Thank you for the rapid reply Cris. Once again you gave all of us enlightment on cleaning our 78's and maintain your positive personality and great taste in music from yesteryear. Your'e aces kiddo.
Interesting trick. Let me explain, I have my 1926 Victor Victrola VV 8-4 Orthophonic console, and I can't remove the scratches from a 78 by playing backwards, because my Victrola has a 4-spring motor, the most common motor in a Victrola that Victor produced at that time, and the reproducer would help. As for my Victrola, it has a handle to wind up as many times as I can. The record you're playing is a song by Sarah Vaughn. I want to get the 78, if there is one on eBay, I might get it. If they didn't have it, they only have the 45 of this song which is available. My GE Wildcat didn't help either. My Fisher rebadged BSR record changer does the job when I turn it backwards while it's on the "Stop" position and act as a neutral mode, and so does the GE Show 'N Tell that has a neutral position. As for my Victrola, it didn't help at all.
yup, but make sure playing the record backwards isn't creating a hiss as you do it, if not you should be good but maybe not for styrene 45's unless your using a really light weight cartridge, and again, make sure it's not causing a hiss.
I do this to 45's, on later records when the material used to make the records was softer "about 1969+" even the clicks from a deep scratch can be quieted down a bit if not corrected. Scratches that go below or close to the bottom of the groove are too deep and it will only make it click worse. I want to invent a record groove corrector, allot of if not all of the fuzziness can be removed just by smoothing out the groove with regular play. My problem is that most needles flatten out when too much downward pressure is applied and the cartridge will rub on the record. I will try it on some 78's that look like they are EX but play VG+ because of the fuzz. I would not expect to be able to take out any clicking from a 78 though.
wow what an amazing trick and so simple I had asked two people and they said wood glue or putting half the record at a time in a ultra sonic cleaner with dish soap well this seems the easiest . great video as always all the best
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but it's a neat trick to have available (mentally). Wood glue I'm told can do a lot of good for an old record and take out a lot of the dust and dirt on any record, but I wouldn't.. seems a little crazy to me.. lol. Spray 9 works on 45's great. I put a little on a clean rag that's already been wet with water. I wipe it on the grooves, then with a clean water rag, I rinse the stuff off, like 3 times, make sure to get it all OFF of the record.. this has basically the same effect, some records sound a lot better after doing this, and some it has little difference but it's what I do. At times I've been amazed at the difference.
you always seem to amaze me with your new ways of doing thing and i really enjoy watching your videos . you are always fun to watch and a really great guy all the best to you
It's worth a shot, though with "really badly scratched" 78's you may find that nothing really works to remove the scratches, this might help and I'd say is worth a try!
Sure! I do it on my 15 to 30 year old 12"s all the time, and it works~! Sometimes there's a piece of dust stuck right in the groove and doing this has a habit of knocking that 'stuck' dust right out of there!
It's the same record, all you see here was recorded in one take, I just slightly edited the video to take out a few boring moments, which made the video last longer than it needed to and made it drag.

I was flabbergasted and astonished at the difference! I may actually have the courage to try that.
Great video thanks will this work with 7inch vinyl

Thank you chris. That was extremely helpful to all those who own 78vinyl. Do have any Peter Pan records on 78rpm as well?
well done very clever idea

@PJDooWop It's called "Make yourself Comfortable" by Sarah Vaughan.
CrisVangel1958 I want to get the 78. I wish if there is one on eBay, I might get it. If not, all they have is the 45 of this same song.
O h 😮 does it works really ?
I have plenty of records
Will they be scrach free ?

You too, Brother!
thank you and have a great week and evening and keep all those great videos coming the you tube world would ot be the same without you
I used to have a couple but gave them away to a dear friend who collects them.
Amazing! I have some badly scratched 78s that I'm trying to fix, will this be enough or do I need to do something more drastic?

Nice trick.
What is the song? It has such a fantastic intro
Are you doing this with a shellac or a vinyl record?
The record used here is probably a composite material. The method works for both, but I wouldn't advise doing it with a styrene 45 record.
Clever,, i've done that to unstick a record that skips.... but that didnt work..was a one shot..
It often does but if there is a deep dig in the record, it likely won't work.
Yeah,,
can you do this with 33 rpm and 45 rpm
Sure! I do it on my 15 to 30 year old 12"s all the time, and it works~! Sometimes there's a piece of dust stuck right in the groove and doing this has a habit of knocking that 'stuck' dust right out of there!
You swapped the record
Bit of an edit cut here, lol.. Different record..
It's the same record, all you see here was recorded in one take, I just slightly edited the video to take out a few boring moments, which made the video last longer than it needed to and made it drag.
Fair enough.. The edit did look odd though.. Must try it out..
you cut and spliced the video
Just to make the video shorter, and easier to watch. People tend to have a short attention span.
🤣😂🤣
