I'm enthralled. I have legitimate questions about how this ritual dance is governed. In other words, who is charged with doing what, how is this decided upon? At the start of this session it appears that there was either confusion about who would lead the ritual, or no one jumped at the chance to lead. That is, until a shorter stocky guy with dark hair and a widow's peak wearing a bright royal blue cap with a pink or lilac circle atop the tasseld headpiece is either volunteered by a buddy to his right or perhaps it was just his turn. At this point he and his fellow devotees are kneeling in the inner most circle. You can see this at about 2:17 into the session. Does anybody know who he is? I've watched enough of these rituals to have become familiar with some of the mens faces. It appears that at this size of ritual there are recurring members. Despite getting the ritual started, he sort of joins the rest of the guys, until he's yanked out to the side by a different group of vocalists against the wall and not part of the rotating-stomping horde. This occurs at about 26:23 into the session. I really wish I was privy to the nature of the chant engaged in throughout, which seems to wax and wane in energy. I' really appreciate the sound they routinely accomplish as the stomp in unison, shifting their weight from left to right and raising their knees higher and higher. I'm not sure what faith they ascribe to, and I have none but I would love to join them. Also, where are the women? In their absence, this male-only ritual has an air of homoeroticism present. I hope this observation is not offensive, that's not the intent. In this day an age with all forms of hate and intolerance abound globally, the fact that you can get a sizable group of men together to engage in dance in really close quarters is as awe inspiring.as it is captivating.
