  • When Silke Kind plays table tennis, she can almost forget she has Parkinson's. Sport seems to help slow down the disease.
In everyday life, the right side of Silke Kind's body is often stiff; she trembles when cutting vegetables or using the computer mouse. Table tennis training has a positive effect, says her physiotherapist. However there are hardly any scientific studies on how ping pong affects the symptoms of Parkinson's - the disease itself is incurable. In Germany, there are about 170 Ping Pong Parkinson's support points and the interest is growing.

Silke, you did an amazing job of articulating all of the challenges we face having been diagnosed with PD ! Similar to you, I am 11 years into this disease and playing ping pong has been life changing for me. It's important for people to understand how beneficial this game can be for us both physically and emotionally. We have made so many positive connections to people with Parkinson's both locally (for me in the USA) and internationally with people like you. Thank you for sharing this with the world !

I think that movement training would better equip people to deal with the effects of Parkinson's, even if it doesn't delay the onset of symptoms, because they will have all the usual benefits to strength, coordination, balance and mental health for as long as they are able to use them. It seems like a very good thing to promote, either way.

Good for dementia as well. Drumming can also provide a lot of multitasking and coordination in so many areas of the brain, there's nothing quite like it.

I knew someone with Parkinsons. They had a "special" surgery and took a cocktail of meds daily. All it done was give them more and more side effects and deteriorate their condition even more.
I strongly suggest CBD oil and music therapy instead.
