I always felt bad for the little old librarian in the beginning …. She’s just trying to live her best library life
Well her husband said in Ace Ventura the lights are on but nobody's home
Me too
@@blazinjedi2008not surprised that her son has issues too. Runs in the family. Her uncle thought he was St. Jerome..
When the movie was written there was supposed to be four Ghostbusters right from the beginning. The fourth one was played by Eddie Murphy.
Murphy was busy and not available for shooting at the beginning so they asked them to rewrite the script so he would join halfway through the film. Then he told him he wasn't available at all... so they got Ernie Hudson to play the part.
Louis keeps locking himself out, but he ends up being the key master.
Ray, when someone asks you if you’re a god YOU SAY YES!!
However when Ray says "Who ya gonna call?"
- *GHOSTBUSTERS*
Winston has lowkey some of the best lines of the movie. "If there's a steady paycheck, I'll believe anything you say!"
You can see Bill give the nod before he said that
There is a similar god reference in GB: Afterlife. If a person had watched Afterlife first before GB-1, they'd have missed it.
Never mind the God question. Should have been.. "Ray? Why do you like marshmallows so much?"
RIP Harold Ramis aka Egon. He wrote this movie.
Co-wrote with Dan Aykroyd.
He also directed many classics
Yes, Ghostbusters cosplay is huge today. You can buy the suite, the gear, and many people "Ecto-fy" their vehicles. Literally any car truck, or SUV has been used. Dodge Magnums, ex police cars, anything with a long roof are popular choices. I have a Crown Vic that spends weekends as Ecto-47.
All the gear is available today as well. A lot of it produced by Spirit Halloween and Hasbro. There are also Ghostbusters franchises all over the country. They do special events, parades, fund raisers, make a wish, all sorts of charity work. Lots of fun to be had, and the public loves seeing cars dressed up like Ectos.
We build our own gear mostly. It wasnt until the last 5-8 years that companies started offering full size accurate collectable props.
25:38 Fun fact: Eddie Murphy was originally considered for a role in Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd, who co-wrote the film, envisioned him in the cast. However, Murphy ultimately chose to star in Beverly Hills Cop instead, which came out the same year as Ghostbusters. But Eddie Murphy’s friend Arsenio Hall was the voice of Winston Zeddmore in the Real Ghostbusters cartoon.
It wasn't so much he "chose" to be in BHC, but Murphy signed an "exclusive-only" contract with Paramount when he made 48 HOURS, so he literally COULD NOT be in GHOSTBUSTERS because it wasn't made by Paramount.
Funnily enough Ernie Hudson also auditioned for Winston in the animated series and was told he didn't sound enough like Winston. Kinda like how Dolly Parton lost a lookalike contest to a drag queen
That’s awesome
the original script took place in space with a flying cadillac starring john belushi & richard pryor.
@@WHADATBOYNAMEIS don't forget they were already supposed to be an established company hopping through dimensions chasing ghosts and other supernatural entities
Porn Star Ron Jeremy was on the street when they filmed the closing celebration. You can see him briefly in the crowd.
They used actual New York newscasters and local talk show hosts for the media montage.
The music video for Ghostbusters has multiple cameos from well-known TV, Movie, and Music stars of the time.
He was also at Louis Tully's party.
OMG the fancy restaurant gag went right over their heads!!! Yes it's New York, nobody cares, they're rich and busy having meals and in the middle of conversation, until he screams, they all look back, he gets taken, and they resume their conversation like nothing happened.
It's frankly horrifying. If it hadn't been deliberately played for laughs, this would have been a SERIOUSLY scary movie.
@@xheralt It wasn't meant to be taken seriously, it's a comedy. New York is a really big, self absorbed, and extremely busy city, so they stuck that scene in to relieve the tension of the chase.
Yeah, and that's a young Debbie Gibson sitting at the table. 🎶
@@xheralt I saw this movie opening day and when the restaurant scene happed everyone laughed. We took it as a joke.
