All any of us can say in the end really is thank you from the bottom of our hearts for restoring such an incredible property. Brings immeasurable happiness to all of us. Incredible work Dan!
Yeah, there must be very few bushes and trees left growing in the building's structure by now. It all helps prevent further damage while he's trying to repair the place.
Certainly enjoying watching Dan wrestling with the challenges, and hugely admire the energy and ingenuity. But have to add, that as a property, I'd not wish to live there - am I the only one who feels it has a very creepy vibe, even when viewed through a screen?
@@Lemma01I think it will depend on how it “feels” when finished. A lot f that feeling is down to the air of loss, decay & abandonment that imbues the whole building. Dans done such a huge amount of work & the longer he’s there, the more of that feeling disappears. Eventually it’ll just be an empty building, perfectly restored & just waiting for furnishing with Dans personality &, obviously, actual furniture, carpets & curtains, I think at that point it will be STUNNING!
Wonderful idea of planting the landscape while the rebuilding is happening. By the time the rebuild is close to being done the plantings will be well on its way.
while building chaos is inevitably happening inside, it's a relief to seek a few moments of serenity outside in some natural beauty. philistines never think of that aspect !!
Philistines think it doesn't matter if the outside gets wet but it does matter inside, the priority should be the wall repair, U beam and roof, roof, roof or there will be very little progress over winter and it will be tough going. The project will take 10 years so there is ample time to sort out the garden, it's good that Nick and son are carrying out that bulk of the work but Dan is required in the Chateau, he's just making it harder for himself, it won't affect me I stop "working" (That is a very loose term for me these days) outside in October in the UK and the weather is pretty much the same in France!?!
@@thomasherrin6798big picture. The point of working on the garden now is so that it matches the finishing point of the building. One project, not two. Might be more work upfront, but less work later on. Also, Cameron is not Nick’s son, that was just a joke.
@thomasherrin6798 I believe that the priority needs to be wherever Dan decides it should be. Still, I do understand what you're saying. Can you imagine, though, how focused he has to be, day after day? Working outside is probably like getting away for a few days without actually getting away. It's all good. 😊
Exactly. The demolition and reconstruction stuff makes sense. The planting/landscaping is completely alien to me; I wouldn’t have the first clue about what to do!
I would add that although I admire his efforts, I am sure he sufgers from ADHD. Its obvious with his inability to finish projects he starts before starting another plus his lacking of planning necessities of a restoration and separating them from non necessities. Look, its been 3 months of good weather and he has yet to complete the temporary flooring on all floors or even start getting a roof on which will have to be done in order to do ANYTHING in the winter. Typical ADHD behavior.

Great that you're doing the garden now as well, plants take time to establish and grow, so going to be looking great when you start with the final stages of the chateaux.👍❤
I am glad that he breaks up the days of incredibly hard physical slog on the interior with little projects such as the structural foundations and parklands. The body will last longer!
Well the priority should be wall repair, U beam, floor joists and boards, roof, roof, roof, and roof, it will be Winter very shortly and hardly any progress will happen outside, even inside outside, he can take the internal repair work easy over Winter then in the one Wing, it doesn't matter if outside gets wet, it does matter with the inside!?!
What a great of week of progress for the old chateau - a finished upper floor, another well reinforced wall, ground laid for a hedge row/water catchment system, restored archways all the way around, several dangerous trees down, and another ton of heavy rubble pulled down and hauled out. All of that by a trio of men with boldly colored beards and lots of love for the work they are doing. And all of it topped off by a beautiful Saturday morning garden planning session and, best yet, surprise cameo appearances by none other than a smiling Jack P and his brother Thomas. Love all you guys 💚❤💙💜💕 de Chaumont!
Wow, I’m so impressed. This chateau project is magical. What a wonderful place for the kids to grow up around. Dan, you are an unstoppable machine with massive imagination. You have pulled another wizard in Nick. PS. Love the ever changing beards
Yes, leave the details to Nick for the pond and creek. He is so talented in this area. I so enjoy watching him work. It's a fine brain he has to do all these things and together you will both engineer a beautiful Chateau and all the gounds.
