This episode brought back a beautiful memory of my golf outing with a dear friend of mine who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. On his "bucket list" was to play a round of golf with his friends (All 4 of us grew up together since childhood) myself and 2 others put together a trip out to Scotland back in 2012 - St Andrews, Kingsbarn Links, and the Castle Course. We all brought our families out and the people of St Andrews caught wind of why we were there and they helped make this trip an unbelievable experience for my dear friend and his family. It was an epic display of love for a complete stranger that still today has left an lasting impression. Watching him play so very well all 3 rounds made you believe that in a higher power. All of our families enjoyed a week of laughter, joy, love and gratitude. He bought a golf shirt from the Old course and at the last night over dinner he asked us to make sure this was the shirt he wanted to be buried in. 10 month later he passed away. All 3 of his scorecards from Scotland and 2 score cards from Pebble Beach and Brandon Dunes + that shirt were with him as we laid our dear old friend to rest. The 3 of us still play together - but now his oldest son (and sometime his 2nd oldest son) fill out our 4-some. Thank you Andy for making me relive that memory through your content. God Bless You.
Its a wonderful story albeit a sad one but so pleased your friend got to play those rounds with you all and the fact he played well is perfect!
🙏🏻
❤
Thanks for sharing your story. Will raise a dram to your friend tonight.
@@TheAverageGolfer - Thankful and blessed to have him consider me to be his friend. I loved him and love his family as well. Golf has brought SO many good people into my life. NO DOUBT - that golf is more than just a game.
Thank you Andy. I regard you as my golf abroad travel guide. Stuck here in the Mojave desert in the USA, but having family roots in Scotland I am envious. I am about your age and I hope to see the old country before I pass. Thank you for sharing these wonderful videos, they are unlike anything else out there and help us appreciate more than scores or equipment, but rather, encourage us to just enjoy life and the game. Thank you once again.
Thanks for the kind words
Well played Andy. Your game is looking really good at the moment. The course looked gorgeous. Great your showing us all these lovely courses. Look forward to next Monday.
It was a decent knock
Another beautiful course!!! Thank you Andy for taking us and sharing with us not only the wonderful courses, but reminding us how important it is to enjoy the time spent playing with family or friends. This crazy game has allowed me to make numerous friends. Along with my wife that just started playing a little over a year ago. We have a great time golfing together. Please keep up the wonderful work!!!
Sounds like your having fun!
Andy, this video was an absolute delight! The way you showcased the new golf course in Scotland really captured the essence of modern golf architecture. I loved the tour of the Rusacks Hotel and the exploration of local Scottish delicacies as well-really added to the whole experience. The match play was thrilling to watch, and your insights made me feel like I was right there with you on the course. Looking forward to more gems like this one! Keep up the great work!
Glad you are enjoying, drop me an email as I wanted a quick chat about a possible collaboration. Averagegolfer99@gmail.com
You're making some of the absolute best TH-cam golf content. Keep it up. And people, subscribe!!!
Picture Andy C,
You lucked out there with the weather not even a breeze and what a great looking place. Always nice to see water in the surrounding area when you play.
You hit the right mix of golf, banter, appreciating good golf and enjoying your surrounds with the bonus of camera work that could be the work of the tourism office.
Keep it coming, and what a putt on the index 1
Nice feedback, glad you think it all works together 🙏
@@TheAverageGolfer it’s what golf is to me, a game that can be infuriating as one part of your game goes on holiday, good company, countryside and it is the best stress buster out there for 3-4 hours the game takes over and the outside world goes away.
@@guyr7351 Thats a great way to view the game
Thank you Andy and PXG for this "off the beaten track" series which has been truly stunning. None more than today's offering of modern links. Scotland has many riches in the golfing world and the proof was here for all to see. Finished with a great game of StyMe and a pint of the black stuff, what more can you ask for in life. Andy C for me this week.
Thanks for all your support and continued feedback
Great video again Andy on a super looking golf course! Looked like some risk and reward holes there too! Looked like the hotel over looking at Andrews was pretty special! That pxg sponsorship is paying off!! Lewis c for the photo for me this week.
I look forward to next week's video and hopefully you'll get on the old course.
