Because the airport is right next to Washington D.C., the national federal capital of the U.S. and it‘s one of the most heavily protected capitals/cities in the world. A strict no-fly zone is in place, so pilots have to make sharp turns upon arrival and departing from the airport.

I go to school near KDCA, and it’s crazy to see how much the traffic has changed around the area. Thank you for this JustPlanes!
Seeing all the changes from DCA and IAD makes me sad tbh.
Back when the MD-80 was still a common sight...
Still is
@@jessmosley5907Not that much these days! Sure it still is in use as a cargo operator, but not as a passenger aircraft in the U.S. these days.
@jessmosley5907 Only the 717 (MD-95) still operates with Delta and Hawaiian I believe. Not many Mad Dogs left these days.

RIP to N332NG because a year later I think it was scrapped
According to Planespotters, it's still flying.
I wonder where you got the info of its apparent scrapping.
@miladicanimations7759 i thought it did
No big plane 😭
That's because only domestic narrow body aircraft land at DCA. All widebody aircraft have to use Washington Dulles International Airport instead.
