    I completely appreciate your knowledge and your natural "let the plants take care of themselves for the most part" approach. Plants have been around for hundreds and thousands of years way before we started sticking them in our garden. They've learned to adapt and overcome over the years without us fertilizing and fussing over them too much. I just don't understand why everyone wants to fertilize their annuals get the most they can out of them, get the biggest and the most blooms. Appreciate the ones that it produces without forcing it. I understand they're pretty but just let them be naturally beautiful the way they are. With my physical disability I am now switching my garden to an all prennial garden, shade and sun loving plants. I enjoy Dahlias and so many others but Its just getting too hard for me to plant annuals every year. I have learned so much from you about soil and taking care of insects, annuals and mulching You just have taught me so much you have no idea. ❤

    I do my weeding the same way, a little at a time. Actually, everytime I'm walking in or around my home if I see weeds I'll pull a handful of them. It works well, and the beds stay well weeded.

    Good idea to prune to get bushier plants, I was loathe to cut off flowers, but I can see it's better in the long run to trim. I use kitchen scissors to trim when they're small and soft to save my hands getting sore. And good idea to weed as you go, in my huge garden it's become a chore.

    Syringing is a very common technique on the golf course to cool down putting greens in the afternoon heat. A couple minutes of top watering cools down the turf through evaporation.

    Just what I needed to know! I've finished planting the annuals across the front of the house and down the side of the driveway with your recommendations for pollinators. Added petunias by the mailbox because that's what my granny did and it makes me happy! Speaking of happy, I saw fireflies tonight, the first of the season! We had to take out some trees in order to get some sunlight in the backyard, but I made sure we left the back one-fourth of the yard alone and left the leaves covering the ground so the insects had a home. Working on getting the birds back...

    Tender growth - yes, a virtual salad for "pests," including rabbits. What I've noticed is that perennials that may be eaten to the ground by rabbits in year one, will suddenly be less appetizing on thicker, more woody stems in years two and three. Examples: clematis, roses, daisy varieties etc.

    We moved into a new home last fall and the builder had sodded the entire back yard. The company we hired this Spring to remove some of the sod in the back didn't dig down, but only skimmed the top of the spoil to make our beds... fast forward to Spring, with having Bermuda grass, we are inundated with Bermuda in the beds. Other than hand digging it out, is there any other safe way to take care of it without harming our other plants? Roundup could be possible if carefully applied. Thanks a million!

It started to leaf back beautifully about a month ago. However a week ago I noticed it was covered by thousands of black aphids, I could barely even see the leaves!! I keep hosing it off and drenching it in Neem oil daily and it’s better but there are still a ton. Any advice to eliminate them?? I’m afraid the leaves are going to start curling from damage. You mentioned inviting birds to your yard. I would love to do this and have had a few feeders and suets. Do you have a recommended bird feeder that stands up to multiple visitors... not only do the birds visit, but so do the squirrls and some deer even! Looking for a sturdy well made feeder recommendations.

    • @amyp8833
      @amyp8833 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have multiple bird feeders because we love to watch the birds. However, I have noticed that, in addition to squirrels (which we are able to keep out of the feeders with various methods), we also now have a LOT of very cute chipmunks who eat the seed that falls to the ground. Great, right? Any seed eaten on the ground is one less to germinate. But no .... chipmunks are also tunnelers. So, in addition to moles and voles, we now also have chipmunk tunneling. I have read that chipmunks do not eat roots like the voles do, but their tunneling has certainly disturbed enough roots that we have lost some perennials. You may not have chipmunks where you are (yet! we didn't either until maybe 3 or 4 years ago). But just a word about the possibility.
