Yes and no, on the Walmart buys the land part. I remember multiple times the local Walmart tried to move in and tried to get the city to pay for everything (zoning, building, etc) which is bullshit
I went back to school shopping a few years ago with my niece and nephew. Elmer's glue at CVS was made in the USA, while Elmer's glue at Walmart was made in China. I bought a TracFone from Walmart and it was made in China. I accidentally broke that phone. Saw the same phone at Dollar General and it was around $5 cheaper. It was made in Mexico. Things are also sketchy with tires and oil filters from Walmart.
Walmart is NOT an amazing company. If u ever go on and what I want is not on the shelf it’s most likely they couldn’t afford to have anyone pick it from the stock room and put it on the shelf to be sold
+Ben Chesterman Walmart can raise their wages and not raise their prices at all or just raise them by Pennies on the dollar and that will make up for the loss from wages.
+sajfen let me guess because they have to give every cent of the leftover profits to their investors? that excuse really gets old when the people actually doing work can barely keep their heads above water and we have to subsidize them with food stamps.
my brother works there: they force him to skip lunch, work off the clock and work on equipment he isn't trained on...and that's not just his store, there are tons and tons of complaints filed with them. Some people work there because it's one of their few options.
Ever since when I was eight years old, I was a regular Walmart shopper, but now I started going less often because of the stressful atmosphere and sometimes poor service. Like months ago I was up there in the Electronics dept looking to replace my Roku and somehow it was locked in a cage so I had to stand in line for nearly ten minutes(That's right, TEN MINUTES!!!) trying to ask someone to get the Roku for me so I can pay for it at the counter. After a frustrating ten minute wait, my father who was with me said the hell with it and decided to go to Best Buy. On the other hand, at Best Buy it was just "grab and go". Easy, right? Why in the heck you have to stand in line for nearly ten minutes just to ask for someone to open the cage for smaller items like flash drives and such!!??? WHY!!!??? Their Electronics policies are UTTER CRAP! What is worse, is that when I call them and ask for Electronics to see if a certain item is in stock, I would have to wait for between 10 and 20 minutes for someone in that department to pick up the phone! I have done this many times all with frustrating results. No wonder people complain of poor service at Walmart. Despite all of this, I will still shop at Walmart for basic necessities like food, and some art stuff(I am a beginners artist, btw, most of the supplies are bought from Michaels). But when it comes to Electronics, I would shop at either Best Buy or Target. At Target, I wonder if some of the smaller items like SD cards, pack of DVDs, and flash drives are locked in the cage like Walmart does...
You don't think the employees of Walmart were benefited by being offered employment opportunities there? Why did they accept their jobs if the offers made them worse off? And what exactly are you proposing? New laws mandating that people whose skills do not produce a certain amount per hour should not be allowed to sell their labor at all?
The issue is the federal reserve printing effects everything, lots of these big business hugely benefit from it. The main reason why people have a yucky feeling about the rich today
Amazon is even more successful and I like it. Walfart is soulless and soul crushing. Quality means little and my time means NOTHING to them bc those things don't matter to their customers. Once made trivial money transfer and it took more time than the money involved, I was the ONLY one in line who gave a damn about wasted time.
Part of the reason it is hated is because it moves us toward homogeneity. There was a time you could go to a different town, and they would be selling unique product.
Yeah, very good point. The outcomes shouldn't be only about profit and outcompeting. Markets are efficient systems, but there are values that won't be addressed merely by their use.
There are lots of reasons to love or hate Wal Mart. I agree with the host here, but I also despise their strong-arm tactics with their suppliers. I also think WM would NOT exist as it now does without the great infrastructure we have in this country and should not meddle in politics or culture.
they see the truth in how unions are nowadays. Cheap prices, amazing logistics, cheap products that don't last long, and they pay their people a wage that cannot be livable. You try living on 7.25/hour.
Great points! I also think society's hatred of Walmart is very much related to society's hatred of poor people. Poor people shop at Walmart; death by association. Classism at its finest.
