Highly detailed comments are definitely just grad students who are procrastinating a big paper that's due in a few hours. When I was in law school, there were tons of nights when I couldn't bring myself to write anything with actual consequences, but you could find me all up in the comments on true crime videos - just going balls to the wall - explaining criminal procedure or whatever to people who don't understand why someone would plead "Not Guilty" after already confessing to the cops. Just a bunch of nerds with more important things to do. I'd rather be a bot, tbh.
"The whole world at your fingertips, the ocean at your door" "The quiet comprehending of the ending of it all" Some lyrics from "That Funny Feeling" by Bo Burnham This discussion, and that comment that spawned it, are really perfectly encapsulated by that song. I sobbed the first time I heard it, though I'm sure that being in the middle of COVID isolation also made it hit harder. But I hadn't seen the Andreeson tweet or comment and I got chills when Cody read it. That is absolutely how the world feels right now, and I think it truly crystalized around 2015/2016-and no I don't think Trump was the cause, just a very obvious sign that things had gone deeply sideways. Love you two, thanks for all the laughs and the healthy dose of existential dread. I hope humanity pulls out of the nosedive. At least the "exciting" thing is that we'll all get to witness the end, or witness the start of a golden age. Really feels like there won't be any in-between.
It feels like we're on an exponential curve that started slowly around the industrial revolution, then picked up in intensity with the atomic bomb, began arcing sharply upwards with the internet, and hit escape velocity with AI. And now we're all along for this ride that will end pretty quickly either in utopia or cataclysm. Good thing we have very well-adjusted selfless people capable of long-term thinking in places of power and influence guiding us through these trying times (jk jk I fucking hate it here)
I moved to a walkable city and being outside on foot all the time helps relieve the anxiety of going outside. being in cars makes u feel isolated and running into someone is more shocking
A lot of people may disagree with me but I think it’s time we recognize how much damage social media does to very young children and have some laws to protect kids from the harm WE KNOW it does. I hope the younger generation puts their foot down (I’m 23)
It'd be beneficial to consider social media to be a tool. When used in certain ways it help people, but it also sometimes has bad consequences. Social media will never go away and will always be a part of society. All we can really do is be very careful in how we teach the youth how to use it.
I now only use Twitter through my phone’s browser as opposed to the app, because I can add extensions to the browser that blocks algorithm content. Best decision. I use Twitter maybe an hour a WEEK now, and it’s so much better for my mental health…
That tweet talking about how everyone has that weird feeling of being on hold or whatever. I saw that exact comment, verbatim, on Reddit hahaha is it a copypasta? Hahaha
HAHA yet another funny clip from an episode of my favorite podcast, TMG featuring Cody Kolodziejzyk and Noel Miller!

quite possibly the most Polish last name ever
cody college essay
Noel dropping “netizens” like a Gen X Filipino facebook user

I’ve been off social media a few months. It helps mental clarity, but still feeling the doomed feeling at 24yrs old
Your commenting on a TH-cam video??
It’s a miracle
I took a month long break on Social Media once but it still felt like I was online because everyone was using phrases from TikTok and Twitter LOL
Same, it feels like it's impossible to get off of it because if you're not physically on it everyone else is
