It is the start of #golf #season in #canada and I recorded my first outdoor round of 2024 at Crosswinds Golf & Country Club. Can a few simple strategies help me to break 80 already?
Just to make you envious, I live in Tasmania Australia, an island at the very bottom of Australia which is a base for the South Pole. It’s never too cold or too hot which allows me to golf every month of the year. We have many world award winning golf courses that makes me think I live in golf paradise. Best regards.
Haha I live in Western Australia and it's similar in that there is no off season, golf all year round. The only tough days are those 40C /100f+ days in summer where it's a bit too toasty. Love the breakdown of your round, you've got a good voice for narrating as well. Nice 👍
Love the tip on pre-shot routine, I’ve also found that course management and not trying to play the hero shot every shot but playing the smarter one has saved me a lot of lost golf balls and a good amount of frustration on the course!
Thanks! I don’t have the greatest swing or game, but I know my approach to the game gives me the best chance at success most rounds and hoping that I can help a few people think about their own game by sharing. 🤙
Awesome! It’s all about making the game more fun for yourself at whatever skill level you (or the buddy) may be. I know all rounds won’t feel this clean, but it’s definitely nice to start this way. If you keep watching, you’ll see some disasters from me for sure. 😅
Just came across your video and recognized the name of the golf course looked it up that course is in Burlington ontario 30 mins from my house always wanted to play there
Awesome! You should definitely check it out. It’s one of my favourite courses in the GTA because it’s challenging but also forgiving (on most of the holes) of some errant shots….as you can tell from this video 😅
Thank you and glad it can help! I’ll have my next round uploaded today or tomorrow (hotel wifi pending 😅) and it was certainly a round with more struggles to learn from. Good luck this season 👊
this is such a great example of how to look at a round, i’m personally trying to stop myself from thinking i have to save par on mis-hits, just play for bogey🎉😂
Love it! It’s definitely one of the best ways for us average folks to keep around fun. Pars will come if you’re willing to take your medicine when they won’t. 👊😁
Much appreciated! Everyone has to start somewhere tho. Just hoping to share some of my progress this golf season and hopefully help out some other average golfers along the way. ✌️
Thanks, it’s nice to have a local viewer who knows the course! Hopefully I get back there at least one more time to break that 80 barrier. Just uploaded my Copetown on Saturday too, which is another nice course in Ontario ✌️
For years I spent my time on the course with the mindset that I had to be aggressive like the pros. Turns out that was what killed me. First time I went out and played this year: I used my 3 iron off of almost every tee I always aimed at the front of the green and clubbed down. I usually had a small chip to get on and get within a reasonable distance to the hole. Putting needs some work, but I managed to post an 84 after not playing for almost a year!
That’s awesome to hear! Part of the reason I’m making some videos now is that I think more exposure needs to be made about simplifying golf for the purpose of joy and not seeking record scores. Do the little things and your score will lower naturally and at a pace that still feels fun and challenging. I’m curious how you manage with the attempt to club down and aim at the front of the green because I’m trying to club up more this year since I so often miss short. Keep me in the loop and good luck! ✌️
@@ParawayGolf Oh, I intentionally club down with the expectation that I miss short. I feel like that there’s a higher margin for error when I play that way. I feel extremely comfortable with my 7 and 8 iron which I usually all I need to get within chipping distance. My chip is almost always with my pitching wedge. I stand it up straight and give it a putting like motion.
I seem to break 80 easily early every season. Frequently. Then after a month or 2 my shanks come back out of the blue and I feel like quitting golf. Then the cycle repeats. Absolutely hate this game right now
🙂 Thanks! Adding some to my latest round (should be uploaded Sunday) over next few days and you might enjoy that then. I have to be quite sarcastic with myself while trying to keep my vibes positive in the rain. 😅
I am using The Grint this year and so far have been quite pleased. It’s a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to input your score but I find it is quite accurate, it allows you to make some cool scorecards for sharing purposes, and you can sync up with friends on it for sharing scores or even seeing their life updates if you aren’t out with them. 👍
Im fairly good at hitting my irons off the turf at ranges but when im hitting off actual grass their horrid compared to my shots at the range. Is their any tips or is it just a matter of practice on actual grass?
Definitely sounds like practicing on grass is a necessity if it’s THAT significantly different for you. Are you fatting or thinning most of your outdoor shots? What’s the “horrid” miss you typically have?
I feel that! One of the ways I started breaking 80 a bit more consistently (still not every time, that’s for sure) was by dialing back the power of my driver. I started to try and hit it shorter and it got a lot more consistent. Sometimes I still try to smash it and the result is not great. Haha
Great timing of this comment because I JUST got back from a round in the rain and found the far slightly choking down on it helped me stay very consistent off the tee today too. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Chris! I’m in the process of editing my latest round (in the rain) and think it should offer some more insight into the “average golfer” mentality I try to maintain.
Ha! You’d think I’d be able to avoid such a big hazard but golf is a tricky game. (Side note: that was just me struggling with the shot tracer because I’m an English teacher, not a tech guru 😅😅😅)
No I don’t pay for anything official and unfortunately with The Grint app, you need to get the card attested from someone you play with. But I was just solo and got paired with a guy I didn’t know so I will just have to unofficially track these as I go.
I use the desktop Mac version of Shot Tracer. They’ve got a good update recently where it tries to auto trace most of the shots which is super helpful. Sometimes I have to tweak them to the proper spots or create on my own but it saves more time on the few that are already accurate.
Funny you should say that because while I agree, I also noticed in the video I’m about to post in a couple of days that I need to reduce the waggles of my pre-shot routine. Might be time to train myself down to one only.
I just looked him up - Looks I have some new videos to watch because this DOES sound like my kind of guy. 👊 Thanks, now I’m terrified to use my 3-wood 😅
Wahooooo! I’ve thought about also trying to recreate some swing tips but only talk in lefty lingo since most of them just talk to righties. Would that be of any interest to a fellow lefty even though I’m just an average golfer?
I’ve only got four rounds in this year and sitting at 10 right now. Last year I ended up at 7 so I’m hoping to be there or slightly better (maybe 5??) this season 🙏
Thanks, I appreciate that! I’ve only played four rounds so far this season and sitting at 10 handicap at the moment. I ended last season at 7 so I’m hoping to get back to that and slightly better this season.
Your first water shot I don't believe you dropped in the right spot. You're supposed to drop where the ball crossed the water so that means you should have dropped way back further close to the t-box
Depends what you mean by “right spot” I guess. If I was playing under tournament conditions or as a professional, then I would likely have to play by the letter-of-the-law. But I’m just an average golfer and playing a course that has drop zones (as evidenced by the sign I showed) to maintain pace of play and keep the game fun. So in this case, it was most certainly the right spot to drop. 🙂 Keen eye tho and thanks for watching!