Sigourney Weaver is the Queen of Sci-fi as she's been in numerous movies in that genre from Aliens, Ghostbusters, Galaxy Guest, and Avatar! She's beautiful and talented!
Forgot Paul.
She's the quintessential action hero that ALL others base their performances on. ,😁👍
Yes, forget about the other 100 non sci-fi related movies she worked in. They aren't important.
The fire station is real. It’s the No. 8 ladder company in New York City. They still have the Ghostbusters sign outside and the ladder truck has the Ecto-1 license plate
Ghostbusters Headquarters is a real working firehouse here in NYC, the Ghostbusters sign hangs on the front it. The Firehouse is a celebrated NYC landmark. 99% of the exterior scenes for the all Ghostbusters movies were filmed on the streets of the city & other locations like the NYC Public Library
The same firehouse was also used for Ripley's Auto Finishing in The Mask.
Part 2 is just as good. Afterlife & Frozen Empire are well worth it as well
You have just witnessed my all time favorite movie. You should watch Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
I have Afterlife on dvd, haven't watched it yet. But,will one day.
@13:22 Justin Parker Jr! Legit impressed!
Actually Ray Parker Jr. Simply stole the music from Huey Lewis & The News as a sped up version of "I want a new drug". That's why they sued and gets all the royalties from the Ghostbusters theme song.
Actually part of the settlement was that Huey Lewis wasn't allowed to talk about it anymore and he did so now he actually pays Ray Parker Jr
For those interested, check this on youtube, the original song and video: Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters (Official Video)
The nearest match to the Ghostbusters theme is the under beat of Huey Lewis & The News' song
"I Want A New Drug" was actually a whole big copyright dispute over originality as it was alleged Parker Jr had stolen the song and it was settled out of court, but there's more in detail of it can be read about online.
so true one of my fave lewis songs
You a real one if you remember the card catalog and Dewey decimal system 😂
Asked my grandson if they still had the Card Catalog and Dewey Decimal System in the school library. He looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. & In a way, I was...
Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd go back to the early days of SNL. Harold Ramis was behind the camera in working on Caddyshack.
Harold also worked with Murray on the movie Stripes. Rick Moranis also worked on the Movie Parenthood and an A list of other stars one being a really young Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix. And you should know Annie Potts from the tv series Young Sheldon and voice over work in the Toy Story movies as Little Bo Peep. She was also on the tv series Designing Women.
Winston: "Tell him about the Twinkie..."
Venkman:" What about the Twinkie??" 😂
There was a previous kids show from the 60s called The Ghost Busters. When the movie was being made they had to fight to get the name. Right up until filming ended it was almost called Ghostbreakers. That's why the cartoon was called The Real Ghostbusters and a separate cartoon was made based on the old TV show.
The Ghost Busters was a live-action children's sitcom that ran on CBS in September to December 1975, about a team of bumbling detectives who investigate ghostly occurrences.
@@krdragon6950 Ah, I remembered the time period wrong. The show was pretty terrible but maybe really little kids liked it.
And in the same week The Real Ghostbusters premiered on ABC Saturday mornings in the fall of 1986, Filmation made a cartoon based off their Ghostbusters show on weekday afternoons, and it only lasted one 65-episode season, and to rub it in even further, The Real Ghostbusters would not only return to ABC Saturday in the fall of 1987 but at the same they also took over the Filmation cartoon’s time slot, which means it actually aired six days a week for its second season with 78 episodes
Director Ivan Reitman did the voices of both Slimer and Zuul.
The falling bookcase wasn't planned (a crewmember knocked it down, the wall behind was fake) and their reaction is genuine. They still kept the scene in, because it added to the mood they were going, both Murray and Aykroyd stayed in character and improvised.
