    You should have unsolder the XLR connector from the cable and after inserting the cable, you solder it again.

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, but still very clumsy and you lose the rubber cap on the base of the tripod.

    Could anyone tell me what is the max weight this pole can load? I want to use with a softbox and flash (1.0kg) with 3/8 adapter and let my assistant to manage light in wedding photos.

    Thanks for the video. I'm considering a blimp to improve the audio quality recording my tennis matches.

    How big is the diameter of the hole in the top? In other words, how big can the XLR connector be to still fit through? I'm hesitant to just buy a cable and then realise it won't fit and might not even be disassemblable like your's.

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most will not fit. I think Rode made a big marketing mistake by saying you could actually thread it - especially since most XLR's these days don't have removable caps like the one in the video. I don't have it on my and so therefore can't measure but I'd say stay away if thats what you want to do with it!

    • @DesertCookie
      @DesertCookie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know of an alternative that actually fits XLR cables? I've come across some China-made of questionable quality with fixed cables. But what if that cable breaks?

    Why do you test the wind resistance against a fan? The very point of the wind is that it is soundless while the fan´s motor sound will kill all the wind noise.

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right - if we can hear only the motor and the "whoosh" that means it's working - if the sound gets all clipped and nasty we know the wind is getting through to the condensor plate and corrupting the recording.

    Why you use a Blimp and not just a dead cat/windjammer!?

    Why are your nearfield monitors so damn high?!

    Hey, Ryan Reynold .... I have one question..... Can we achieve broadcast quality from this setup ? And also... Is the difference between ntg3 and ntg4+ considering ntg3 price is doubled than ntg4 or + also 2 ?

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      😂Ryan Reynolds lol.
      Definitely broadcast quality. I can't speak to the differences in those mics as I've never used the NTG4+, I would say the law of diminishing returns is probably at play. For double the price, you probably only get a few percentage points of quality

    Question, do you know if the Rode Blimp will work for the Sennheiser MKH416 Shotgun Mic? Thanks a million for any feedback!

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes sir! The MKH416 is almost exactly the same size as the Rode NTG3. This blimp would hold a mic up to 325mm in length, and 22mm in diameter. (MKH416 is 250 x 19)

    Are there some camcorders under 5000 dollars that record in 4K/4000some. on -3000 something in 60 FPS proffesional? I need a XLR mic input on the camcorder. I DO NOT WANT THAT CAMCORDER THAT IS NOISY.... Thanks.

      If you're budget is up to $5,000, and you need a camcorder, clean image, 4k and XLR inputs, look no further than this guy: amzn.to/2JwXL2p

    How much weight can boompole pro handle at full 10' feet ? Will the carbon fibre bending ??

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! I don't know the details on that, but a full shotgun mic/blimp rig at 10 feet is nothing on the pole.

      How did you remove that plastic part so you could fit it in the boom pole? The head part that can unscrew. Also what xlr cable are you using in the boompole?

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was a simple screw removal around the clamp at the top of the boompole that, once removed, allows the pole to be opened. The issue is you need an XLR that has a removable metal cap (protective cap for the three prongs) so you can fit it through. In this case it was an old XLR I've had for years. They don't tend to make those caps removable much anymore.

    Sounds like you can get away with just the deadcat, not a huge difference with the blimp

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As far as wind protection, probably-but what separates the blimp is the high-end clarity that will still pass through the material, while the dead cat tends to muffle the signal a bit
