While it's hard to be certain given the way videos slightly alter the perception of distance, it looks to me as if management has spread out many of the displays to make it look as if the store is better stocked than it really is. Retailers do not like having so much empty floor space between racks. Even if it weren't for the wide rack spacing there are some obvious signs of decline: a couple of near-empty corners, the walling-off of part of the second floor, the closed entrance on the ground floor, and the empty space (former optical department?) next to the watch repair.
Sears committed a grave mistake 30 years ago when it began de-emphasizing its traditional "hardlines" such as tools and automotive and appliances in favor of women's clothing: the Softer Side of Sears campaign. While it's true that there's an enormous market in women's clothing with high retailer markups, what Sears could not or would not realize is that there's also an absolutely huge amount of competition. To make matters worse, Sears' rather stuffy, old fashioned image went over very poorly in a retail segment that lives on fashion and trendiness.
Thanks Spyro. I had a melanoma removed from my face last Thursday. Seventeen stitches. I have a massive bandage on my left cheek and my face is puffed up. Hopefully the stiches will be removed a week from tomorrow and I can hit the road again. I promise to film those Publix in Oviedo if everything works out.
@@OrlandoStreets Wishing you a happy new year. We liked browsing there and the sears in the Altamonte Mall. The store looks like they still care, being tidy and all. Well, this is the next thing that will be just memories, soon.
New Friend! You’re channel is awesome! I love this Sears store! Been going there off and on for 25 years! Keep them coming!

Great comment, thanks.
This is the definition of bitter-sweet. SEARS, once the definition of retail sales, and an employer of easily tens of thousands of Americans.

Remember Sears was one of the first Amazon's with their pre-computer Era massive catalog.
I loved catalogs. I really miss those.
@@R32R38 their Lands End clothing line purchase was a disaster
When will you get back to shopping Publix again? hope to see you one day. Always enjoy your videos

@@OrlandoStreets feel better- thinking about you
I went yesterday, just to see one of the last stores. Sears was huge 30+ years ago. Maybe bigger than Amazon!
Sears was definitely bigger than Amazon 30 years ago.
@@OrlandoStreets amazon wasnt even notable as a online shop till the mid 2000s. I started ordering from them around 2009
Exactly right. As I recall Jeff Bezos started Amazon around '95 ish.
@OrlandoStreets You need to revisit this store! They repainted and some refurbishment is underway. I would highly recommend to come back
Sounds good.
That’s a nice big huge sears with two floors
I think I should visit the one here in Annapolis, MD before it disappears.
I thought they were already closed. Hope you're having a happy 2022!
Happy New Year Rick. They're still open. I can't imagine it'll be for much longer.

@@revilo1167 Happy new year my friend. Years ago I purchased my tools, tires and car batteries at Sears. Many moons ago.
Great video. I honestly don’t think the whole company is going to make it through long this year
Oh man! Another bites the dust. Who’s taking that store over?
I haven't seen anything about future plans. A rollercoaster would be cool.