Sam Walton was not about importing cheap junk from China. He wanted the chain to grow the US economy, not the trade deficit. Ayn Rand says that the US government allows certain monopiles to exist. Walmart is one of those monopolies. In the early years of Walmart, they placed most of their stores in small towns with less than 10,000 people. They ran a lot of the "mom & pop" stores out of business. I wouldn't have an issue if they were in areas where they competed with other large chain stores. My biggest issue is in order to compete with Walmart its competitors had to change to the same business model. This is why so many goods are now imported. Walmart is part of the reason free trade with China was pushed by the former governor of Arkansas Bill Clinton. At one point in time, Hillary Clinton was on the board of directors.
He's wrong here. Most people do not dislike companies merely for being successful. There are plenty of highly successful U.S. companies that most people like The main reason people dislike Walmart is because Walmart has repeatedly had incidents where managers treated employees poorly when compared to how almost every other U.S. company would treat them in similar circumstances. Anyone paying attention to the news realizes this. There was a boycott against Walmart because of this a while ago. I think this did eventually lead Walmart to train there managers better and to introduce better policies (not see of that), but many of the employee stories left people disliking the company..
I have a question. I am a strong believer in free trade and free markets, but I have heard this criticism about importing goods from China and other low-cost countries, and I'd like to hear your response. This criticism applies to WalMart as well as any US importers: What if part of the reason China and other countries can produce goods at a much lower price is because they have much laxer pollution regulations, lower requirements for worker's health and safety, no restrictions on child labor, etc, etc.? Is it fair, right, or in the long-term interest of the world engage in this type of free trade? Let's just assume for the sake of argument that the U.S's pollution regulations and other regulations are 100% unanimously agreed by the U.S. population and let's assume that the main cost difference from importing is due to these other countries bypassing these regulations. Thanks.
Have you ever had a job in your life? If so, your "labor" was owned by an employer (at least for the hours you worked and were paid for). Owners of business's have just as much of a right to make a profit as they do to lose money if their enterprise fails! The only thing an employee is owed are the benefits and pay they agreed to when they were hired! Would you be willing to share the "risk" as well as the profit, if it meant that you would work without pay when there is no profit?
Employees share the risk. We know at my company that if we work badly we will get canned or the company will tank. Wjat is good for my company is good for me and that feeling among staff raises attainment. We are all working to be the best in our sector. We want to excel and its one of the reasoms i work my arse off.
I understand where you're coming from and I'm trying to take into account the social and phenomenological implications. That said. they're forced through lack of other options. It's intellectually negligent to say walmart is hated because they're successful.
Listen to this man. His words are easily verified. You can buy a 40" television for just over $300, as where the lesser brand at mom and pop's store is over $900. These kinds of discounts are a no brainer.
@@hauntedvoice526 Did you ever see the "60 Minutes" piece on Walmart's interview practices for companies to sell their wares? Saving a buck is top priority, brother h.v. Every Walmart I know of, whether city or rural has "police parking only" signs to haul off the shoplifters. People forfeit "everlasting life" over the most stupid sins. Christ came to save, not condemn. All who will be lost condemn themselves, bro.
Not exactly. Envy is a good thing in a competition environment because if we don't pay attention to what the competitor is doing to have success and try to do it better, we lose out clients. This is a good aspect of envy. The bad aspect is when the competitor can't win the leading company (like Walmart) and tries to eliminate the company using the government and the crony captalism using goverment intervention, law bills and so on.
If you believe that the general consumers are willing to pay more in order to get better services then Wal-mart, then by all means, you open either start your own business that works under that model, or try and sell that idea to investors. That is the beauty of the market. People vote with their money and there is always an opportunity cost. And so far, it seems that most are willing to accept worst service in exchange for cheaper prices.
The "right to collectively bargain" in the public sector isn't the right to collectively bargain, it's the false "right" to collectively blackmail society and the false "right" to expropriate funds from people, using people with guns and cages to do it, to "pay" people above market equilibrium wages, determined by their capricious whim and greed.
