    I'm the owner of the property Dennis is working on in the video. I believe this is the third time in the last 7 years I've hired Dennis to push some dirt around for me. He always does a top notch job. A very skilled operator, something you can only truly appreciate when standing close to him and his machines. Great spatial awareness and a light touch. He's told me he's been operating machinery since he could reach the pedals as a kid. I have no doubt he's telling the truth. I also purchase all my firewood from him and his product is consistently high quality and delivered with a smile.
    Dennis did a wonderful job re-shaping the slope towards the end of the video. I wish I had video of when he started so you could see the before and after difference, but I had to dash off to purchase some 2 inch pipe to extend a drain so he could bury the pipe and finish that section of the job. I also missed some of the stumps he dug out because it was cold that morning. While Dennis was in his nice warm cab, I was outside with bare hands trying to hold and operate a camera phone. So this old man had to take a few breaks to thaw out the digits. ;-) Can't wait for part 2.

    I am so glad I found your channel.You are so skilled and smooth. This is an excellent training video. I am 70 never been on an excavator. I purchased a new Bobcat E26 and it will be delivered today. I will be using it on my few acres around my home. Most of my land is on a slope steeper than this video, so watching you helped a lot. You make that look so easy, that is cool. You can tell when someone has alot of experience with an excavator, they make the machine movement flow like an extension of their arms and hands.

    Over the years I have taken out numerous stumps with my backhoe and admittedly it was undersized for the task in many of those stump removal situations. I was taken by how good the soil conditions were for the job on the day this was filmed. There was almost exactly the correct soil consistency and moisture for doing the task on that day. With a little shaking and bumping the dirt cleaned off very nicely and even the roots pulled out for quit a distance. Very nicely done and boy do I wish I had that nice excavator! A tremendous benefit of having an earth moving business to go along with the farm. Nick, North West Farmer

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's very unusual that the dirt comes off the stumps so well. Most of the time you can't get it off for nothing.

      I own the property in the video. Several years back I hired Dennis to dig out a parking area for me, then back fill with gravel. I had already cut the edge of the area to be excavated with a flat landscaping shovel. Dennis used a 3 foot bucket with a smooth edge (no teeth) to dig down about 3-4 inches to pull up the sod and top soil before filling with gravel. I was astounded how precise he was with the bucket. Not one time did he need to put soil back in after digging too deep. Simply amazing watching Dennis work with his big boy toys. ;-)

      I own the property in the video and took the footage. I have hired Dennis several times over the last 7 years. It was only 2 years ago that I realized he had a TH-cam channel. I filmed the video for my own use and offered Dennis the raw footage in case he wanted to use it on his own channel. It's tough for Dennis to film a job like this because he is constantly moving from spot to spot, so a fixed camera wouldn't work without him constantly getting out to move the camera. As Dennis remarked that day, when people are paying you by the hour to work, they don't appreciate it when you are taking time to operate the camera. I'm thrilled Dennis decided to use the footage. He's always doing something interesting with his machines.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how your digging, in this situation if you watch I'm using the prying action of the bucket against ground more so than the lifting action of the machine that's why the back of the machine was not raring up except for a couple times and that was just error on my part. One thing I was trying to prevent was tearing up any more yard than I had to with the tracks so I was not twisting and turning the machine to get lined up with the stump unless I had too to prevent yard damage.

It wasn't a vineyard, but instead three 20 year old Hardy Kiwi vines that were planted by the original owner and had become very inconsistent with producing fruit. My wife and I wanted to use that section of the fenced garden area for other things, so we pulled the Kiwi. The stumps belonged to several older apple trees. Again, we have access to apples elsewhere on the property and wanted to devote more area of the fenced garden to production of veggies for canning and consumption.

      I'm not sure. The owner said the ones in the garden we're apple but I don't know about the rest.

      @@DLHFarms The bigger stumps Dennis pulled out on the slope were a mix of pine, locust and poplar. I cut them down about 4 years ago so I could build the barn on piers you see in the video. Dennis actually demolished the old chicken coup that was standing where the new barn is now. I reused the concrete pad it was built on to help support some of the new barn. Dennis mentioned a stump real close to the barn that I did not film him removing. He actually tried to pull that stump 4 years ago, but it was freshly cut and when he started to move it, the concrete pad also moved. He immediately stopped and we moved on to other things. Three years of underground root rot allowed Dennis to remove it this time without disturbing the concrete pad. Thanks Dennis.