I wonder what Davey will make of your plans for all those rivers and ponds? Glad it’s not raining there so that you can have fun with your boys and the doggies. You can’t be building roofs while the youngsters are running around so planning gardens is the next best thing. Love the strange colouring of the hairy growths, what a delight to see on a Sunday morning in Melbourne, Australia. Just take care. 🇦🇺🦘🦘🇦🇺
Love that the landscape and grounds are getting equal thought and planning as the chateau. Kudos to all of you on this. Dan, Nick, Cameron (and Orange trouser guy!), your work ethic, skill and knowledge is truly admirable. It will look stunning and be your legacy.
Brilliant idea! Planning ahead so the plantings grow a couple of years and look like they have been there naturally growing all along. Water feature can go in later which gives you time to get floors and roof done in the chateau. You all have really nice beard coloring! Cheers!
Being able to "see" the shape of the landscape before it is made is a wonder to me. Nick is not only a master of machines bit is also Dan's modern day Capability Brown. I just hope, as an old fart, that I live long enough to see the fruition of all these projects. Gods I love this vlog.

💕I truly believe that Nick is really enjoying helping & planning with you Dan especially since he said about not being able to climb trees like he use too💕
I am assuming that Nick is invested in the chateau and will continue to be part of the whole progress. Dan will need a team to keep life at the chateau for many years ahead.
Congratulations on exceeding the Movember goal!!!! £22,491 and counting. Really well done. Love the pond, stream, and plantings being planned. Much prettier than a fountain and you get the sounds of running and falling water with the bonus of wildlife being invited in.
Your plan utilizes the elements of landscape design. Cool!👍👍I'm looking forward to the planting! I agree with Dan, you can have a design drawn up, but it comes down to actually seeing the plants at the chateau and how they relate to each other in the setting trumps everything. Seeing is believing!
Dan, check out the videos from “ Garden Answer” about their pond installation, this summer. They videos are quite detailed and will give you an idea how to create it, water depth, self cleaning etc. It was installed on flat land but they created berms gif some interest and put in a large variety of plants. They are planning to extend the pond with a river. I watch their channel every day and will notify you when the river goes in. With Nick you found a true gem. Is there anything he can’t do? Treat him well so nobody snatches him up. So happy to hear that Davy is helping you with the design. You are all a great group of very creative and talented friends. Many blessings to you all!
Garden Answer is wonderful-laughing at how small a world we live in that you’re suggesting he take a look at what Laura and Erin have accomplished. They’re amazing. 👍
There are multiple videos of the pond project. Aaron is very good at planning future infrastructure. He had conduit installed for future lighting. It’s not in the budget yet but it’s there. They added a fire pit to the pond area, powered by a gas bottle ( covered with a faux rock). They even included a hollow tree stump into the design. Keep your felled tree and check if a section is usable as a planter. You may have to seal it to prevent further rotting. Laura and Aaron practice mostly organic gardening. In summer they released predatory mites, via DRONE, to deal with insect infestation in the their dahlia patch. It was super cool. Once you have water on the property, you need a Hoselink, retractable hose. They are awesome. I just installed mine a month ago. Add a frost free faucet to it and you have water access in Winter. Garden Answer has videos about Hoselink and frost free faucets, too.
I know that in the US we call small natural flows of water streams. A river is way bigger. There are plenty of videos of wonderful water features. And they are amazing. I know Nick must have the experience to help you plan a design element for your landscaping.
How funny! I came online today to tell Dan about the Garden Answer pond shows too!! Also thinking about the filtration system they put in. Yes, small world!!! Also, Nick and Cameron are Godsends for Dan and Lalande!!! And now Davy being involved too = such Joy!!!
I love your ideas, mainly that it looks like you'll be able to avoid a lot of lawn/turf and lawn mowers. It would be great to have a few small places carved in to the banks here and there, to sit upon (moss on rocks?) and watch the Dragon Flies flitting about. As a kid we had Tiger Lilly on the banks, and at the other end, Iris...