Walmart has over 100 Billion in profits a year, its owners have 75 billion each, and you are saying its workforce are the greedy ones for asking for more than poverty level pay which would only cost about a penny an item to raise to $15 an hour working full time with benefits. Wow.
So why has so many Walmart stores closed if they are that successful? I don't hate them because of its success, I hate them because managers defend bad associates that treat customers like dirt and team leaders verbally abuse associates who do try to do the right thing. I hate Walmart because they won't enforce masks requirements. I hate Walmart because it make changes for the worst. And I know I'm not the only one that hates Walmart in my city. Someone set fire in the back of the store several years ago. And I read in the police report where a bomb threat was reported just today.
The thing I don't like about Wal-Mart is that the boxes on the shelves tend to be beat up. But I'd rather deal with that than Target's psychotic politics.
"Hate" is a strong term, so maybe it's more of a generally dislike that most people have. I'm a strong proponent of Wal-Mart for many reasons. But, if other companies can do the same thing Wal-Mart does and pay more, I'm all for that, too. Free markets: power to the workers, consumers, and businesses!
I think Wal-Mart pays too little. They should want to pay their employees more. I'm actually not sure how they stay so successful while paying as little as they do. The employees at Wal-Mart SUCK for the most part. And it's because many of them don't care about their jobs. They aren't getting much out of their time working other than the paycheck. Most don't advance past entry level jobs and many turn over very quickly and service sucks because of that. PAY MORE! Get better workers!
Some of the hatred is not because people don't like the poor. It is because Walmart specifically targets the poor ( a captive money source ) who buy goods with our tax dollars that then go to Walmart and the big whigs of Walmart. I tend to call it welfare mart not because of the people on welfare but that Walmart wants those on welfare to buy from them. Kind of a guaranteed market. Walmart does have the right but you know, those big box stores suck the life out of the local economies of those little towns in which they setup up. Our little town is nothing more than a gas stop as people pass through. No one stops to buy except from those big box stores and only a few locals actually work for those big box stores. Most who work there are not locals. Even those locals that do work for Walmart are also on welfare to supplement their incomes. Walmart has a captive source of income. I don't think it is as good for local economies as some may think even though they do have a right to set up shop. Ive seen so many small towns just go away because of all the big box stores and businesses that locals can not compete against. They are pushed out of a livelihood. Truth is truth. Most of the money goes out and away from those little towns. Pushes more and more people into the big cities like a feed lot of cattle.
I am for free markets and very small governments but there can be a heavy cost to local economies when we have a few super huge big box stores. Amazon for instance totally takes from local economies but we continue to utilize them as more and more small local stores can no longer keep the inventory or even get an inventory because of the big boxes.
Walmart can sometimes sell superior electronic accessories. However I have caught them selling electronics that are one year behind in technology, which is what has allowed them to have a price lower than competition. But that is not necessarily bad for many people. They have improved labor practices in the last twenty years. They are king in rapid deployment and rapid distribution of inventory. They learn what sells and what doesn’t and move rapidly to cut their losses. In recent years I have observed the store I go to stop selling live fish and under glass jewelry, while modifying their layout to harden themselves from shrinkage. They adapt and they survive. For this reason it is not surprising that they will soon overtake Amazon. People laughed when Walmart first said they were going to sell groceries. Now they sell more groceries than anybody. So I don’t laugh when they make a big decision, but I do buy their stock when laughter is at a maximum on any big decisions they make.
Personal atttacks are logical fallacies. Getting over oneself if selfless, ie, immoral. Your morality of destruction as an end in itself is noted. Say hi to Hitler.
Yes, they're popular for the goods and services they provide, but all successful companies are maligned morally by almost everyone in society. It is precisely because they are successful that people feel they can get away with moralizing against them so harshly. They're called profiteering, greedy, exploiters for making all our lives better.
The problem is that people are not to work at wall-mart all their lives. You gain skills and move on to higher paying jobs. Just like MCDonalds and teens working there. It isn't to be your life's goal.
I stopped a crime in the store and now I am the one to look at? been HARASS NOW BEING watched and now I am pissed my lawyer is going to help with the HARASSMENT! WE ARE GOING TO SET THEM UP IN THIS TOWN.
