Dogs are such fascinating animals. Orion had no search and rescue training, no handler, and had been separated from his owners. And yet, he pulled off the rescue of 37 people. I wonder what was going through Orion’s head as he was pulling those people out of the mud and water. Was it pure instinct? Or was there something else going on? Either way, what a big goddamn hero.
The first tragedy took place in my country; I was 16yrs old when it did. This was the first cult I knew about before Jonestown! Thank you for covering it! For the longest time; even up until now, it was called Kibweteere's cult coz he was the 'face' & main speaker/recruiter. But further investigations showed Mwerinde was the real mastermind & the one pulling all the strings; Kibweteere had more of the charisma & money. Uganda has a tendency of easily 'moving on' or sweeping things under the carpet. Thats the reason the leaders have never faced justice. After a few months of anger & uproar, life as we know it has to continue......sadly! PS: You did do your best with the pronunciation of their names!
Was there even an attempt by the authorities/govt. to arrest the cult leaders - for murdering around 1000 people - or was it more of a nuisance for them to even do their jobs?
I really was hoping that the criminals had faced justice and were rotting in a jail so when I heard they escaped justice I was saddened. I really think you should bring these monsters to justice now, what they did was probably the worst crimes against humanity during peace time.
That injured number of the humidifier disaster is insane. They have less than 52 million people, so that would be percentage points of the entire population.
Even outside of the horrific tragedy for every family, the nation's overall economic future was probably affected to a statistically significant degree; South Korea averages less than a child per woman, and this outrage had a disproportionate effect upon children.
That is an incredible story and I can't understand how it's been kept so quiet. It's really mind boggling. And it's somehow not surprising that director is now running a Google company
This channel always provides well researched, and respectful, retellings of tragic events. You can always tell there is a great deal of reverance and respect for the victims. Thank you for bringing these to attention. I knew about the Vargas landslides from a geology perspective, because those are probably the most catastrophic landslides in modern history, but even there I only know of the city of Vargas built on the delta of past landslides - a common problem in mountainous terrains, see the city of Tahoma - and didn't realize just how many settlements were engulfed, nor the human z(or canine) element and aftermath. One TH-cam channel like no other, and consistently astonishing. I know someone that watched all three stories in a stunned trance, and when Orion was detailed, that someone sat there blubbering. This is what TH-cam is really all about. Thank you.
I learned about the South Korean humidifier sterilizer scandal recently from a true crime podcast called Rotten Mango. They go way more into depth about what happened there, and I recommend giving it a watch if you want to learn more. The other two stories are new to me, although I want to say that the Venezuelan mudslides sounds vaguely familiar. I didn't know about the dog that had saved thirty people, though! Orion was a very good boy!
I know that kind of mud from northern Canada. It's largely clay. When wet it flows smooth but sets like concrete so hard I had to use a screwdriver to get it off my mountain bike. Imagine being buried by it.
The story about the humidifier cleaner was covered on the yt channel rotten mango and i think the title was something about 1500 child victims. Its a great deep dive into the case!
So much tragedy that is the fabric of "humanity" has been glossed over, downplayed and outrightly denied that it's a surprise that you managed to even discover these trio of calamities. These three tragedies, like all the others The Raven's Eye do, are never heard of because some are not newsworthy, especially in the United States or Europe. Unfortunately, the heads of television and radio stations make the decisions which stories air on their newscasts. Same thing with newspaper editors. For TV and radio, time restraints and newspapers, paper space. Costs also factor into the decisions.
Oh Lord have mercy I have never heard of this and I can't believe that I've never heard about this! This is so horrific, those poor people! God bless them
