Soma Lyra-8 as Effects Unit

  • The Lyra-8 can take mono inputs and process them through it’s delay and distortion circuits. In fact, and awesome and unique as an effects unit. In this video I show and discuss the possibilities.
    BTW, there’s a Lyra-8 eurorack module that does exactly this. It is just the effects line of the Lyra-8. I have one of those as well, and will try to get a video up about that at some point. It’s tone is a bit different than using the desktop unit, brighter in general. I think I prefer the tone of the desktop FX.

    I love how the lyra makes music out of a monotonous kick drum sound. The 'crazy insane' stuff is the best, it's in new territory.

    As a Lyra owner that’s been feeling it out without having read the manual yet, this video taught me so much! This is the only piece of kit I have that your videos cover, but I’m sure I’ll learn from watching more of your content. 🙏🏾

    I just returned a Erica Synth Synthx because I just couldn't get into it, especially for the huge outlay. My Lyra 8 on the other hand continues to inspire me.

    Hi ! Vlad Kreimer did a nice demo of the FX section capabilities of the Lyra 8 too. You did a "simple sequence" on the Keys as you said. Simple, but my god... this is a short but very emotional melody that goes so well with the romantic, dreamy, tortured sound of the lyra FX. You made me fly man. Thank you, this is very inspirational.

    What a great video : ) I've had Lyra for a few years now but had my focus mostly on eurorack lately and packed min away. When playing I was mostly experimenting with different tunings etc, but sort of ignored the effects side mostly as I could not wrap my head around it. Now that you made this comprehensible demo I'm going to pull it out again and explore it with my rack.
    I was thinking though, at the beginning there, that it would probably sound even better with a bit of reverb to, but that would probably defy the point of this video as a demo of the effects section of this instrument.
    Another thing I thought about is that it would probably be great to hear cello through it, and must try some basic sine two operator FM through it, so I'm going to search for samples with this in mind. Thanks man, your awesome.

      @@philip7505 do you mean you’ll have the LYRA8 as external input in PULSAR23 while simultaneously having the PULSAR23 feeding the LYRA8? Very interested in what that does

    I have a question. Does anyone know if the interface they now sell that lays over the touch sensors and using alligator clip connections will allow you to trigger or otherwise control each pad with the new sequencer they make will also be compatible with eurorack signals? This would be a game changer for sure!!!

    Hey there! What about getting my whole stereo mix (for example from digitakt) into lyra‘s mono input. This is always confusing me... can i damage my stereo output or do i just loose my „good“ stereo signal....!?

    • @Claidheambmor
      @Claidheambmor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's not much to get confused about honestly - you'll lose your stereo signal as it will be summed to mono. No damage will occur.

    • @henryhill92
      @henryhill92 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