There success is based entirely upon the trade deficit of the US. Sam Walton started the company with dedication to America's manufacturing. This guy is misrepresenting the big picture
10 years ago I would think Walmart is shallow, gives artificial goods and devalue workers ..yet the more I look on economics of private enterprise, freedom of choice and the reality of supply and demand, the more I see laissez-faire capitalism is a brilliant means for individual freedom. I the simple reason why Walmart is hated because people see small shops being outsold and the view of big businesses are bad for competition, while in reality it's stoping the successful to innovate and keeping individuals the same to everyone, making a incredibly dull and miserable life style. Over the years I've grown to respect Walmart, same way as Asda and Amazon.
@guy man I'm only saying I respect business more then I did years ago, during the 2000s, small or big. Number of documentaries like super size me, Walmart and sickco are cynical and satires on big businesses and privatisation healthcare. I mean no ill to you or any economic expert to Capitalism, I'm still learning on it so I do not mean to upset you sir, simply making a perspective comment.
@guy man Also I have no ill to Jeff Bezos how he runs his company, or Bill Gates or once Steve jobs and what these men do with their company, what they do is their business. If you have issue how the state is bedded with money, as well state interventions then I understand your point, as I have more issues with politicians interfering the free market, I'm just less cynical to business then I was years ago, I do dislike political correctness in companies, like its infectious spread to art in films/tv, I still have a choice to invest or not my time and money.
@guy man I didn't say amarica is a laissez-faire capitalism,as I am aware like uk, is a heavily mixed economy country, full of red tap and excessive taxation, much like uk. I'm only seeing the possative of elements what Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs did that kickstarter the economy of the tech industry, by innovation and job growth. I am aware Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and even Elon Musk SpaceX and Tesla has been mix with politicians who kept interfering with these businessmen. I too would like the state to stop interfering Capitalism and I agree with you for pointing out the problems of businesses mixing with the state. You are correct sir.
You should boycott computers for destroying typewriters. And ballpoint pens for destroying quill pens. And tractors for destroying animal plows. You should boycott the mind for its power to continually better man's life. Or you could simply confess your hatred of individual achievement.
Walmart is great because when one is built in an area, generally, the other stores drop their prices to compete. I don't shop at the Walmart in my area because it's an awful shopping experience (horrible employees), but I don't have to. Plus, I can save more money shopping at Costco and Aldi and even Kroger in many cases.
He misses one key point: Wal-Mart improves the lives of the poor by providing them with opportunities for career advancement. Unlike union jobs where you are stuck in one job for 30 years and it is the union's job to negotiate raises for you, or government welfare, which keeps you in poverty, Wal-Mart promotes from within and 80% of Wal-Mart management used to be hourly employees. The CEO of Wal-Mart started out in a Wal-Mart warehouse job as an hourly employee.
I said, "his many and grievous faults." Whats wrong w/taking back from the people? Consider all the govt looting in the name of the people. Kick the people over a cliff. Im waiting for the resurrection of the individual.
[[Greece would be better off as a socialist country.]] - Individuals are better off free with a government that secures individual rights, not slaves to either a national emperor, or a rule-by-majority mob society, i.e. socialism. Collectivism is where the collective is held as the primary value, i.e., where individuals are sometimes sacrificed for the "greater good" of the collective. But of course, no group of individuals are better off if that collective eats individuals that compose it.
This is why walmart has competitors such as Target and other chains. Walmart is not the only department store in the world and if you don't like the service you shop somewhere else. Clearly their game plan has some compromises to provide low prices, but that is entirely in the control in the consumer rather than relying on politicians to "correct" markets. It's unfortunate but establishing a "living wage" mandate only has only made entering the work force MORE difficult.
They are mutually exclusive in the context of either. In the context of capitalism, they are identical. Politics 101? I dont really get along with any authority beyond my own judgment. Most profs I met are clowns w/Ph.Ds. ARCTV is pretty good, tho.
Yaron's opinion on this video doesn't seem to support that. It suggests big faceless corporations are the way forward and we should all just be grateful they are around.