No one but Nick and Dan can treat restoring a falling down chateau and adding a river to the property as just another Thursday. I am in awe of their ambition.
Great planning to have an outdoor/yard feature to draw people into the Chateau grounds. I wish I could be there to help. I've done this kind of feature several times and the end result is so fun to walk through and the view from the top balconies will be splendid. great drone shots. Enjoy!
It just gets better and better. That water feature is going to be wild. Also, big congratulations to already breaking the snot out of your fundraising goal!!! Still almost 3 weeks to go, alright 19 days, and already nicely beyond 20,000. Great going. Gonna be interesting to see how high it goes.
Very exciting to see the outline of ponds and is it a river or a stream? You are so entertaining to watch especially as you share the same sense of humour! Nick is soo multitalented, wow, as you are all. ❤👏👏👏👏 Lovely to hear your boys in the background and the back of one of them. Xxxx
Suggestion: Keep deciduous trees and plants away from the water features, and it will make your life much easier. Cleaning leaves from water features can be a nightmare. You would be amazed how quickly they can fill up the features and also mess up the water balance, creating too much algae and other issues.
I agree, we built a small back yard pond with a waterfall and river. We had two trees up by the waterfall. The leaves fell into the river which ultimately were either clogging up the river or were carried down into the pond. We were constantly having to clear out the mess they made.
I have a particular dislike for deciduous trees. My age makes it very difficult to clean up the leaves. I would avoid planting them at all costs. I’m loving the coloured hair and beards.
Best beard day, beautiful to listen to you and nick talk about the river ponds and flowers, great to see the kids playing with the pups, i can't wait to see in a few years your dreams all come together in the most beautiful property. ❤️
Nick ! What an Invaluable, talented person . Cameron works so hard , wonderful team! And a river ! It’s going to be so nice! Think of the fun your sons and the pups will have. Of course Davey will work his magic too! Great job Dan!
Wow, your plans for the water features are wonderful - I love the wee bridges & stepping stones back & forth - a Dan/Nic twist on a Chateau formal garden. It'll be beautiful & restful with year-round flowers & blooms. Well Done - I'll be watching progress with avid interest 🥰
True. Dan and the team has made a monumental job, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's another year before there's even stable walls built back up to full height all round the building. And I don't complain at all. It's a wonderful daily routine watching the videos :)
Love watching these men work. Dan is so committed to this huge project. He is talented and I am sure he has learned so much more by working on the Château. Watch every posting since I found you.
En effet, le restoration de ce château est un projet titanesque et le courage de cet homme est sans limite. Un grand respect aussi pour la mémoire de tout ce qui s'est passé en ce lieu durant la deuxième guerre mondiale.
I love the idea of ponds, river, blending in with the woodland planting, the ideas you have are incredible, but they are not just ideas you make things happen...incredible, thank you for making these vlogs..its an amazing journey we are following❤❤❤
Agree, exciting landscaping project, I could imagine it as the two of you were talking about it! Developments in the house and the landscape; a treat to watch this happening. It will continue to be a brilliant restoration of the chateau and the environment around it. Well done guys
Your journey has always been so interesting to watch, now, a river and plantings by Davey! Wow! Much good energy and happiness being wished for you and your crew, from Juneau Alaska!❤ Love Nick’s beard color, today! You both are FAB!
Kids and water ... I'm not sure I would until they were older. Great to see the last external arch in place. Cannot believe your progress in such a short time and I've watched it all happen, truly astounding. Loving the vlogs!

Good you have a vision and are starting the plantings early as some take years to mature. I've been in my house 35 years and am only now finishing the final hardscape and plantings this coming Spring. Granted I have changed things a few times, plants went in, came out and were replaced with something else. Hardscape was put in in stages over 20 years simply because of finances. But I have finally settled on what I want in the last planter bed in the front yard and they will go in this Spring. Just waiting on two more deliveries and if I have room for a small citrus tree. Two more raised beds to build, then stepping stones for the paths in between and the positioning of a bird bath. I do still have repairs for what was already built and now needs replacing but at least the decisions are made and done. The moral of this story? Make a decision and then act on it, don't wait. But be ready to change your mind in the future. It's a lot easier to change a garden than it is to change construction once it is finished.
