School re-enactment of Civil War battle causes concerns

Some parents at Desert Shadows Middle School in Paradise Valley have concern about a re-enactment of the battle of Gettysburg because of the fake firearms used in the lesson.

But by children reenacting The Civil War, are they REALLY going to “know what it’s like” to be in a war? Not unless they are starving, injured, and surrounded by chaos. While the idea is understood, the point isn’t made anymore than reading and discussing in class.