At £250 for st Andrews and £300 to play dunbarnie, I feel a bit priced out from these 'off the beaten track' courses and accommodation so I'm looking forward to later in the year when you might be out in the van at a hidden gem somewhere as well👍
Yes we should be out in the van very soon Johnny and some realistically priced golf courses! 👍
Great video with some excellent golf being played by both of you, thank you Andy for showing these wonderful courses that i doubt I'll ever have chance to play
Thanks for watching and commenting
I played it last year. It was one of the most enjoyable courses I have ever played. The people involved in the club where so lovely and the facilities are world class
That episode was amazing. The scenery and the quality of golf and photography was superb. I look forward to many more episodes.
Glad you enjoyed
Another great vid Andy ! All the pics were great ! It was a tie for me. Will be watching to see if luck is on your side on playing st. Andrews.🤞🤞
Please never stop making these course series. They are a wonderful reference for when I return from Oz in 2025. Have been fortunate enough to have 2 games now at the Old Course and going for the hat trick next year. Dumbarnie is definitely on our 2025 list. We visited there in 2019 but due to time restrictions was unable to play.
We keep plugging away
Andy C (before I forget!) What glorious footage. Thanks and well played Lewis on the front 9 but the old fox crept up on you. 👍
I like that 🤣
Well Done Guys, Great Episode - I have played both Kingsbarns and Dumbarnie Links and would agree with Lou ‘s opinion that they are both fantastic modern interpretations of classic links designs. I am also pleased to see Dumbarnie Links is on the mend, as I am playing it next month, after they had to close back in 2022 due to growth issues with the greens, due unexpected poor weather conditions, which was a bold and honest move as they did not want to remain open with greens that were “poor and unacceptable” their words. So it's great that their bold decision has worked in their favor and I can't wait and this episode has really wetted the appetite....
Yes it seems like a god decision as this was in very good condition especially for April
Once again I PMSL when you said, standing on the top edge of the bunker, “Got my yardage right….good course management!
…. 😂Brilliant! Also loved Lou ‘s excellent use of English profanities, albeit bleeped out. Keep this up guys, it’s comedy gold. On a serious note, you seem to have really clicked with the PXG’s, Andy.
Lewis is good fun and throws in the odd expletive!
These are excellent well produced videos! Love them!
Glad you like them!
Andy, you nailed it. Image 1 & 5.
Spot on.
First things first congratulations.... it's Andy B from both me and Kay 😂
That's my Monday chill out watched.
Great play from both of you. The course is stunning.
We haven't managed to get out this year yet, due to the weather. We'll definitely try StyMe when we do.
🎉🎉🎉
Was sat in the window of St Andrews golf club as you walked past. Have been waiting to see why you were there.
Nice place to sit
Great video lads. And ends well with a pint. I've been lucky enough to play Dumbarnie , Kingsbarns and the Old Course and Dumbarnie was my fav 🙂
Interesting, I absolutely loved it
Well done Andy. Nice to see you and Lewis visit the county of my birth. Fisher and Donaldson - now you are talking! Glad to see you on Dumbarnie.
Andy c. Wonderful memories of playing the Old course 5 times. 3 clockwise and twice the conventional anti clockwise. Dumbarnie defo one for me in the future. Thank you Andy, Lewis and PXG
5 times! Lucky man!
Another excellent video and insight to some of Scotland’s magnificent courses. I am up in Scotland the 2nd week in May (visiting Fife) and have been looking at some of the courses highlighted in your video. Alas there is only me and some of the courses do not allow a 1 ball to book a tee time. In your travels around Fife, do you know if any of the courses that might find someone that I could pair up with? A 2 ball is always better than playing as a 1 ball. All the best. John R.
I would email the clubs directly and I am sure they will add you to a group 👍
Really enjoyed this video And. Dunbarnie must be one of the best public courses in the UK and considering the lousy winter it looked to be almost pristine condition. Some of your aproach putting was unbilievable. Not a fan of the confusing styme format, but really looking forward to you playing the Old course .. that will be "some video" and to have your take on it will be quite special .. hope you get to play it !!
Yes it was unreal, see you next week
Played the course twice now, fantastic and no wind or rain like you how lucky, but Kingsbarns just beats it. Thought the Links road next to Rusacks was one way!😅
Did you see the van?
Loving the series. Andy D today... you've got to have the sea in the background. Enjoy.
Very reflective first sup of the pint there from Lewis at the end....what coulda been...great stuff lads.
I think he still shot -4
Andy D this week. Been to St Andrews but never had the privilege of playing the course. Dumbarnie looks great . Still enjoying Sty Me.
Its a helluva good course
I really enjoyed the banter and cinematography good balance
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is a good exemple showing that a golf game is not over till the last hole...!!! Good video !
