Greeting's from Ireland, We had a really cold spell in December 2022 with minus 10 every night for three week's luckily I have really good draining soil. I did not have a mulch over them and to my surprise they popped there little heads up and flowered in summer.
I find Crocosmia to be indestructible in the West Midlands. Split mine and spread clumps in all areas of the garden, from full sun to full shade. Heavy manure rich soil, damp heavy clay soil, and just general multipurpose compost in pots. I just plant small clumps around as fillers and throw loads away when they start spreading and becoming to bushy for my liking.
Thanks so much for this lovely video.🙏 I’ve just recently found these unique and gorgeous plants at a local garden center that’s sells a higher end and most extensive product line. I’m in love❤️❤️❤️ Just bought corms to start in late June even though I’m taking a chance. I’m in Eastern PA US and hoping for some fall blooms. Subscribed and loving your videos!🙏☀️
Hi Jo, I keep the foliage in place until it starts to offend me. Then it goes! Its best for the plant to allow it to absorb nutrients, sugars and starches from within the leaves back into the corms so they are stronger and larger for powering next years display.
I currently grow Crocosmia Lucifer in 2 locations on my property and I'd like to raise the grade level in one area to do away with the slope of the ground, can I add 4"-6" inches of soil above the bulbs in their current location where they are currently planted at about 4" inches or would that be to deep for them?
as lovely as they are i think they need to be banned. in ireland theyre getting obscenely invasive, some verges are just 20+ meters of them crowding anything else out

That just goes to show what a fantastic plant that is. Thanks for sharing your experience here Nicholas. Simon

Thanks very much. That's appreciated, Barb. Our Crocosmias are just starting to bloom, so I hope to feature them in my next garden tour. Simon
Good info ...just planted 20 new bulbs....fongers crossed
Hi Gman, these are a great choice. You shouldn't have a problem with these. Simon
Hi what is the best way to allow the plants to die back before cutting back without them collapsing and spoiling the look of the garden please 😊xx

I would probably dig them up, remove the foliage and replant. Simon

I agree, the naturalised Montbretia should be considered as an invasive weed. Simon
Lucifer is a bit of a thug. But I like them
I agree, we are of the same mind. Kind regards Simon
