I remember how ten Hag used to say Martial is so vital to how his team plays. But we signed Hojlund, a bit of a head scratcher because he's so different from Martial, though he's a good striker in different ways. Of course nobody thought Martial would be unfit the whole season. Now with Zirkzee, I thought there's a player who looks like a more physical version of Martial. Definitely a good buy especially with the low release clause. 11 goals in Serie A where the top 10 scorers average about 14 goals is not a bad record for someone whose game is more than just scoring goals. Definitely see why the big interest in him.
Yeah... Another long-term project. I like his skill set but we really need goals. After a few games of not scoring, the pressure will be on as it was with rasmus all season. Gotta find a way to get the best out of these guys but hopefully given they are young we should be able to get both a lot of minutes with proper rotation to continue development. I just wish we had seasoned pros to tech them stuff along the way, and provide a bit of goal scoring expertise as neither have ever hit 20 goals in a season, as far as I'm aware.

Tbh you need a range of styles and I don't think we were trying to replace martial with Hojlund but have some variety, the hope would have always been that Martial would be fit but he wasn't so but if Zirkzee replaces him that's fine

I really believe he wants to replicate his Ajax playstyle with how stubborn he was with the De Jong saga, that's gotta be why he openly admits "we don't have the players capable of replicate that, our players are best at transition, that's why we're doing it" or something along those lines
We looked great with Bruno at false 9 so I think Zirkee suits our attackers

Zirkzee makes a tonne of sense as a signing this summer. Top class player available for a cut price deal, who offers us something different to what we have. Given that we have Rashford, Garnacho, and Antony as wide players who want to cut in and shoot, a striker who drops deep to link the play, thus creating not only the space for a wide player to cut in, but also has the ability to find them makes so much sense. Furthermore, while I don't think its something that would be permanent, I could see Hojlund playing a few games at RW with Zirkzee through the middle. He'd then be able to use his pace to get in behind for Zirkzee to find, then cutting in onto his stronger left foot to finish. Like I said not something that should be a permanent move for him, but certainly something to try out on occasion if we are short of options on the right.
It’s gonna sound outrageous but everyone said De Jong was the reincarnation of Johan Cruyff but honestly watching Zirkzee in all phases of play for Bologna reminds me a lot of Johan Cruyff so technically gifted and intelligent with his movement and passing

One of the issues i have with hojlund is his body positioning in the box,he most usually receives the ball with his back to goal and that isnt even always with a defender challenging him,its instinctive now and then always trying to make a turn or lay off when he could've easy whipped a shot if he better positioned himself facing the goal
Yeah Zirkzee is the more natural playmaker of the two and their movements are different as you said. For me they both have an equal eye for the pass tho. Both every unselfish. Maybe a 4-3-1-2 might be something to think about. Bruno taking a step back as an 8 and Zirkzee playing behind Hojlund and Rashford
why would we switch to a 442 when we still have capable wingers it seems like a waste of talent
@myles5450 im not saying it should be the default formation. It can be an option depending on tactics against the opposition. Secomdly, the only capable winger we have is Amad. Garnacho, and Rashford are selfish and inconsistent. They are seldom team players. Lets not even talk about Anthony

Zirkee style has to be supported with an excellent rest defence. His hold up play facilitates number 8 to run towards the box vacating their natural position thus lost possesstion would lead to a dangerous counter attack.
A foil striker. Perfect for how Rashford performs optimally. Also at times, allows us to play a front two of Hojlund and Zirkzee- Zirkzee facilitating by creating vacated space for Hojlund to drive into. Everyone feasts.

I think Zirkzee is a smart move. He will get Rashford goals, Garnacho goals, and Bruno goals and probably bag himself about a dozen. It's very exciting to think of him in the lineup for us. Please get it done Utd ☺️

I do agree that zirkzee is a good signing for united as he adds something different since he's not a traditional no.9.
However, in my opinion, I do feel that united should look to sign ivan toney. He's an experienced epl striker and a proper no.9. True his attitude and price tag are a problem but I'm sure a solution can be made for those. I feel toney would be good for united for 3-4 seasons. The reason being we have hojlund and wheatley, who are 21 and 18, will be 24 and 21 and would've taken their game to a whole new level. Basically, by the time we sell toney, we'll have hojlund and wheatley, who'll be ready to play.
He would bring something different to our attack, but I hope he also develops his speed. I am affraid he is currently too slow for our way of playing. Italian league is quite different, speed is secondary, here he would currently be eaten by Van Dijk, Ake, Saliba etc.

Worth a gamble for the low price but to challenge at the top of the league and in Europe, rasmus-zirkzee doesn't seem potent enough. Good young players but not exactly goal machines. I suppose more works in progress and another frustrating season in front of goal awaits us. It wouldn't be so bad if our wingers actually created instead of shooting on site everytime.

Maybe im too old school but i personally can't stand forwards who constantly drop deep. It puts too much pressure on the wingers to pick up the slack imo.
The Rooney, Kane and Firmino drop back ting only works when you have world class or generational ballers like CR7, Salah, Mane and Son for example. We don't really have that. Garnacho and Rashford lack the composure and Amad will never be a high output winger.