So youll sacrifice individual rights to remain intellectually paralyzed by the immediate moment, split from past and future? Sounds like a plan! Other people are not your responsibility. Take care of yourself and your desire to sacrifice will vanish like a bad dream.
But other people if you treat them badly will the source of lost quality staff, lost revenue, poor service, bad atmosphere in shops, no one will want to shop there. There is a responsibility we owe ourselves not to exploit or be exploited. Ayn Rand 101.
That you can buy stuff cheaper, and can therefore buy cheaper stuff, and more cheaper stuff is contrary to Rand's assertions. "Money demands that you sell, not your weakness to men's stupidity, but your talent to their reason; it demands that you buy, not the shoddiest they offer, but the best that your money can find. And when men live by trade-with reason, not force, as their final arbiter-it is the best product that wins," - Atlas Shrugged I submit that Walmart doesn't carry the best products, but the cheapest.
"the best that your money can find" Just because something is inexpensive doesn't mean it's cheap. Besides one should look for the best value for the money based on their needs. For example, I'm really into Computers and PC gaming so I spend $1200-$1500 on components when I build my own systems, but some one else my not have the same needs or wants when it comes to PCs so a $500, or less, machine from walmart may suit their needs, per dollar spent, than the PC I would choose. And a ton of the products they sell are the same products you'd get else where, like sundries.
Those billions will be invested in more production. Your short-range Pragmatism is irrational. Increased profits are the only cause of increased real wages because more firms will seek those profits by offering higher wages to keep and attract employees. This is the history of the industrial revolution relative to all prior history. This is true of markets, not of politically controlled production.
Marx & his liberal followers say mind is social, thus individualism is impractical. Identify context before claiming dishonesty. He's honest relative to his view of mind. His view of mind is dishonest, a rationalization for his evasion of his experience of control over his mind. Experiencing control of one's mind is a common human experience (excepting deep psychotics). This is not ad hominem. I judge his choices.
Judging from your profile, you're likely still in middle school, so I'll spare you for now. Note that if you're going to make public political comments you're opening yourself up for attack and you're clearly not ready for it. How did you get from Yugi Oh to this anyway?
I am frustrated by what appears to be a very naive opinion of walmart. You can simply go to the store form an opinion. Then go on the internet and inform yourself. And last but not least speak to businesses that have and do try to survive on making pennies selling to walmart. Best for the poor?? Wow I just think you are thinking in a bubble!! Because a business is successful does not make it good for society. I agree they have a right, but that is all. BTW I am a conservative, an Ayn Rand fan since 1976, and disliked walmart for 30 years. "Falling prices" walmart motto is not good for America. AND buying AMERICAN is good for America!!!!!!!!!!
Did you not listen to the video? Wal-Mart INCREASES the standard of living of people working there, and they are legion. If you want to help, start your own company. You want a government-imposed "utopia," which will end up destroying economic growth. Every time I hear someone is boycotting Wal-Mart I try to spend MORE money there. Gotta go to Wal-Mart...
My problem with Wal Mart is that they take tax subsidies from tax payers in a lot of cases. I have issue with subsidies.
Yes and no, on the Walmart buys the land part. I remember multiple times the local Walmart tried to move in and tried to get the city to pay for everything (zoning, building, etc) which is bullshit

My apologies, I've been spammed with petitions to that effect by supposed "whistleblowers," and I was hoping to get some clarification on the matter.
Albertsons is cheaper especially with their app better than Wal-Mart's app
Thanks. I enjoy learning and teaching wisdom.

Wow.
People as producers or as govt?
So why has so many Walmart stores closed if they are that successful? I don't hate them because of its success, I hate them because managers defend bad associates that treat customers like dirt and team leaders verbally abuse associates who do try to do the right thing. I hate Walmart because they won't enforce masks requirements. I hate Walmart because it make changes for the worst. And I know I'm not the only one that hates Walmart in my city. Someone set fire in the back of the store several years ago. And I read in the police report where a bomb threat was reported just today.