"We're ready to believe you." I remember being a kid in NYC and actually seeing that commercial as-is on TV with absolutely no context provided. When I dialed the number on the screen, it was busy of course. That was real television ad!!! A great way to generate interest in young people as to whether or not it was true phenomenon while simultaneously grounding that bit of the movie in reality. Brilliant marketing.
One of my favorite funny moments in this movie:
Egon: Well, let’s say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. According to this morning’s sample, it would be a Twinkie…35 feet long weighing approximately 600 pounds.
Ray coughs in surprise-
Winston: That's a BIG Twinkie
😆🤣

Casey Kasems wife is the one dancing with lewis at the party.
She really screwed over his kids from his first marriage when he passed. She found a loophole somewhere in the paperwork and kept all of his money, hid his body for a long time ( kids had no idea where and if he was buried) - just all sorts of nasty things.
@@andreadeamon6419 she is evil, I think, she is a gold digger, she only married Casey for his money
The thing I love about the ghostbusters is that each character really is unique and has their place. Peter is the con-man funny guy. yes he does believe in the work, but he is also an opportunist. Ray is the visually excited geek. Egon is the non-visually excited nerd. Winston is the down to earth new guy who is the audience surrogate. Things get explained to him and thus to us. This is the problem with any of the newer movies beyond 2010. Either they give them no character or they all try to be the peter.
The fear when Dana was about to get taken😂 “Justin, Justin.”
Lol, I saw when Jane was on Cash Cab the other day. And today you come out with this . Spooky
GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS GHOSTBUSTERS!
Need I say more?
See Jane Go TV, Wow, this made my day brighter! Thank you!
“He-man!”
2:45 My favorite and scariest part of this entire movie is when that old lady right there in the library and Slimer is in background just hovering 😱😱😱😱😨😨😨
At 23:40, it took me some 20yrs to realize Egon was helping Venkman scam the Hotel Manager into paying $5K fee.😂😂 You him motion his fingers down on his neck for Venkman to see the asking price.
Because it was only visible in widescreen which was not the way most people saw it on home video
Jane got a pair of bracelets for Christmas and was like, "Oooh look... earrings!"
That's the 80's for you.
Why did Dr. Venkman bring Thorazine on a casual date with Dana? What were his intentions?
Ghostbusters and Spies LIke Us were written with John Belushi in mind. Belushi was going to have the Bill Murray role. Belushi died from the overdose. Ernie Hudson's role was originally Eddie Murphy. In some parallel universe we got a Ghostbusters film with Belushi and Murphy.
Stallone turned down Beverly Hills Cop and it was offered to Murphy. He left and the role went to Hudson. Sadly it was minimized since Hudson didn't have the cache of Murphy.
We ended up getting two massive films by sheer luck.
Honestly, I cannot imagine The Ghostbusters without Ernie Hudson as Winston. He owned the character as the "normal" person in the Ghostbusters team.
Originally written by Dan Aykroyd for himself and John Belushi, his fellow Blues Brother and cast member of the original SNL. When Belushi died, Harold Ramis came in and rewrote it for Bill Murray, who he had co-written parts for in MEATBALLS, STRIPES and CADDYSHACK.
Belushi is kind of in the movie - slimer is tribute to him from his animal house movie
Wm. Atherton was the scuzzy reporter in two Die Hard movies.
I discovered this by accident, and I have seen plenty of people react to this movie, but your guys reactions are by far the most real yet hilarious reactions ever, I love the energy going on in this video
Just to let you guys know that slimer is a memorial for John Belushi, Dan aykroyd's best friend. Because in the movie animal House when he's going through the line getting food he's eating like that. So that's way of putting John Belushi in the movie. Originally John Candy was going to be in it playing the next door neighbor to sigourney Weaver's character. But later on it went to Rick. But yeah I remember seeing this in the theater back in '84 when it first came out and I was just a kid and I loved it
One of the best movies hands down, the nostalgia is everything!!!
