The reason the 5-1 rule didn't automatically fill in is because the "mark the 4s as bombs" rule activates first (since you made it first), meaning that the 5 region no longer exists!

@@Rapandreas Not in the same rule. To clear empty tiles AND mark bombs, you'll have to make 2 rules, unless the first rule leads to activating another rule that already solves the remaining board state.

I immediately bought this game after I saw 5 minutes of the video, and I am back with advice (so that hopefully you turn this into a series):
    1. Regions (the lines with numbers) are all that matter. You don't need to look at the actual minesweeper numbers on the board, those are automatically calculated in the regions
    2. The "venn diagram" is the consequence of rule 1. You have the colored outline with the number in the corner denoting a region where you know are X bombs. The numbers in the different intersections of the regions are how many slots (hexagons) are in that intersection. In the simplest, 2 region scenario, that will be how many are only in the left region, how many are shared and how many are in the right region (in the ui, not the board). That's, at least at the start of the game, what the "Don't Care" (?) is, and all the other numbers that unlock. As some other people mentioned, if you have a region of 0 bombs, you can put "Don't Care" as the number of hexagons in the rule and just clear them, and it will apply regardless of how many there actually are in the region.
    3. Breaking your brain to make rules more generic saves you 10x the brain melting later on! You probably have like 6 versions of the 0 region rule at this point, because they are all specific to X hexagons. Same goes for a lot of the puzzles you went through where you got used to "we have the 1 2" and just repeated the same thing (ironically within 5 minutes of saying how this game takes the tedium out of Minesweeper). The puzzle you got stuck on before skipping a few for the end of the video: you already solved it! You already had a scenario where regions of 1, 1 and 2 were overlapping with exactly 1 shared space per pair, but the rest of the intersection matrix was different. If you had, from the start (or later on, but rules are sometimes hard to find in the list since there is no search), thought about which spaces are irrelevant, you could have put "Don't Care" and it would have solved that puzzle for you! The game gets progressively more insane, with having to come up with rules as intermediary steps to get to other rules, and, if you don't do it like that, there will probably always be puzzles you actually already solved but forgot how and now you have to figure it all out again in a more complex scenario.
I could tell from your voice you genuinely enjoyed the game, and as daunting as it may seem, I truly hope you stick with it, and ideally start from scratch. If you start rethinking the rules now that you have a better understanding, it will shift how you think of the game and you will be one step closer to that 100% completion!

As well as a nicer looking UI, a more progressive unlock of tools as the tutorial explains each of them.
As it stands, I wanna rip my eyes out looking at locks blocking a third of the screen that could have been better used as an info box telling me what the heck I'm even supposed to use where.

So, one thing that I recommend doing is generalizing your rules, and by that I mean using as much "?", "Number+", "Number-" and use "Number" to maintain it logical, cause sometimes you make two rules that could be one rule
And you can changa the colors of the nodes

  • @Reificios

34:40 The rules is with the blue, purple and the dark green, the 1 slot with both blue and dark green can't be a bomb. If it was a bomb, it will make purple can only have up to 1 bombs but it require 2 bombs.

this game was made 20000 times harder by the fact that you never took any time to generalize any of your rules. you just hit OK and 1 second later you are surprised by the fact that you have encountered the same issue that could have been solved if you simplified in the first place.

This game is crying out for an info box.
There's all this real estate wasted by locks for most of the game that could have just been hidden in a folding menu and put a big info box where each tool and region and menu could have been explained in so much detail instead but all we get are 3 slides with pictures and 2 word descriptions thrown in haphazardly before we even get to look at the board or any of the features.
