I have a narcissist mother and it was hell growing up around her. She always told us worst lies about our father who is the kindest man you will ever meet. She left 4 young children on my father and took half of her money and left when i was only 10 and my life changed for the worst, I have been a total rebel and been leading a very reckless life for so long. But then she started doing the same thing to my children and telling them lies to make them hate people who called her out on what she is so I cut her off completely about a year ago. I can not stand by and watch her do to my kids what she did to us. It's so hard to explain it to people because "mother" is told to be different in our culture and people always judge us the children, usually until they see that side.

God bless you sister. I never commented on YT before, however I could not resist it. The only thing I say is that I wish you released this 7 or 8 years ago, it could have saved me from a lot of grief. I kept everything that went in the marriage to myself, thinking that I was the problem. 3 year ago we ended up in fight and police got involved that lead to our separation. Soon after he filed for divorce blaming me for everything. When we got separated everyone in the church and community blamed me, I stopped going to church for more than 4 months. Then one of the lady in my church encouraged me to get back. Both my kids were 8 and 5 years at the time and had to have counselling through school. After a year I had get one for myself. To those of you, who don't believe in having counselling, God put them on earth for our benefit. Please seek one while you praying for your miracles. Now I am divorced, I forgave all the wrong doing, leave with clear and focused mind to raise our children. Praise the Lord. God bless you again for teaching on this topic.

I always listen to your programme and learn from almost each one of them. What touched me the most about this particular message is, what you said about people being so judgmental about other people's affair and put them in some kind of boxes, without even having the full knowledge of their situations. I am glad you gave the advice of not saying anything when one doesn't have a full knowledge on the situation. Even if one has a full knowledge on the matter, especially fellow Christian brothers and sisters, please try to be like Christ and be supportive in a positive way rather than making matters worst by unbiblical messages and advices you're throwing at the person who's already damaged and hurt, more than you'll ever know, by what one is going through. Let us all aways be extra mindful when we open our mouth to condemn others.

Thank you Dr. Meskrem for addressing this issue. I have been dealing with narcissistic people my wholelife. Narcissistic father, Mother, Brother, And husband. And ended up with depression, agoraphobia, anxiety etc.
And the work of Melanie Tonia Evans has really helped me to finally heal. I would like to recommend Melanie's healing techniques to those ladies who are dealing with narcissistic husband's.

Dr. Meskerem, this is in my mind the single most important topic for Ethiopian families, narcissistic disorder. In your next video, if you could address the causes of narcissism, then, we may have sympathy for those afflicted with this condition. Because, narcissism is a disease. I mean, its not like the person chose to be narcissist just as one chooses to be a drug addict by consciously taking drugs. I believe these individuals were somehow deprived of motherly love in their formative years.
The mythical definition of Narciss is that of a person who looks at his own reflection in a pond and falls in love with himself, believing the reflected image to be someone else's and not of his own. In psychology, it is said, that babies keep staring intently and intensely at their mothers while feeding,, because babies find themselves or their own selves reflected back in the images of their mothers. However, if such babies were never cared for by attentive mothers or caregivers, then, nothing is being reflected back to them; such babies grow up to become narcissists.
So, it would be interesting to know and study the background and upbringing of the narcissistic adult as a baby, as a toddler and as a child. We Ethiopians/Eritreans ought to undertake this study since this condition is prevalent in our society. For, I have noticed so many mothers who just perfunctorily go about raising their children, without being emotionally attentive and emotionally engaged and available to their babies; mothers who don't even hold direct eye contact with their babies.
I think this affects men especially, because men who grow up without the tender loving care and touches of their mothers or caregivers are truly lost in this world as adults. Thos also reminds me of a program I had seen years ago on 60 Minutes, on the lost children of Eastern Europe who grew up in orphanages, that, how these babies failed to thrive, in some instance where they didn't even speak or learned to walk as toddlers, because they didn't receive meaningful contact and touches by their caregivers.

Yes you preached my whole life and I understand it very well. I confirm that my decision to get separated after 5 years discussed was right to my families.