Rick Moranis was the best, Dan Aykroyd wrote this somewhat based on his life, his family were ghost hunters, Eddie Murphy was supposed to play Bill Murray's role but he turned it down for Beverly Hills Cop
Definitely get to know Harold Ramis he's an absolute comedy genius he wrote great things
This movie was originally meant to be a starring vehicle for John Belushi, but he died while the film was in development. After Belushi's death, Murray took over the lead. He was originally going to play Ray, Dan Ackroyd was originally cast as Egon. Harold Ramis, the primary script writer, took over as Egon. Ramis was later the director of the Bill Murray classic, "Groundhog Day."
"It wasn't space wizards with lasers."
It very nearly _was_ "space wizards with lasers", with a purple living car that can travel time and space, busting ghosts throughout time and different universes, and literal wands as their primary tool.
Ghostbusters 3 got held up by (afaik) Bill Murray. BUT the game that was released in 2009 is considered by the crew as the third movie that never happened. That game's lines and story was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis and feels very familiar in that sense.
"If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who'd you gonna call?!"
The cops?
He man
(Part 2)
20:35 his name in this is Onionhead. He was named Slimer for the cartoon series to give them a “ghost pet”. 44:57 the third one is “Afterlife” and the fourth one is “Frozen Empire”. 50:25 yeah he said it’s not worth $11,500/yr which is about $35,000/yr today roughly. 52:23 it’s more than likely just the top of the creature with the bottom open for them to climb into.
13:36 I like how he is like "wow, a computer" like as if he would never see one back then or as if he has never seen one 😅
Nothing beats the original Ghostbusters film. Great reaction! 👍🏿
All hail Lord Helmet 😂
Built a private color film lab in my garage to process my own film. Before the 1st week of processing work was done, the EPA was knocking on my door wanting to know the name & quantity of every chemical I was pouring down the drain. (The answer was zero) all chemical waste went into 5 gal buckets for recycling. The EPA guy was very, very, happy & I never saw him again. Do not mess with the EPA.
The whole Rick and Annette Flaming bit that Rick Moranis does in that scene was completely improvised at that moment.
At least that's what I read.
Hello Justin & Jane!😊 The original cast was supposed to be Dan Akroyd, Eddie Murphy, and John Belushi. John Candy was first offered the Rick Moranis role. There were some unusual guests at Louis Tully's party. The tall blond he dances with was Jean Kasem, Casey Kasem's wife. Singer Debbie Gibson was there too, along with porn star Ron Jeremy. They actually shot for 6 weeks around New York City including some guerilla style to get important landmarks in the film. The idea for the film came from Dan Akroyd, who's family has believed in ghosts for several generations. Great reactions to the original Ghostbusters film, Justin & Jane!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
lmao No oil wont explode from a cigarette
The headquarters is actually a functioning fire station and is emblazoned in two places outside with the Ghostbusters logo. Sigourny Weavers "ghost central" apartment is still there on central park west, looks exactly the same, and there really is an 1800s church right next to it (un-stomped on). 😏😏👍👌
The library scene, upstairs was NYC but in the basement was the LA public library. It was truly a creepy place for filming and the book case falling was not planned it just happened, they ad libb that scene. Just on the background of filming. ALso the jail scene was a truly creepy place, so much so that the director and filming crew were glad to get the scene shots in one take and get the hell out of there. LOL
I keep hearing this fun fact about the book case falling and it's literally in the final shooting script from 1983. So I don't know where this rumour keeps coming from, it's like one commenter made it up now everyone thinks it's true.
@@prodestrian well thanks for correcting me. Sometimes I'm not sure what's what but never claimed it to be fact perhaps I should have stated its what I read. If it's not the truth then thank you for pointing that out 👍
Ghostbusters 3 is basically the videogame 😅
The secretary was Annie Potts who has had an extensive career in Hollywood. Her last gig was playing MeMaw on Young Sheldon
Eddie Murphy turned down this movie to do Beverly Hills Cop!