I absolutely love the plans for the river, it will be so amazing for nature and wildlife, it’s lovely to see how knowledgeable and enthousiast nick is about it!
What a team!!! Love watching these guys discuss their plans and dreams for the river area! Like someone else said…..I hope I live long enough to see all these projects come to fruition ❤❤
This restoration is going to be such a long time in the making, it's just nice to be away from it for a minute to build and plan on other dream projects...and the boys are loving it as well...fun times...!

The beards are rocking it today and glad your som thinks so as well. The dogs are doing what they can to help moving the old beams. Thanks for sharing!
Love the multi colored beards. 😂 Nice to get a little peak of the boys playing. The streams and pond features sound like a great idea, can hardly wait to see it take shape. Okay then we will see ya tomorrow. 👋🏻👋🏻
Definitely don’t plant trees near the river/pond that will drop their leaves in the water. It will cause too much work to keep it clean. Love the idea of different colors blooming all year. The boys and puppies are living their best lives 😍😘

to grow along side the rebuilt/restoration 🎉🎉 makes perfect sense❤
Creative long term planning. Fantastic to see and hear your boys and dogs.
The boys are liveing their best life. Love the idea of a bridge. Will give it an oriental look to match the chateau.
Dan, what a team. So much great work that's making the jigsaw come together.
Love watching the dogs too. They are so good and very curious ❤
Love the beard choice today, I see Cameron is in the game too. Tells where the donations are at soon. 🎉
Over 20,000 pounds. They are on top of the leaderboard.
You can check the total at any time in the link in the description box.
Seeing the puppies running around and playing in the background always brings me joy!
Great planning to have an outdoor/yard feature to draw people into the Chateau grounds. I wish I could be there to help. I've done this kind of feature several times and the end result is so fun to walk through and the view from the top balconies will be splendid. great drone shots. Enjoy!
How are these rivers and ponds filled?
Is it captured rain water?
Wow the river and ponds with all the plants will be spectacular Dan ❤
Been there. Done that. Got the T shirt !
Yes because that never happens in nature! 😂
Best beard day, beautiful to listen to you and nick talk about the river ponds and flowers, great to see the kids playing with the pups, i can't wait to see in a few years your dreams all come together in the most beautiful property. ❤️
Best ever vlog. Loved seeing the children having fun. Absolutely fantastic ideas. Bigger the better. You three make a great team.❣
Yes I think Dan isn't formal garden type of guy, plus this natural type of garden doesn't need the same mantainence, and looks more natural 👍👍
That drone shot shows us just how much of a monumental job there is left to bring this gem back to life.
True. Dan and the team has made a monumental job, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's another year before there's even stable walls built back up to full height all round the building. And I don't complain at all. It's a wonderful daily routine watching the videos :)
The gunnera will look majestic and in proportion with the setting. Can’t wait for the first leaves next year!
DINNER is a grilled Chesse Sandwitch …… and …… ESCAPE TO RURAL FRANCE ……❤
What could be better🎉❤
Haha, I just had cheese on toast for breakfast here in Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
Love watching these men work. Dan is so committed to this huge project. He is talented and I am sure he has learned so much more by working on the Château. Watch every posting since I found you.
I love the idea of ponds, river, blending in with the woodland planting, the ideas you have are incredible, but they are not just ideas you make things happen...incredible, thank you for making these vlogs..its an amazing journey we are following❤❤❤
This garden and river will be amazing.
These men - great visionaries , creators and builders - wonderful to see and follow
Agree totally
Oh river pond, sounds wonderful. As soon as Nick mentioned Irises, I thought of Monet’s Gardens at Givernay. Sounds like Nick was too - beautiful ideas. Oh the scheming that goes on between demos & noggins, 🎉🎉🎉 The beard painting, you guys are too funny. 😂😂 Good on ya!,
I love the fact you said it’s important to do fun things when you have hard work to continue ! Keep the mind high! ❤👍
The amount of scrap you have had to haul out of the Château is unbelievable! Amazing job
I really enjoy seeing various parts of the chateau being restored. Dan, as my dogs say, roof roof.