Very good round, a buddy and I played this way Saturday wasn’t close to 80 but is so much more fun, great round especially first of the year

finally another lefty! Subbed, nice playing and mindset
Thanks for the sub, Mitch! Lefties unite 👊
Nice to see a fellow lefty play like this. You have a good strategy. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed! I’m still trying to find something consistent but this day felt pretty good.

Very cool video
Thank you! May I ask what you find cool about it? Still trying to find my groove with video creation so any feedback is welcomed!

Great quality, and an enjoyable video to watch, keep it up brother!
Thank you so much, Colin! Another video should will be dropping on Sunday and I’m hoping for a new one every week (two max) moving forward. ✌️
Nice round!!! Like the content and a fellow golfer here in Ontario, nice!!!
Thank you! They won’t all feel this clean but I’ll take it when I can get it. Haha. ✌️

Great video dude. My dad and I play Crosswinds few times per season.

An interesting round. I have played at Crosswinds a few times when living in Burlington. As a lefty myself, how about a WITB?
Awesome! It’s definitely one of my fav courses in the area. Sure, I can do a WITB video sometime in the near future!
I seem to break 80 easily early every season. Frequently. Then after a month or 2 my shanks come back out of the blue and I feel like quitting golf. Then the cycle repeats. Absolutely hate this game right now
😂 I feel that. I think early in the season there are few expectations and then you play well and start being harder on yourself.
Loooove the commentary!! Haha
🙂 Thanks! Adding some to my latest round (should be uploaded Sunday) over next few days and you might enjoy that then. I have to be quite sarcastic with myself while trying to keep my vibes positive in the rain. 😅
Nice swing
Thanks John! I still sway a bit much and rush the back and downswings inconsistently but feel like I’m making strides.
What app do you use? And why do you like it? Currently using golfpad but looking to make a change! Awesome content y

Great video! I'm a 12 handicap, so I usually shoot low 80s. But breaking it is tough. For me, my sporadic driver is costly!

@LordVerdo Beauty; have a great round!
Fun video, Subbed!

2:59 runnaway bag!!!!
😅 Was wondering if someone would notice that! Thankfully it’s just the power cart of the guy I got paired up with. That cart was in good hands 👊
Did you put the card in for
handicap score.
No I don’t pay for anything official and unfortunately with The Grint app, you need to get the card attested from someone you play with. But I was just solo and got paired with a guy I didn’t know so I will just have to unofficially track these as I go.
what do you use for your ball tracers?

The waggle is the most important part
Funny you should say that because while I agree, I also noticed in the video I’m about to post in a couple of days that I need to reduce the waggles of my pre-shot routine. Might be time to train myself down to one only.
Someone’s been watching some Scott faucet content
Who?
I just looked him up - Looks I have some new videos to watch because this DOES sound like my kind of guy. 👊 Thanks, now I’m terrified to use my 3-wood 😅
Isn't left to right a fade not a draw?
For a right-handed golfer it is, but I’m a left-handed golfer.
@@ParawayGolf ah ok gotcha
Another lefty lets gooo