Yeah, they wanted him to play Winston. But things turned out well for everyone, since both Beverly Hills Cop and Ghostbusters were the two biggest movies of 1984.
Lol, that wasn't much of a choice. The main star that's in every single scene, or a bit player that joins in the second half of the movie with a couple lines here and there.
@@glennwelsh9784 Exactly and both film franchises are still going-STRONG-till this day.
Crossing the Streams in essence creates a thermonuclear blast
Sometimes optically printed elements in VFX have their opacity lowered verrry slightly in order to lessen the appearance of surrounding holdout matte lines. This is why Jane could see through the gargoyle at 11:25.
The hotel set where the ecto-1 arrives is the same set that gets crushed in the end where the Ghosbusters fall in. They actually built all of that.
I have an exceptionally picky eater in my crowd who doesn't like nuts but is ok with peanut butter. What's worked for me before is spreading it very thin on wax paper on a cookie sheet and freezing it. Then it will peel away over the banana layer. After it softens you can finish making this.
Fun fact: Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz) eventually becomes a regular cast member in Young Sheldon.
The magazine at 24:46 isn’t Time, it’s Omni - a super dope science, technology and sci-fi magazine in the 80s. Omni and Dragon Magazine were my two favorite reads every month.
It's ironic that Luis Tully keeps locking himself out of his apartment' hen becomes the key master. Ghostbusters 2 should be next. Jason Rietman, the director of Ghostbusters Afterlife, has a cameo,
The car was actually an ambulance. Only about 100 of them were ever made and several were used for the movie.
My dad worked with a guy who had 1. They used it in parades for the children. My son loved it and had me finding every parade possible for so long!! Wasn't easy to do back then and my dad and i worked different shifts - so it was hard to communicate. Mom would ask - and then forget. People wonder why i still write everything down!
The pre-Ecto car was rented for the film, and painted black by the production then returned to its own (who eventually converted it into an Ecto replica anyway). The Ecto-1 was used in this film and at the start of Ghostbusters 2. So officially there were only 2 cars originally. Sony "restored" Ecto-1 in 2009 (badly), and Ecto-1A was disassembled at the same time but never actually restored. So 1A sat in storage for years, before they converted it into an Ecto-1 replica for Afterlife, along with a second one for stunt scenes. They also used it in Frozen Empire, so any scenes with Ecto-1 filmed in London (in the firehouse set) were actually using the Ecto-1A. The other Ecto was a later model which was converted to look like a 59 model. The original Ecto-1 hasn't been used for filming since 1989, it's currently rotting away outside on the Sony backlot as the "restoration" gradually disintegrates in the weather.
As you said, Cadillac only made around 100 1959 Miller-Meteors. Sony owns 3% of them.
Anyone mention yet the call back with Gozer when venkman says go get her ray to when ray said get her to the library ghost at the beginning of the movie
32:55, reflection on the glass from the inside light, makes them pretty much blind to the outside where it's dark. If all the outside lights are out and it's bright inside, someone could be 2 feet from your window, and you likely wouldn't notice
I just learned a few weeks ago that the Ghostbusters headquarters is, and was, at the time of filming, a working firehouse. They used it for all the exterior shots.
The Ghostbusters franchise includes:
~ Ghostbusters (the original from 1984)
~ Ghostbusters II (lackluster sequel from 1989)
~ Ghostbusters III (canceled preproduction)
~ The fetid 2016 'reboot' which shall not be named
~ Ghostbusters: Afterlife (aka Ghostbusters: The Apology)
~ The sequel to Afterlife (which I haven't seen yet)
Walter Peck overstepped boundaries when he had the containment grid deactivated. He didn't even do a proper investigation for any EPA violations. He would only have authority regarding their nuclear equipment if they were improperly disposing waste. Plus, they warned him it was dangerous to shut off the machine and even the technician was worried.
Yes, Nintendo was around in the 80’s
I have not watched this movie since 1997 when it absolutely terrified me. So we will see if this reaction gives me nightmares.
