Hi sir, how many chains should i aim for 9 markers, 12 markers, 16-20 markers and 25 markers. Thanks for the constant replies you are helping a lot sir i appreciate it
I'd always advise two points/chains for an AQA student. The trick is to make the chains of analysis longer as the questions increase in marks and add conclusion for the longer questions. Not sure if you've seen this exemplar, but even on a 25 marker, note how there are still only two points and chains of analysis. I think this is a very useful resources www.tutor2u.net/business/reference/competitive-advantage-in-mass-markets-aqa-a-level-business-paper1-example-25-mark-essay
Yes - 5 for each point. Aim for 5 (remember, 5 is just an arbitrary number I tell my students - this is not something the exam board have suggested), but if you can make chains longer than that then go for it, especially once a question is worth 20+. Also, don't be afraid to address both positive and negative consequences in your chains. For example, in a chain you might make a point, give a chain of positive impacts and then give a 'however, it could also lead to these negatives...'
in terms of 5 chains would that be 5 it leads to so 1 thing leads to this which means this, this, this , this and this being 5 then another being another 5
This is the best exam tip video I've ever watched, thanks a lotttt!! And sir if the analysis part is for 4 marks, how many points should I give because I'd have to follow through each point right so that itself would fetch me a lot of marks... So how many points exactly?
Hello i just started studying A level Business Edexcel and on my first mock I got 28/30 but the thing is I analyse a lot and keep adding a lot of extra points in an 8 marker we just did in class. Any tips on how to keep questions short and well analysed?
I still have one question though that when analysis is asked for something particular like , analyse the benefits or analyse the negative impacts . When they specifically mention what we have to analyse how should we be framing the answer? Should we stick with just the benefits or limitations asked in the question or add the opposites?
So if i take a point and continue to give chains of analysis like you said upto to 5 next impacts it could have and should i do the same for all the analytical ideas i gues it will be pretty long how many marks do you think will be awarded if one single ideas is alone developed to an extent will i get a all the analysis marks available for that question by only exploring one single analytical idea?
I like your videos, they're professional and clear, perhaps animations could be added to improve the quality of videos however. Your previous videos mentioned that you have made a video on conclusions, have you issued this yet?
Thank you for the positive feedback. More exam skills videos will be released soon, including ones on how to structure conclusions. Good luck in your exams.
Hi sir, for some questions if they ask why Asos has better market capitalisation would you use this logical chain of analysis even even if it doesn't fully link with the question but then use the hook to make it relevant. I don't sometimes it feels as if I go off in a tangent, and just randomly link back to the question.
I think it is important that you give a chain of analysis that is linked to the point you are making - which in turn is relevant to the question that was asked. The problem of going off on tangents is a common one, but one you should try to avoid. Try to show the examine a real clear line of logic between the question, your point and the chain of consequences you offer.
I am so blessed to discover your channel today. But I wanted to know how many chains of analysis should I include for my 8marks and 12marks questions?Im basically OCR Alevel student
I don't teach OCR myself, so your teacher could probably better advise, though I would say for questions that are evaluative you need two separate points with chains of analysis that are 5 links long.
Sir i have a question basically i am talking from perspective of A levels (paper 3 of business) for example if i have to attempt a 16 mark question how many points (of knowledge) and chains of Analysis ( for each point of knowledge ) you would suggest/advise (as per your experience) me to go for ?
For a typical question I would make two points - one point for and one against. I would try to write chains of analysis where I aim for five links in the chain.

Hi, I am sitting a business studies exam tomorrow and I was just wondering, if a 8 mark question is giving me 4 marks for analysis would it be a good idea for me to do 4 chains of analysis or only do 2 analysis points and then do 2 chains of analysis?
I'm not sure which exam board you follow, so check this advice with your teacher, but I wouldn't advise 4 separate chains of analysis in an 8 mark question. Two points, each analysed well, should be sufficient. Hope this helps. Good luck in the exam!
Unless I was answering a 25 mark question, I wouldn't have another 3 points. I'd have one well analysed point agreeing with the question/setting out one side of the argument and a well analysed point setting out an alternative side of the argument. Then I'd have a conclusion.

Such a hard question to answer - it's based on case studies but they really could ask any topic from the spec.
