  • On today’s show, how Charley Boorman, the son of a legendary film director and friend to the man who played Obi-Wan Kenobi, went from being a house painter, to somehow launching a television career that’s lasted almost 2 decades... all as the guy who rides motorcycles around the world for fun.
Welcome to the We Do Hard Things Podcast, the show about facing fears, taking big risks, and chasing down dreams - hosted by Mark Drager.
    - - - - - - -
Charley Boorman is an adventure-addicted English television host, travel writer, and actor. Best-known for the Long Way… series where he and his friend, Ewan McGregor ride around different parts of the world on their motorbikes.
The first show in the series was called Long Way Round - where they rode 31,000km through Europe and Asia, flew to Alaska, and continued by road to New York. They did this on BMWs in 2004.
Then the second trip was called Long Way Down where they rode from the northern tip of Scotland to Cape Town in South Africa. That was in 2007.
Recently, they did another trip called Long Way Up where they rode from the southern tip of South America to Los Angeles. But doing that trip on their trusty BMWs… well, that must have been too easy because they decided to make things a bit harder by undertaking the trip on electric Harley Davidson motorcycles.
In this episode Charley and Mark talk about growing up in a creative family, why Charley was painting houses for a living, how the whole Long Way… series kicked off, and the many things one thinks about while on a long ride.

Loved that part about interruptions being the journey, never thought of that before but it’s so true. It’s those distractions and challenges that you remember. Wow what a story and what a journey from Charley never watched that show but sounds amazing. Thank you Mark for helping us distill the lessons from this inspiring conversation! #wedohardthings