Jane, oil does not explode. The fumes burn, gasoline won't even explode, you can put out a cigarette in gas.
There are a lot of haunted hotels, some try to cover it up but most embrace it. The Clown Motel out west is the most famous.
JV you just don't believe because you haven't experienced it yet. When something breathes on your neck and whispers in your ear out of thin air you will believe.
This was the 80s. Movies, Music, and Fashion were just fun. Was not like today where everything seems so serious. I miss the 80s
You mentioned the Commodore 64 computer and it had the absolute best version of Ghostbusters as a video game. Had a save feature and everything so you could keep continuing with the same "franchise".
It's endlessly hilarious that the key master keeps locking himself out of his own apartment. I never noticed this as a kid. I don't blame Rick Moranis for giving up the business for his family. He gave us so many amazing memories. Sorry to crowd but it had to be said.
Ghostbusters was kinda groundbreaking, in the way it dealt with and portrayed ghosts. Most of the productions on the topic mainly dealt with haunted houses, spooky settings, and dead relatives. Often the film or show would deal with determining who the ghost was & what it wanted. There really weren't that many that dealt with the scientific aspects of the spiritual world & how physics could interact with it. The topic itself was a bit of a taboo as well. Ghostbusters broke a lot of ground, when it came out.
If you listen to Venkman in the beginning, he was studying the effects of NEGATIVE reinforcement on ESP. He never showed the cards to either participant. However, over the course of the test, the guy started to get more accurate. Peter showered the girl with compliments, but she never got a card right. The guy initially started guessing the girl's cards, but as he got more shocks, he started guessing the cards pretty accurately.
Winston had a much bigger role originally when he was going to be played by Eddie Murphy. When he dropped out his dialogue was cannibalized by the other 3 actors.
He was supposed to be an Egyptology PHD that couldnt get a related job, and was the one who would explain what Gozor is due to his expertise.
peck keeps addressing Venkman as “Mr. Venkman” he should address him
as “Dr. Venkman” he does have two PHD’s after all
Awesome reaction of my favorite Ghostbusters movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
🤚 I was one of those kids who dressed up as a Ghostbuster for halloween.
Rick Moranis actually wrote his whole part.
I know who I'm gonna call.
Love both "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II" equally. "Ghostbusters" is my favorite Elmer Bernstein score and after 32 years we FINALLY get Randy Edelman's score to "Ghostbusters II".
If Sigourney Weaver is the queen of sci-fi action movies then Zoe Saldana is the princess of science fiction movies coming soon to possess her throne
8 year old me loved this film when it came out, 48 year old me now regards it as a classic.
The Animated Series is really great it really diversify story with ghosts and other supernatural characters. And when done mystery it could be really good and with a little tweaking and it could work today
Nintindo, Commodor 64s, Cell phones, CGI and Desktop PCs were indeed around in the 80s.I was there and I had all of them, so i would know.
Some great practical effects in this

one of the only 2 movies that I've seen and the Crowd in the theater cheered for the Ghostbusters as many other theaters at the time were reported doing as well.
I've seen this movie about a million times so admittedly I tend to not watch the reactions, but I adore you guys so much I can't help but watch it again lol.
If you really wish for an afterlife, you should check the movie "Defending your life" (1991)
Glad you finally got to see this. Afterlife is the 3rd movie, and Frozen Empire is the 4th movie.
I never liked Venkman, he comes off as a creepy, sarcastic, sleazebag, jock with a doctorate, but people saw it as somehow charming. Each to their own of course.
Bill Murray is funny in the appropriate dose and setting. Enjoyed his performance in many things.
i think the sound mixing andf dersign were very well done, not cheesy, just the right comic undertones
Totally unrelated but i just watched ur taken reaction and u guys should definitely watch “berlin syndrome” cuz its kinda similar but its a gurl that is in her 20s and i was so scared to travel after watching it for the first time but it was so good
