Rewilding a Meadow. A cinematic film celebrating the biodiversity supported by a small wild meadow.

- June and July are the months that are most active in the meadow. The buttercups are nearly over but the grasses are at their absolute best. The different varieties create the most amazing textures and in the breeze the movement of all the different seed heads produces a mesmerising performance. Insects thrive in the long grasses and on the different flowers around the field margins, birds and mammals populate the trees and overgrown hedgerows each depending another to survive.
Observing the meadow throughout the year I become acutely aware of the often minute interactions between all creatures and plants, the interactions are endless and all are vital to a natural balance.
Towards the end of July we cut the grass for hay which allows seeds to fall and germinate. Some ares are left uncut and it's interesting to see how differently these develop, the grasses grow in a more "tufty" fashion, straight away trees begin to appear and invasive hedgerow plants such as blackthorn take advantage of the uncut areas, quickly forming dense thickets.
Anyway, I could waffle on for ages about this but I don't want to bore you!

Oh your video again ❣
Thanks !!
So beautiful! Beautifully composed. The clouds of insects, aren't they amazing. Is it cow parsley (Anthriscus) ... and ending with the meadowsweet, so special. You have made a poem, for the meadow. Thank you ♥♥♥
Thanks Barbera, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yes it’s reassuring to see so many insects, especially as this year has been particularly bad for them!
I think it’s Hog Weed (not the giant variety), an old man I used to know in Shropshire called it pig parsley, I think this is the Latin name for it (according to the wildlife trust) Heracleum sphondylium.
That’s a lovely thought, a poem for the meadow!
Thanks again
@@SleepBeneathTheBoughs Of course, I suppose the cow parsley has finished - I have just watched (again) your film from May. I did not know there were other varieties of hogweed. So was I wrong with the Filipendula too ;-). Lovely videos, persevere - Perseverantia. Kindest regards.
@@barbarathomas2561 No you were right with the meadowsweet!
I’m glad you’re enjoying them.
I’ve got a nice video of Arley Hall gardens to post next, the most spectacular herbaceous borders!
Have a great day.
