For anyone looking for context in this video: The project he was asked to join on is a UK based non-profit organization called Africa Express. Damon was featured on 2 (maybe a few) tracks for the album. He has a very strong love for music of all kinds. The crying seems like a shared emotional experience between the artists, but mostly Damon’s reaction to how perfect he thought it was. Please find this song and listen for reference. What they are hearing in the headphones explains a lot.
Damon Albarn has such a powerful energy. I got more into his discography few months ago and I don't regret it at all. I'm looking forward to dig deeper.
@@soood3os sorry I'm a bit late, but are you still interested? I can suggest you something although it depends on what kind of music you prefer, his discography is quite all over the place haha
The way Damon uses his music and the music in other people to connect on the deepest and truest level makes me so jealous but it's so beautiful to see. I love it so much.
I can't stop watching this clip. Think its because it shows beautiful music can move human beings regardless of them being from different ends of the earth. Music is something deep and intrinsic within us all.
Damon's gift is of true collaboration of the noblest , purest form. Collaboration in which each contributor is actually able to infuse their own style/ input into it, as opposed to simply being a sound byte pasted on top of someone else's creation. All the parts are so seemlessly and inextricably sewn into a unified whole. Every time. This came thru SO CLEARLY when I saw Gorillaz live a few years ago. It was at the depths of Trump's reign , and to see all these utterly diverse musicians truly sharing the stage and sharing joy .. it just felt like EXACTLY what the world needed.. I totally cried.
I don't wanna sound weird but he's a comfort figure to me, I've been SAed by ma grandfather and I never had a male older figure comfort me about it so since he looks like my dad and I love his voice when I saw this video I cried, it's my dream to just meet him and hug him
Yeah, I'd probably start tearing up to. Something visceral and raw about singing in your mother tongue that it flows through your DNA, and to be a witness to someone older, and wiser effortlessly singing with her heart and soul hits you different. I remember hearing my uncle singing in Spanish when he would get drunk and entertain people because he sang like it was his song, and it sounded beautiful... Idk maybe I'm thinking to much into it, and maybe they are just crying because Damon really loved their singing
That's a very nice comment that you posted, and I appreciate you sharing that with the world, and I don't want to take away from the sentimental value, but... They were singing in English, they just have an accent.
It may be argued that essence isnotbeing questioned here rather a more common stripe of Italians assisting in an almost slide Ir stretch. Don't just number the allums of alexandrite the Gambian substitute quarter or not.
@@KarlHamilton @Karl Hamilton thanks. I genuinely think Albarn and Strummer have parallel lives for different generations; they're both accomplished storytellers when describing British society, both always interested on expanding their musical boundaries leaving their comfort zone and always excelling in the process. Both from comfortable backgrounds and arty yet punk enough to retreat from stardom and know when to "quit". Now about Noel...let's say he's going through his P.I.L days now... don't think he'll be on butter ads but something like Tesco summer disposable bbqs with songs like "Digsys dinner" in the background. Bro I can almost see it
Not a bad comparison, thing is I liked Joe,Johnny boy and Noel, can't fucking stand albarn with his faux ways, why the fuck would you cry unless you were a middle class wanker like him.fucking bandwagon jumper.
@@mickymac6571 see, I think it is that toxic masculinity the one to blame for the world being the shithole it is man. The guy just cries because he is genuinely overwhelmed by things. He cries while seeing crowds singing his songs whilst Noel just shit on his crowds, calling the place he's playing at "shitholes" etc. And I don't think he's bandwagon jumper, quite the contrary, he's a massive trailblazer. The easiest thing in the 90s would have been to stick to anthems like Parklife but he was always doing weird shit like "supashopa" (and playing it live) or "The Debt Collector"... you tell me if Brett Anderson or any of these brit pop bands like Menswear or Dodgy would have even attempted to do something as whacky. Thats having balls. I understand that he's not for everyone and I respect if you don't like him, however he's not a tory and for some strange reason I can see Noel voting Tory at some point? And regarding the fact that he's middle class, I'll never ever get that working class british snobbery for whoever attempts to make music in this country not coming from an area like chatsworth estate. I'm not British but I've lived in Glasgow for 11 years now and seeing how they fight each other when deciding whether Bobby Gillespie is "real" or just a "middle class pansy" is just nursery material.
@@jacquesmesrine8031 he was all working class pretensions ,Pulp's common people could have been written for him, be who you are not who you pretend to be.Noel Gallagher could well vote Tory, that's his choice, his kids go to private school, working class people want their lives to improve, not be stuck in a social and economic ghetto patronised by the middle class labour party we now have.

love the guys music but he gives me white saviour complex vibes like its a pretty condescending thing and acts like hes doing the black community a favour
I think you have it reversed. If you pay attention to this and many other of his artistic endeavors, he is usually grateful and humble. They are doing him the favor
You literally made that up. Y’all say weird shit like this whenever black people are near white people and then spin a savior critique to sound intelligent when all it does is make you seem like you think black people are looking to be “saved” in these contexts. Be serious lmao

damon got emotional and it was contagious
Maybe he’d spent some time in their country getting to know them & this was his last day, or something. I doubt it was just the signing

Post 2000, once Damon went black he never went back
Damon Albarn is just Joe Strummer 2.0 the same way Noel Gallagher is on his way to become John Lydon