Very true
Glad to see you're in Scotland and on a links. you must be pleased to be out of the rain. Dumbarnie looks incredible. Thank you for this episode. Andy D for me
Amazing place
Great playing! Great video as always. Andy C was my favorite pic. Can't wait till next Monday!
Thanks for voting
My favourite photo was Lewis A, although most of them would be good enough to be included in many golf magazines. The course is very special from so many angles. Top venue to play. You lucky lads.
Thanks very much
Hello Andy. What a great video. This destination is surely on my bucket list. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😊🇩🇪
You should
Andy a, Lou b for pics, another great one Andy. Lou really shows how much he loves the course and you both show how much enthusiasm you have for the game, really hope you get to play the old course. Can't wait for that one. P.s. tried the pulled pork burger. Top shout loved it. 👍
Pulled pork burger is a winner 😂
The course looked fantastic…. I’ve played the old course twice and it’s amazing but I love the modern takes of link’s courses like you played …. Sorry but couldn’t pick a winner of the best photo … Lou is doing a great job by the way with filming and is a good lad with a lovely golf swing
Glad you enh=joyed the episode
Great golf on a great course. Well played Andy, even more importantly, Andy B
Thanks 👍
Looks fabulous Andy. You should try Machrihanish Dunes, another modern links which is a real treat but great value as its a little out of the way
Played it bud a few years back, only issue I had was too many blind tee shots
Andy d. I liked the splash of sand that came with each shot from the fairways. Old Tom said grass needs 3 things; sand, sand, and more sand!
Lovely to hit off
I just returned, played it on Friday - one word - epic. Beautiful place and so under rated locally. Rusacks is class too but the real hero near by is Kingsbarns - OMG
Agreed, epic it is, not played Kingsbarns but hopefully one day
Excellent video and you really showed the course off well. Next time, don't park the wrong way in a one way street 😉
Played Dumbarnie 1,5 years ago and it is definitely one of the best courses in the UK. Visually not quite as spectacular as Kingsbarns but amazing nevertheless. It lacks the quirky features of the old links courses and is much wider but to be fair, that suits the vast majority of amateurs anyway. It's just so much fun.
I think you make good points, its very playable and a number of tee options is always a good idea
I've heard you explained the stymie rules twice now and I still don't understand how it works.
Wow it’s not that difficult 🤷♂️ what you struggling with?
@@pklucky43 Me too, got no idea what's going on!
I think Andy has got his terminology wrong.
A stymie is when you are blocked out by an impediment like a tree.
However a Mulligan may be more suitable for the shot played..
St Andrew's is the most beautiful place in the world..
@@TheAverageGolfer Well, I think the scoring part I guess. If you call styme after the drive, then the hole you play doesn't count for you. Is that part right? So the next player doesn't call styme, then their hole counts. Is that part right? If i have it right so far, then can you explain the scoring part. Sorry, I am just a little thick.
Played there last October one of the best courses ever actually could be the best 👍⛳
Its right up there
Andy d. What a beautiful track. Scottish golf at its finest. Great match.
Thanks
Another great video Andy 😊
Pressure got to Lewis as soon as started playing styme 😁
Andy d this week for me and oh you got the blame for the last video 10 days ago as you told me to buy it straight away🤪 , and I did and what a club 👍
I hope the club is going well for you Mark!
@@TheAverageGolfer didn’t want to unwrap it .the old school look and feel of the mini driver was spot on
@@markhilton4920 it’s a thing of beauty, don’t get it dirty
Another cracking video with some very decent golf on show. Lewis A for the photo.
Another great video Andy, and this time you win the photo comp for me Andy D
Thanks for voting
Would love to play those courses one day. Will give Styme a go on my Friday game this week. Oh and I liked Andy D 😊
Let me know how it goes
@@TheAverageGolferHi Andy, our Styme game proved a little difficult because we played as a threesome. We weren’t sure if the second to tee off should get a call before or after tee off. With six Styme’s called and only scoring on three holes there was a lot of strategy required. We had fun and the game certainly has potential. Cheers Veg.
thanks for the feedback but it is a matchplay format so needs to be 2 or 4 players
Another beauty fellas! Andy D is my choice as photo of the week.
Lewis A.Stunning course.Living the dream Andy🏌️♂️
You play what ever format you like mate it’s your channel and I am enjoying seeing these beautiful courses. Having said that I don’t think the game adds much and can’t see any clubs taking it on for their match play comps
You should give it a go, they are all playing it at our club
More magnificent visuals, Andy. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another Monday evening we’ll spent. THANKS ANDY
Thank you

Great episode. 👌 Loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for a great video..Two dear friends having a hell of a day!
