, just two days ago, was a three ringer Confederate Minie ball in a local park near the Mississippi River up here in Minneapolis. I found it on the fringes where I wasn't inclined to go. But something led me there as I was running out of time and was determined to find something good. A few feet away I discovered my oldest Indian head cent from 1873 in spectacular condition. I went back today and spent four hours hunting the same area. I only found some old square nails and a piece of an old oil lamp...oh yeah, lots of trash. Still had fun doing what I love in the great outdoors on a beautiful day. Thanks for your Daily logs. I've been following them and appreciate the advice and the great stories.

      Sounds like you are in the right type of area, and digging all the right signals, keep it up and your coil will pass over a real good one soon!

    great buckle...thanks for the valuable info on hunting near electric fences...i haven't had to deal with them yet,but i have encountered interference from power lines

    Sweet find. At one of the sites I've been working this summer I pulled an old token and a Tombac button from under an electric fence. I can tune the dense out with the CTX so there is no problem. Great find buddy.

    Chris, what was the most surprising, or maybe unexpected, item you've dug? Could be the item itself, or the context of where or when you dug it. You were excited to get your first creek artillery shell, but that's what you were looking for, so not what I'm asking about. What really made you stop and say, "WHOA!"?Great tip about where to hunt. It does work. Nice reward for your perseverance.

    Way to hang in there BirdDogg, great video. Do you have an interesting story or find where you found something really cool after re-checking a hole after finding a piece of trash. I know I've found some good stuff in other people's old holes, or that could be a good story also. Thanks

    • @BirdDogg
      @BirdDogg  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jeremy, I will think on it and see if I can come up with a good one I remember.

      Ok, just trying to think of some ideas for you. Not sure if you have put it in a video (I haven't got a chance to watch them all), but I would love to see you talk about how you got the nick name, be even cooler if it's tied to detecting some way. Thanks

      Jeremy Holaday Hey now, that's good, and it is detecting related.. Thanks!

    Schweet buckle. I'll tell ya whut, we've all had those days when nothing goes right. (heavy flow day ?) If you don't mind why not do a short vidio on your favorite hunt with your dad. (kinda hard to pin down but, what a challenge.)

    • @BirdDogg
      @BirdDogg  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hehe, those days happen. I will think on that favorite hunt, but if I recall I only found one relic that day, my first CW relic though... Might be good fodder, i'll see what I can do.

    how about one teaching that we should all be a river janitor.

    • @BirdDogg
      @BirdDogg  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually spend about 25-30 days a year doing nothing but cleaning up the rivers around here. As someone who lives on the river I take it pretty seriously. With that said, a man can not carry out every scrap of trash he sees while out relic hunting/adventuring or he would not be out relic hunting/adventuring, he would be out cleaning up trash. Two separate activities, for two separate times. While the two may coincide at times(I take out trash that is manageable while relic hunting) I will not really compromise one for the other(If I am out on a day of cleaning the river up, I don't dilly dally chasing old bottles or relics, I clean up trash. Likewise, If I am relic hunting, I am not going to chase every tire/refrigerator/dead horse/beer can I see, I am relic hunting.
      I think a better conversation would be that we should all be more conscious of our actions with waste, recyclables and trash, and that we should call out people and corporations who are not. Round all those folks up who pollute and make them the river janitors.

    • @BirdDogg
      @BirdDogg  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe river advocates/defenders would be more effective.
