Michael Nielsen Agreed! For me it’s every bit as good as the OD channel. Versatile and hits all the classic tones with a feel that is uniquely Soldano.
Great Vid. Glad to see the Soldano name, living on. I met Mike, when he was building his 1st prototypes. We met at Family Reunion, in the early '80's (He's a cousin, to my late wife).I was in College and he was not far out of High School. I was a Music & Audio Engineering student; rebuilding vintage tube Hi-Fi amps; as a hobby. We got on, straight away; geeking out about transformers and bias circuits & tone. He was also amazing, at guitar electronics. I went to his house (nxt door, to family reunion) and we talked guitars & amps; all evening. After that - I was excited, for him, each time a noted musician bought his gear. Once he got an amp to Mark Knopfler, and from there to Clapton, the rest is history. As a side note, I REALLY REALLY want a SLO30!
HOLY F...IN´COW !! Man..i WANT this Beast .. Soldano , that was that Boutique Amp Builder in the 90´s when it came up , everybody was talking about it ..Great to see them Back .. That Amp sounds AMAZING !
@@fedexnman The quality is excellent and it's made in the U.S. The SLO has also always had a life time transferable warranty. Most amps don't. It cost a little more and you get what you pay for quality and tone wise.
SCAR-MY-GUITAR the price is less than a Bogner Helios. The price has moved up to $3,000. The Friedman amps are in the 3,000 and up range and they’re great. A lot of guys sell them a after they realize they can’t afford them or they can’t really play as well as they should for that price. You can get a nice used, mint amp for less than 2 grand. If you don’t want a great amp than buy a cheaper one. There is definitely a difference.
I think probably most of the people complaining about the price have never even heard of Soldano, let alone actually played an SLO. Street price is actually lower than the original before they stopped making them, and that's without all the new features included now.
Of course the price tag is out of reach for most of us but I'd love to plug my guitar into this little monster one day. Loved the crunch tone...the definition of each string is amazing.
Strange how people in the comments below are bitching about the prices. It's Soldano. A legend. What the heck did you expect? Take a look at some vintage examples and see what they cost today. Even at these prices, the amps are a steal, they'll hold their value or probably fetch more in the future. Great video Phil!
I think probably most of the people complaining about the price have never even heard of Soldano, let alone actually played an SLO. Street price is actually lower than the original before they stopped making them, and that's without all the new features included now.
The quality is way better than Marshall and it's made in the U.S. The SLO has also always had a life time transferable warranty. Where is the Marshall made? Warranty? It cost a little more not 4.5 times the price and also you get what you pay for quality wise.
The prices are in line with all the other top tier boutique amps. Bogner, Friedman, Diamond, etc. cost just about the same. If you can't manage the price, maybe you're in the wrong store.
I get that Soldano is a "boutique" amp company. But when other high gain, high dollar "boutique" amp companies like Revv, Fortin, Friedman, Engl, etc., are offering lower wattage mini heads at the sub-$1500 price point, it makes it really difficult to justify spending $2400 on the Soldano.
When he mentioned in an interview that there’s a “little more compression” on the 30 I got bummed out. I owned an avenger and liked it but it was compressing the power section too much for my tastes even at medium and low volumes. I really don’t need 100 watts but the headroom is attractive. I want the front end to compress not the back
Was pissed that I didn't grab one before the price shot up drastically when Mike announced his retirement (well, have an Avenger 100, but not a SLO), but now I am OK with that. Dear bank account, I am sorry.
He sold his share to Boutique Amp Distribution (synergy amps, etc). So he is not the builder anymore, but still work as the consultant and the main designer.
Muhammad Ghur cool. I’m sure he did well for himself. Hopefully Soldano remains true to their roots and doesn’t compromise their quality. I like the Synergy modular approach a lot.
At NAMM, a lot of "boutique" builders(Soldano, Friedman, Diezel, Morgan, etc.) share the same booth space, so it was probably one of the closest guitars handy. Soldano was literally a few steps away from Friedman.
be good if there was a professional guitarist to put it through its paces instead of a few bar chords. That doesn't give the slo 30 a fair chance to shine.
I bought used Mesa Road king for 2300$ head only...with four channels and so many features I don't know what to do with them...4000$ for Soldano just doesn't make any sense whatsoever......or any other 4000$ dollars amps like Parker...etc...
Wak Job WELL SAID !! So many Idiots out there !! If you are thinking about the money and the cost, then you should just give up playing guitar forever. It ain’t about the money !!
Another product for lawyers and doctors. The day that somebody will think towards all those struggling musicians out there, the earth will stay still. It;s been a bad year for vacuum tubes, that's why they have become so expensive.
So who the hell is making Soldano amps. Better be hot naked genius goddesses for that kinda money. But really if Mr. Soldano isn't making them who is. But these 2 amps look like they kick major A$$
Crunch mode CH1 on the Soldano is SOOOOOO underrated! It's like a cross between a Marshall and a Matchless. I LOVE IT!
Michael Nielsen Agreed! For me it’s every bit as good as the OD channel. Versatile and hits all the classic tones with a feel that is uniquely Soldano.
Is it much different to the X88R CH2 that you’re not crazy about?
Crunch Agreed? Is that you buddy?
It does sound really great
YES!! that's the tone i love with strats/teles/single coil pickups. Marshall/Matchless hybrid is great description.
Wow! Worth every penny when you consider how it’s made and the life long knowledge put into the design. Loving that SLO 30!
Some of the best amps out there! Been a fan since 1990.