We sure did
Andy C.
Cracking course. A bit pricey but may treat myself some day
Yes one for the special occasion
Lewis A. Would love to play Dumbarnie one day. Kingsbarns is my favourite.
I need to play Kingsbarns
You’ll need a trip to NI to pay The Royal’s Portrush, Co Down and Portstewart GC. Andy c btw
Not sure we have the budget 🥲
@@TheAverageGolfer PXG will make it happen!
Andy wins the photo of the day 👍🏼👍🏼
Andy B is my pictures, what a fantastic place to play, love it Andy
Thanks Nick
Andy a .... track looks awesome , bit out of my price range & the digs .😢
I look forward to off the beaten track. Great video.
You and me both!
Great video, I so much prefer this type and the StyMe format is superb
Glad you are enjoying it
Andy D for me this week for the photo comp although they were all fab photos - hard to take a duff one I guess! It looked great but I think it's a bit too manufactured for my liking. I, unlike Lou, prefer old style links courses where the golf course designer have used the natural contours of the land, and sat a golf course within it. It just looks more elegant to my eyes. I suppose Dumbarnie will nestle in as it matures but at the moment the dunes look too mechanically formed to be as naturally seamless with the course as old links do. You would have killed my spirit with that putting display Andy! I bet Lou was punch drunk by the end?
I think there’s a place for both and prefer both old and new style links to a parkland, putter was working well!
@@TheAverageGolfer
I agree Andy. The new style links are more fun to my mind, the old, more cerebral. I loved playing the Castle course, and Kingsbarns (many years ago when it had just opened). They were great for our fun golf tour but given the choice I’d always play the old style. But like you, it’s always links before parkland
Lewis's framing takes the photo prize for me.
Thanks for voting
Andy D 📸 played Dumbarnie a couple of years ago and it is a fantastic course, although the pay to play concept is aimed at the golfing tourists with the price higher every year
They do look after Scottish residents with a 50% reduction in green fee
@@TheAverageGolfer yes they do, just checked and it was May 2021 when I was there, time flies. Did you get your dram before teeing off and your wee velvet bag?
@@kennymchardy We sure did
Just looked and the discount for locals is even more, £100 locals £300 visitors. Not a concept I like, if you’re not a member pay the green fees rate or play at discount with a member. I know many local courses to me offer a discount if your a member locally and part of county union.
Putting such a premium I think is a a bit cheeky
@@guyr7351 Dumbarnie doesn’t have members, it’s only pay to play
Andy C for me. Stunning. More please
More to come
Great video….isn’t the term stymie not styme though?
It is but we have have purposely doctored hence the StyMe......two capitals
Thanks as ever, Andy, for great visuals. The curmudgeon in me prefers your videos from the more affordable tracks but I'm not naive and I know that you have a business to run. All that being said, green fees are out of control and Scottish golf is getting away from its roots. I'm from Aberdeen and I remember fantastic golf all over the country at affordable prices. I know cost of living is going crazy but charging £217/$270 upto May and £299/$371 thereafter is a piss take. It is exploiting the "average golfer" who has a family and bills to pay and can't justify that money. The one off tourist from the US, Korea and Japan won't mind paying that as part of a wider trip I'm sure. If you can afford it, and your family doesn't have to starve for a week all power to you! Keep up the great work!
I think its fair that in 21 episodes we feature a premium rate track?
@@TheAverageGolfer yep and I didn't say it wasn't. A shame that you took it that way, but that seems the way with social media debates. People tend not to read the words and would rather take everything as a personal slight. Engagement is good, right?
Another beautiful course FairPlay looks amazing and thanks for good golf
Thanks Gareth
What a golf course. Stunning. Well done Andy but you know Lewis will get revenge. Hope the Guinness was good.
I’ve no doubt he will!! Good job the match wasn’t the front nine!
Great course and great location although I am a bit bias growing up and living in The Kingdom for 54 years now. We really are spoiled for choice in Fife and tbh there are many hidden gems at a fraction of the fees charged by the bigger courses trying to lure American golfers and their cash.........
Well done Andy. 🎯
Glad you enjoyed it

Good show guys. I just have one thing ...
This may have already been pointed out, your spelling stymie is wrong. And that may be the way you saw it wherever, but you may want look it up. 🙂
It’s not supposed to be correct, it’s a play on the word hence the capital S and M StyMe 👍