Pretty much, thanks. I also read some of your other comments here, and I found them to be a much-needed breath of fresh air.
Why would a witchdoctor interrupt his holy raving to debate heretics? His security team can handle such regrettable problems.
Say hi to Hitler.
as any other economical success, wallmart is popular....
It isn't to be your life's goal.
they dont have to work there then
Then get less people to shop there so they don't need such demand for labor
I stopped a crime in the store and now I am the one to look at? been HARASS NOW BEING watched and now I am pissed my lawyer is going to help with the HARASSMENT! WE ARE GOING TO SET THEM UP IN THIS TOWN.
They look at everyone your not so special thier losing over a billion somehow so of course thier going to watch people duh
There success is based entirely upon the trade deficit of the US.
Sam Walton started the company with dedication to America's manufacturing. This guy is misrepresenting the big picture
they hurt small companies
People seem sad there at walmart
No, its an idea from man's free will, not psychology.
I don't mind Walmart, but put tariffs on all foreign goods.
LOL, where in hell did they find Elmer Fudd to represent Wal Fart?
I always wondered this
If that were true than their employees would all quit, people would not shop there, and they would go bankrupt. Fortunately, that's not happening.
Wets just have a countwy of Walmart then who cawes
I guess Sgt. King of the Royal Mounties isnt available? What about individual rights? Or is that too radical?
Are you clarified now?
Explanation? Explanation! Walmart-haters don' need no steekin' explanation!
[[Greece would be better off as a socialist country.]]

Individuals are better off free with a government that secures individual rights, not slaves to either a national emperor, or a rule-by-majority mob society, i.e. socialism. Collectivism is where the collective is held as the primary value, i.e., where individuals are sometimes sacrificed for the "greater good" of the collective. But of course, no group of individuals are better off if that collective eats individuals that compose it.
Trade benefits all. Subsistence farming is bare survival.
I heart wal-mart.
people should control the market.
>greedy
Evades moral difference between rational and irrational values.
It doesnt do to be so greedy that you lose good and dedicated staff. Pay peanuts get monkeys.
@@Saltybuher Ford increased wages around 1920 to get the best employees.
Without evidence, your question is as if nothing has been said.
I love walmart
This is why walmart has competitors such as Target and other chains. Walmart is not the only department store in the world and if you don't like the service you shop somewhere else.
Clearly their game plan has some compromises to provide low prices, but that is entirely in the control in the consumer rather than relying on politicians to "correct" markets. It's unfortunate but establishing a "living wage" mandate only has only made entering the work force MORE difficult.
wall mart show americans how to be success in the future !! what ways should be done, they make hopes ...
Celebrate good times, come on!
Because it's run by commi's !
I'm humbled by my wit.
They are mutually exclusive in the context of either. In the context of capitalism, they are identical. Politics 101? I dont really get along with any authority beyond my own judgment. Most profs I met are clowns w/Ph.Ds. ARCTV is pretty good, tho.
First Job! Thanks Sams.
Self employed is the way!
@@Saltybuher Agreed, but you must first convince people to reject Original Sin for free will-created ideas.
envy is an ugly thing
Best comment on youtube ever.
And when men live by trade-with reason, not force, as their final arbiter-it is the best product that wins," - Atlas Shrugged
I submit that Walmart doesn't carry the best products, but the cheapest.
I already did before typing the above 3 years ago. I know far more about Walmart now than I did then, and I stand by my statement.
Low wages
You are quite welcome, sir. :)
So its Walmart or death? Then praise Walmart!
I spent all video hoping Yaron was going to say "haters gonna hate".
the poor work at walmart and shop there.
Im not pushing...
>unfair manipulation of system
Is this a revelation from the supernatural, perhaps Marx?
And last but not least speak to businesses that have and do try to survive
on making pennies selling to walmart.
Best for the poor?? Wow I just think you are thinking in a bubble!!
Because a business is successful does not make it good for society.
I agree they have a right, but that is all.
BTW I am a conservative, an Ayn Rand fan since 1976, and disliked walmart
for 30 years.
