  • Almost 1,000 years ago, a catastrophic volcanic eruption incinerated the land, displacing people who farmed here and changing the landscape forever. That was Sunset Crater - the youngest volcano in the San Francisco volcanic field, a string of volcanoes near the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff, AZ. We hike three trails: Lenox Crater Trail, A'a Trail, and Lava Flow Trail.
😄 Stick around for bloopers at the end of the video!

Haven't been to SuCr (or Arizona at all) since 2002. Memorable for the cinders in my shoes and the National Parks Monopoly game I bought at the Visitor Center. 15-year-old me didn't have a clue how much geologic significance I was observing.

I hope you were able to stop by the Lowell Observatory and see where Pluto (#stillaplanet) was discovered.

Unfortunately not this time, but I did not know that Pluto was discovered there! That's very cool!

@@AdventurousWay They still have the telescope used by Clyde Tombaugh and a number of fascinating artifacts related to his discovery. The campus of the observatory is beautiful as well. If you ever drive into Flagstaff at night, you will notice that the town has some decent low light pollution as the observatory is still used for science.
