Hi, how are you, I’m Sophie, 24 from the uk, I’ve been thinking about starting modelling for awhile now, even tho I’m only 5ft2 I really enjoy taking photos of myself (that probably sounds weird lol)but I’ve been watching a lot of modelling videos saying that you have to wear you hair natural for castings and when you meet with an agency, is that something you’d recommend bc when I used to be at school people made fun of my natural hair and my family still makes fun of it, so it’s kinda an insecurity of mine, so I’m just not sure if modelling agencies would sign me if they saw my natural hair (it’s naturally quite frizzy unless it’s styled with heat tools), thank you

Hi Sophie...I am sorry that people at school and those in your life are too immature to treat you with kindness. Most models have unique traits that cause them to be loved my a modeling agency. So don't let your hair stop you from following your goal. Even if it doesn't turn out to be a full time job, it could still be a fun part-time for you one day.

Also, it takes most models submitting to tons of agencies before they get signed. It's VERY NORMAL to get rejected by agencies until you find a good agency for you.

Sophie, whatever those ding dongs on facebook/instagram, at school be saying to you and the people who want to live your life through you, as a professional photographer that works with real models like her that actually get PAID and end up on prints and advertisements... IGNORE THEM, you were given just a life sample how the modeling industry gets. Absolute first thing is confidence, I will see that all over the photos, a lot of pro-industry photographers don't have time to build confidence on the set, if you can't bring it, they will call it over so from this point, stop allowing haters into your mind ok?
2. Look at the commercials on tv or youtube 2023 commercials, you have Roku and stuff right? Look at some of the movies from today, Your frizz is wanted! Frizzy, nappy, big, all out, full... it's NATURAL right? Then you go to your calls and you bring it!
3. Stop letting facebook camera shooters take random pictures of you and get with a real photographer who specializes in shooting models and though who want to be models like you so you get a REALISTIC AND PROFESSIONAL portfolio.
...(listen to everything she mentioned in this video and her comment. Stop comparing school kids to grown real life things I know schools can really put a hit on someone for years but when you have someone like me and her by your side, all that goes away. Don't let anymore random people and your past win, this year YOU WILL WIN 🙂

Is makeup permitted or good practice?

For open calls they want no makeup. Some agencies will give u a wet wipe to clean your face to make sure you aren’t lying about your face makeup. But if you put concealer on a few blemishes that’s fine