So happy for a glimpse of Jack! I miss seeing the family.
Omg Dan, those two little boys are growing so fast. Wonderful seeing them.😊❤
So happy to see the boys again and sounds like a wonderful garden you are going to make for them to play in ❤
Thank goodness for good friends and amazing workers .Eileen and Brian
What an exciting adventure in reconstruction and landscaping!!! 🥰❤️🇨🇦 🏰 😎🐶🐶👏👏👏
I absolutely love the plans for the river, it will be so amazing for nature and wildlife, it’s lovely to see how knowledgeable and enthousiast nick is about it!
Big Dan, thanks once again for sharing this exciting episode of your journey with us and we'll see ya tomorrow!!!
The depths of Nick's talents continue to amaze!
Good to see Dan the Gardener for a few minutes
What a team!!! Love watching these guys discuss their plans and dreams for the river area! Like someone else said…..I hope I live long enough to see all these projects come to fruition ❤❤
This restoration is going to be such a long time in the making, it's just nice to be away from it for a minute to build and plan on other dream projects...and the boys are loving it as well...fun times...!
It's great to have such a vision, and friends like Nick who is brilliant at getting it to life. I can't wait for the pins and plantings to happen!
That’s sounds like a beautiful front garden. I think the wildlife is going to find your pond a wonderful resting spot.
Every morning with my first cup of coffee as it is morning here in Australia 🇦🇺 when you post your video.
Love it and always can not wait for the next one every day, you are a good team of friends 🇦🇺🦘🦘🐨
So glad to see a vlog!!!
Nick needs to stay long turn!!! Just another yurt
Hugs from Texas
Wow what vision Nick has! I’m amazed at his vast & depth of knowledge
That news about the pond is exciting.Perfect spot for it . Can’t wait .
A river/ pond is a wonderful addition to this project thanks for walking us through the creative process. ❤
Great vision… I always love a water feature and it sounds like yours is going to try to make it very natural looking. Bridges are always fun as well. The beards are rocking it today and glad your som thinks so as well. The dogs are doing what they can to help moving the old beams. Thanks for sharing!
I love how Nick and Cameron are really getting into the "Movember" spirit. I almost spit out my tea seeing today's creations. Funny
Well that was exciting. I love watching gardens be built.😁👍
This is VERY NEAT. I am impressed with the thoughtfulness of you two
Love the multi colored beards. 😂 Nice to get a little peak of the boys playing. The streams and pond features sound like a great idea, can hardly wait to see it take shape. Okay then we will see ya tomorrow. 👋🏻👋🏻
I agree. The stripes in Dan's beard was too funny.
Definitely don’t plant trees near the river/pond that will drop their leaves in the water. It will cause too much work to keep it clean. Love the idea of different colors blooming all year. The boys and puppies are living their best lives 😍😘
Each and every one of you work very hard and diligent. And of course Dan, you never cease to amaze us from your Lowe's to your highs keeping us on the edges of her seats. But as many have said with Nick and the machinery it is wonderful to watch him work and like others have said also. Cameron or works crazy. Good. Crazy but you all work together beautifully loving the dogs and the boys in the background. God bless you Dan and your family and God bless all the rest. We continue to follow your journey and to watch your beautiful phoenix rise again the chateau❤
Nick looks like a wizard, going into the dungeon , upon his dragon. The amazing work continues! Dan, you and your crew are amazing! Thank you for sharing your adventures and work!
Just like Dan and Nick to add to the final picture … restored château, safe forest, ponds, stepping stones, a gentle flowing river complete with plants perfectly positioned to add to the ambience… and of course a bridge over the river … perfect picture !!!! Durban SA🇿🇦😅
Love the plan for the river and the pond. And so good to see (and hear) the boys having such fun ❤
