This I think was my highest climb ever until I did some hiking in Scotland. Luckily for me it was mid Summer so it was warm and clear all day to Alston the views from the top of Cross Fell was amazing, only beaten by a cup of Coffee at Greggs Hut and the slow decent into the village. Great series of videos. I don't know how far you are on the PW, but if you are not yet at Bellingham and are planning to camp there, I consider that the first camping site you come to is nicer than the one in the village. You also need to stock up on food here as well, the last shopping opportunity before you get to Kirk Yetholm.
You did well Christina walking to Alston in daylight hours, you must have got your head down, that track from Greg's hut to Garrigill seems like it's never ending, it's a pity you had no views from Cross Fell, if clear you can see over to the Lake District, you went upmarket last night getting scampi rather than a fish, hope you enjoyed.
I got psyched out when the guide book said that this was the hardest day, when it was no harder than every other day and by the time you're doing cross fell you're trail fit anyway. Cross fell is frustrating because of the false summits and the weather up there can be unique. I was glad to get to Alston though. No doubt you'll have done the ups and down of hadrians wall today and be in Greenhead and you have almost finished. Just Bellingham, Byrness and the cheviots ( hut 2 is a good stopping point ) and your kissing the wall of the border hotel.
When you get to Byrness if lucky the Forest View Hotel might be open and you can camp there as well. This place is so well known to PW hikers. If not the local caravan site has a spot for campers, you will pass this site before getting to Forest View.

Have to say that I didn't like the music on this video, rather sombre and foreboding, didn't match your cheerful persona. Looked like a long hard walk and not much to look either in the mist, a hard working day.
@@hikersheep Yes I understand, it actually did convey the dread and slightly spooky atmosphere very well. I hope the sun sines for the rest of your PW, I'm enjoying the videos. Thank you. Can I ask what umbrella you carry and if you would recommend it, I've never carried one but I thought I might for the West Highland Way which I'm planning for next year.
Well done Christina! Cross Fell is a beast. And it looked so forlorn. You did really well. The music pick was again excellent!
A hard days walking but you smashed it Christina your daily videos will be a great help for anyone thinking of walking the pennine way.
Morning christina, hope you're up and about for an early start, loving Yr trek on the pennine way, done it myself a few times. 😊

The road leads to the Weather reporting station on the top of Great Shunners Fell. From there its all downhill.

@@howardmcknight9773 thats right. I walked so fast and on auto-pilot
I’ve noticed you’ve omitted mentioning the very long and tedious track walk from Greg’s hut to Garrigill. 😂
I’m enjoying your videos
@davidherdman6181 it was nothing special. Long and boring .. i got into auto-pilot walking fast and forgot to film
Yes, I noticed that too! 😂

Thank you so much. This is helpful. Forest View is closed
By the side of my PC sits a small piece of Quartz I found on my way down from Greggs Hut that I took on all my Hikes after doing my First Pennine Way.
Kristina ROCKS! No pun intended. (well, not much )
Great days work! Pity you missed some stunning views (available next April, maybe)

There are places on the Pennine Way where waterproof socks are so useful, I always carry a pair with me, I dislike wet feet.
I dont mind wet feet. :)
Ooohh..I'm late...already 26 minutes and about 64 views

@wandering_not_lost the music reflected how i felt surrounding the fells where it was cold, windy and misty. And how i dreaded the constant uphill. :)