I thought I could tell how proud of that amp Mr. Soldano was. Wish it was something I could afford.
The 30 watt amp is pretty amazing!
That's a great little amp. Wish I could afford it.

Soldano , that was that Boutique Amp Builder in the 90´s when it came up , everybody was talking about it ..Great to see them Back ..
That Amp sounds AMAZING !
Just sold my Hot Rod 50 and got a fantastic deal on a used SLO-30. Didn’t think I’d ever sell the hot rod but it was well worth it.
Wow, the 30 watt is awesome, but sadly at that price it’s a lottery win amp for me :-/
Wow probably the best thing I’ve seen from NAMM this year. Cheers to epiphone for getting some love finally, but i don’t care either.
Wow! That 30 had me drooling.
That Price is more Epic than the amp is! Sweet, but that $2400 price tag isn't.
Maybe if I can pick one up used later on. Definitely more than I want to spend.
I know $2400 crazy ...

Very cool to see Soldano carrying on! Would love to have one but they're just too expensive so I will just stick with my SLO modded Jet City.
The Hot Rod 50 Plus is the best sound I’ve ever heard. A friend had the head and matching 2X12 cab. Amazing tone!
Fantastic Phil, great amp, great guitar, enjoyed the riffs too.
sounds beautiful!
Do they still have a transferrable LIFETIME warranty ? Unheard of with any other amp manufacturer

Yeah but now they aren't made by Soldano. I bet the old ones command a premium even if the new ones are awesome/better.
@@thephotoyak They will No doubt
Some of the best amps ever! Someday I'll be able to afford one of those! Thanks for sharing Phil! You ROCK! 😎🎸🐦

Ya, a Marshall studio vintage 20 is $1800, not much cheaper... so people are just being people.

Exactly. When you play an SLO, you understand why people will pay any price. Nothing sounds like it and I'm a MESA / Boogie guy. =D
I wouldnt trade my marshall for it
Depends on which Marshall... ;-)
These new SLO 100 heads have become the best Soldanos with the new post master fx loop.
Really nice amps!!
Will 30 watts be loud enough for a band. Im considering getting this amp next year
Does the band use a PA?!
I bet it will be, i have a mark 35 i am sure it will keep up with any drummer
The Matrix speaker grill cloth is killer!
I wouldn't spend that on an amp full stop, they sound good but not 4.5 times better than the average retail amp
Yeah that price is ludicrous!
4.5 times the price of what? Marshall 20W studio heads are $1300 on sale, regular $1800... I think you need to check your math.
The quality is way better than Marshall and it's made in the U.S. The SLO has also always had a life time transferable warranty. Where is the Marshall made? Warranty? It cost a little more not 4.5 times the price and also you get what you pay for quality wise.

Great amp. That last squeal was insane!
I'm putting $50 a month away for that 30 watter.
gotta at least try it....some day.
Gonna take you 4 years to save for that amp at $50 a month
awesome video - legendary amps
That overdrive channel !!!

A dream amp would be this same amp with just the crunch channel, priced at 1500

Who makes Soldano now?
Morgan amps I think.

This is my next amp
Sounds good!
This will be my next amp... period.
Take me back home !
The legend, Soldano and... sweaty guy.
Gonna grab the 100!
Phil demoing a Soldano with a Friedman guitar? lol

I would be playing early 90s Van Halen if I had one of those amps.
It was like the amp was just waiting for that pinch harmonic hahaha!
Nice Amp But if i cant get feedback its not for me.
Thanks for designing the Jet City 333. 20H. Classic, Beast, a steal.
Nicest "Clean" I've heard in years..... Best, Pete.
It's already been said but they need to hear it again. TOO MUCH MONEY!!!
How much do they run for?
If you are thinking about the money and the cost, then you should just give up playing guitar forever. It ain’t about the money !! So shut up !!

Way expensive though almost 3k for a 30 watt amp.
May as well buy a high gain amp from Mesa, EVH, Marshall...same tones are achievable at 1/2-2/3 the cost. WAY OVER VALUED.
You obviously haven't played with an SLO yet, so you are forgiven for your ignorance.
gpapa31 exactly. Well put.
I've had a '92 SLO since '95. Nothing touches it. I can't wait to get a 30, so I can play it in my house!
