    Brilliant! You've demystified left-indent, first line left-indent and how to soft return for me :) Thank you very very muchly!

    Thanks so much....for the life of me I couldn't find how to add spacing between bulleted text sections! Now if I can just remember how to do it again in the future!

    Thank you, this was helpful. I do a lot of technical documents with bullet points and I do fight with them. I would love to see a video on alternatives to the traditional bullet point lists. I personally hate bullet points and would appreciate a designer's view on alternate ways of presenting the information. Thoughts?

      I'm glad it was helpful for you, tangled! :) It depends on the amount of information, sometimes lines can be great to separate information, as well as more illustrative icons

    Mahalo for the video. Why not do inset spacing on the text box, and set the background color instead of a transparent text box over a color box? You can set the precise "padding" around the text.

      You absolutely could. With many adobe products, there's a ton of different ways to get similar results. Thanks for sharing a good option!

    I'm a little embarrassed to say that I've been in the creative industry for over 7 years and bulleted lists are just something I haven't done often (I haven't had to use them). This video has been a godsend lately.

    I keep seeing the same advice for hanging indents to line everything up, but it just isn't working. What is happening that my second lines keep lining up under the bullet/number rather than the first line text?

      Hi Allison, it's hard for me to pinpoint the issue without seeing it. My only guess without seeing it is that the increment is off or the alignment. Sorry I can't be more help

    • @tubeondahriver
      @tubeondahriver 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is exactly my issue, and I'm not sure which increment alignment correction tool rectifies this. Unfortunately, too, I am straining myself to see the specific adjustment icons in the sidebar Jess (who undoubtedly has experience designing with InDesign) motions towards, and each time she says "right?" and moves on to the next icon quickly, I have to stop and rewind the segment over and over to follow, lol. Goodness, I'm grateful for the extra assistance with tutorials when there's a single thing I've got to correct, but this is now adding frustration, lol!

    I wanted to like this but couldn't: those of us who are completely self taught have no idea how you opened the leading menu or what to find it under.

      Hi Billy, I’m sorry to hear you were unable to follow the cursor. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there’s anything you’d like to see in future videos

    Very useful video. Somehow I'm following everything in this recipe but my indentation is not working for me. I've had to resort to the TAB key on my macbook pro to get what I want but that is a temporary fix. I really want to master this lesson.

    If a "designer" doesn't know the difference between leading and paragragh spacing-they are not a designer. This is design 101. You litteraly learn this in the first semester.

    • @JessicaGarrity
      @JessicaGarrity  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @whiskyo, thank you for taking the time to comment!
      I would respectfully disagree that someone is not a designer if they don't know difference between leading and paragraph spacing (although it is very helpful to learn)
      I've met and worked with some incredibly talented designers that are still learning a lot of design terms. Many of them were self taught, or did not have a formal education, but this didn't make them any less successful in the field. Even without knowing the terms, the designers have been skilled in other design areas such as creating strong compositions, illustrations, building dynamic layouts, etc. We are all always, learning, growing, and getting even better as designers

    Thanks Jessica! I was searching everywhere to find this information. Google is amazingly inefficient at bringing up search results for formatting bullets in InDesign, at least the way I wanted to format them. You hit on EXACTLY what I needed to know. It took a lot of searching, but I finally found what I needed in your video. Now I'm a subscriber.

    What do you do when you have bullet points in a brochure or magazine layout that has text flowing through multiple columns or jumping across pages?

    • @JessicaGarrity
      @JessicaGarrity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Do you not want the bullet points in the text?

    • @tubeondahriver
      @tubeondahriver 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent question. I was hoping perhaps to learn the same answer. Jess's explanations of functions is FANTASTIC and so appreciated, but the visual demonstration is incredibly challenging to follow.

    How do I get Bullets and numbering? It doesn't appear when I reset the settings

    • @JessicaGarrity
      @JessicaGarrity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Did you try resetting the workspace, with "Essentials" selected? Then, go ahead and create a text frame with text in it. Select that text within the frame, and you should see "bullets" in the properties panel
