This should have been the only race worth watching on the day, and the start met those expectations. I love seeing the limit of design and performance, but if this type of thing becomes the norm, count me out. The visceral experience for us normal sailors is all but extinguished. The awe of it all is doing a heavy lift, which comes crashing down to the surface when a race is finished barely after it started due to a bad electrical connection. Surely the AC can learn from other top-tier sailing fleets like the IMOCA class, where they’ve figured out designing for the human element rather than total performance makes a boat faster and more interesting to watch.
I'm a little shocked they haven't built in double or triple redundancy in the electronic systems. Everything should still work when one system goes down.
Makes it heavier with more points of failure though. It's a balancing act. You gotta remember these boats are cutting edge, just like vendee globe, part of the game is building the boats. Having an older more reliable boat vs a newer more experimental but maybe faster boat.
I don’t buy the ‘heavier’ argument. The US has cyclors that weigh 95kg. That is absolutely unnecessary when looking for someone to produce the power they need. More complexity, sure, there is a balancing act there.
First kiwi tack on top of luna rossa show how great kiwis boat are to tack on opposite even only under 30 meters in front. They not loose mutch speed and meters at a tack,to be scared opposite overtaking then? Kiwis having at start an all over good yacht 🙏 improofing till end.
SUCKY TELEVISION DIRECTORY. 1) you can never understand what's happening, they send tight shots, onboard and useless shots of the crews that are of no use. 2) the speeds of the boats are shown only a few times and it is not clear whether they are maximum speeds (useless) or VMG
Go back to boats actually sailed and controlled by the crew and this kind of issue goes away. I'd like to see them race boats with no computers, no electronics, no laser range finders, no radios... Make it about boat design and crew performance. That said, I love these boats, just not for the America's Cup. I just don't think they make for interesting match racing.
lolol, wtf. reminds me of muppets in space. they need to race this in 80ft ultra light weight, ultra powerful, fixed keel monohulls. you know, 'real' boats.
windows had to update on the Italian boat during the race.:)
My old Alfa Romeo does that

can the kiwi commentator stop mocking the italian language, it's the americas cup not panto
Should be in N.Z.

Yeah kinda kills the sport when its a "computer" or "hydraulic" failure.

Where are the full replays?
The first two were up briefly then taken down. I’m guessing they aren’t available in our countries. Trying to get people to get ESPN+
Good job Taihoro 👏

“Systems failure” 😂
Just unplug it and plug in again
ETNZ driving a Toyota never break down. Luna Rossa driving a Fiat electronics always break down when you need them. Could be Patriot they face

Found it all a bit boring to tell the truth.
Way to complex

Speed and sexy sells. Bottom line
Agreed. The Kiwi's have ruined the Cup. What a total yawner this series is.
Go watch the old Americas cup. Plenty of slow ass boats racing all over the world now
@@Trajectionable😂😂 rather see these than the slow old boats

Prada looked strong until they suddenly lost the boat.....out of nowhere. Rigged
Exactly! They are some old foxes who don't want to give references to kiwis.

They are useless! Italy are a joke.
You just need to worry about finishing a race you have Fiat electronics
