It's a 10 easy
I have never read this book, but hearing you all talk about it really makes me want to! Omar is so adorable when he's about to lose control geeking out.
Thank you so much for the kind words and watching.
Awesome video guys
Thank you so much for watching.
You are welcome guys keep up the great work. I have too buy a copy of berserk deluxe edition 1 my got very damage a few months back
Oh no. What happened?
I erred as I putting my book back i hit up again side of my book. Holder
Swamp thing is one of those characters that dc often gets right. While no one will love up to Alan moore, there are so many great swamp thing runs. Nancy collins, rick v., Mark millar, Andy diggle , Brian k vaughn, the newer len wein stuff and now ram v.
more old reader, new reader please. The book club vibe is the best part of the channel.
Thank you so much for the kind words. We are bringing it back to weekly!
I can certainly understand why the POG issue frustrates people. Old readers like me got a real charge out the issue when it hit the stands. I grew up reading the Pogo strip in the newspaper. It was fairly subversive for its time and had a big impact on this little kid. To see Moore pick up the threads of that subversion and weave them into a Swamp Thing story was fabulous. It's definitely a generational specific issue I guess. If you weren't a Pogo fan you probably weren't going to enjoy it.
I have a couple of the Pogo box sets and they are quite fun. I can understand the utter confusion when this book came out and people had no idea about it.
10 out of 10 for me Omar I do agree w/ you on the colors from the two pages you showed off on your comparison vid, besides that I love the new colors especially the look of Swamp Thing himself. My favorite issues were the Autopsy, Demon/Deadman, and the love issue. The best issue to me was the House of Mystery/Secrets issues tho never knew I wanted to check out those characters until I read this
Bought a copy this Xmas and within 3 days the book let out a huge creak and the spine totally separate from the book , was still readable but sucks it broke. That being said beautiful book and I loved the huge artwork!
That is a shame about the spine.
@@NearMintCondition thanks I was pretty disappointed but the pages are still all together so ,readable and I got a full refund from chapters/indigo for it so I was able to get the Batman and Robin by tomasi Omni as well so that a plus.
Are Saga of Swamp Thing 1-19 collected in any format?
Not yet.
They are in the Bronze Age Omnibus along with the entire original ST series.
Swamp Thing Definitely had a lot of questions proposed to audience as series was going
It had a lot of social issues as really raised during this entire form
Really through the creativity of Allen Moore. The story really doesn't want to to let you go.
For me at least I think this is one of Moore's best works.
It sure stands the test of time.
Thanks for knocking an Old Reader, New Reader out before your vacation, especially on this wonderful subject, which I would rate 10.5 - one of the key comic book runs ever. I love the art by Bissette and Totleben, and it's a little sad that Bissette left mainstream comics a couple of decades ago. He currently teaches and also writes on film. His "Cryptid Cinema" about "bayou beasts and backwoods bogeymen" is available from amazon and recommended, but I wish he was still doing comics on a regular basis. Uncanny Omar, have an excellent vacation!
I checked Bissette's facebook page to see if he had any comment on the recoloring. Nope, but this is what he said about the book. "The most opulent and extensive reprint edition of 2019 I had a hand in was/is without a doubt the DC/Vertigo ABSOLUTE SWAMP THING VOLUME 1, which sports almost 40 pages of new material (my brand-new Afterword, amply illustrated). It's a handsome book, and likely the definitive edition; two more volumes to go between now and the end of 2021!"
Thank you so much, my friend. I plan on it. Even with a messed up wrist. I can't wait for volume 2.
Just finished gluing the spine. Great book.
It's a really great book.
Hahaha. This comment got me chuckling
I love Swamp Thing, but I don't plan on upgrading my "Saga of the Swamp Thing" trade paperbacks anytime soon. And I've got a selection of the original single issues. I just can't stand the updated coloring, when one of my first loves of comic books is this very series and its art style. Just gives me chills looking at it in all its original glory.
I also wish there was an option for original colors.
This is one of the top comic book tales of all time. And the soft fuzzy Absolute is just divine IMO. I'm biased yes cos Alan Moore knows the score and is one of my heroes.
Edit. Obviously I wrote this before getting to the end of the video but I’m leaving it here anyway but as Omar confirms Al doesn't hate comics as his daughter posted before Christmas. He hates that DC ripped him off with Watchmen. He never complains about their usage of his other characters like Con job.
Bonus points for calling out his Captain Britain run. The fury terrified me as a child and still does now.
Oh and I give this 11/10
Thank you so much for watching and the kind words. 11/10 is more accurate. The damn Fury were so freaky and so tough to take down. I know Claremont brought them back on his third Uncanny run, but it wasn't the same.
"There are people. There are stories. The people think they shape the stories, but the reverse is often closer to the truth." "Even here. Even here, within these chill and perished thickets that know no witness save the sleeping toads, each curled like a gorgeous alien fetus beneath it's stone. There are stories even here."
He paints quite a picture does'nt he?! You know, i never thought about that Omar. All that narration and thought bubbles only works in this medium!
Moore and Gaiman in particular paved the way for future writers to push the medium forward. Who would have thought that 30 years later, comics has actually "regressed", at least from a literary standpoint. I still love modern comics but i don't think it will ever reach the heights of the 80/90s vertigo years. My favorite run of all time. You had Sandman over this. I have Sandman at 2nd. But really with these two runs, it's potaytoes potatoes. Soooo good!
Thank you so much for the kind words and watching. And I love that you put Moore over Gaiman, but I completely get it. It's a tough decision.
As great as Alan Moore's run is, I still recommend new readers start with Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson's original run. Absolutely amazing stories, and sadly it tends to be overshadowed by the Alan Moore run. DC did release a silver age omnibus for the Len Wein initial run and it's a great companion piece to this absolute.
There is an omni for that run that Iv'e wanted to check out.
Wait there's a DC omni Omar doesn't own?
Several :)
The bronze age swamp thing Omni is amazing!
Just Got my copy yesterday and it was beautiful but there was a printing error that had warped pages 364 and 365, so I`m sending it back to Amazon. It was My first Absolute. The binding was also bad near the last pages. Hopefully the replacement will be in better shape.
Oh man I hope they give you a book with better binding.
This run is very important to me. I collected and read all 6 trades. When I saw the absolute edition was going to be released I got really excited. Then I saw the coloring. It’s disgusting! The new colors and gradients muddy the beautiful artwork done by Stephen Bissette and Jon Totleben. The original coloring was simple and effective and also added to the tone of the story. This new coloring looks like the nineties took a shit all over the book. Plus the temperamental binding. Screw the haphazard absolute edition. I’ll stick to the trade paperbacks.
I kept my HCs for that reason.
The original colours are such an integral part of the art that i had to skip the absolute. Imho
Which is why I kept my Hardcovers.
You keep giving credit to Steve Bissette but the real star of the book is John Totleben. It`s his inks that give the art it`s distinct look. Check out Miracle Man Book 3 to see that it`s true.
I will have to do that. I always give credits to the inkers too or try to.
great story but i will skip the absolutes, not buying dc omnis and absolutes before they give us good quality books again.
with the overpriced books in my country,i cant take the chance on dc omni and absolutes anymore, all of my last dc books have some kind of spine problem.
it sucks but it is what it is,on the other hand,i dont want bad quality booksmhopefully dc will get their shit together
I don't blame you, maybe the next printing will have better binding.
sucks its already oop
I think it's just OOS right now.
