- Part 2. Photos from the rebuild of one of the Sherman tanks used in the movie “Fury”, this M4A4 was hit by the Tiger 1 in the tank battle scene, the hull was fitted with a fibreglass turret to allow the turret to be blown off, this M4A4 replaced Roy’s tank “Lucy Sue” for this one scene. This is the final progress film of the rebuild after the movie. This M4A4 Sherman is being rebuilt by Hughes Movie Supplies
Glad to see there are people out there that care about the old Shermans as much as I do.......
I'll never afford a tank, but ive helped save ww2 jeeps and dodges and other trucks
The Sherman was interesting, but I'm much more of a T-34/(76) person.
The turrect reconstructing looks fantastic, its so exciting and important to see the old Sherman's been brought back to life.
+FlamingFurnace Thanks
What is it about tanks that fascinate me so much? I've been a tread-head since was a lil' lad.I love watching restorations and builds. thanks for the upload
Amazing!! I take my hat off to guys like you for the skill, care and love you put into these projects.Well done.
Bonnie It is amazing to me that there are still parts around to restore them.
Do you have any information on how this tank is doing since the Museum picked it up?? Great work for your involvement, though!!
imagine these being manhandled at the factory during WW2 just like they are now.
In the peak of production a new Sherman came off the assemby line every 30 minutes. America was a great manufacturing nation then.
@@WhatIsYourMalfunction Still could be if everything made here wasn't so expensive lol
@@simplsquam Cost of living here drives up the pay, which drives up the prices. So you're paying for it on both ends in a real sense, until automation is full enough that the prices can come back down. Give it another thirty years, give or take.

Fantastic restoration on the tank and turret, you should all be proud of the work you have completed.

props for bringing the turret back to life, iv seen restorations where they toss parts like that for being to far gone, that is alot of plug welding and grinding though!
They gotta be crazy to want to restore a tank that badly shot up. It’s amazing that they were able to weld up all those hits on the turret and blend in the texture to make it look original again. My hat’s off to the restoration crew!👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Any idea which museum bought her? We sold ours (unfinished M4A4) to Normandy Tank museum before they went bust and sold up. We never got to see our old girl running in the flesh.
ArmourWorldGaming bovington tank museum in the UK is currently in possession of FURY. They take it out during Tiger Day and Tankfest.
@@nathankingham1248 Hey brother, the tank in this video isn't "Fury." Fury's an M4A3, (and is actually an A2 made up to look like an EZ-8 by Bovington and the studio). This tank is an A4, and one of ten total functioning Shermans that appeared in the film.
@@mikepeterson9362
They don't say it's the Fury Tank, they mention in their other video that it was just in the film
there are so many tanks rusting on the seafloor, in the forest waiting for a nec chance to life.
Fun Fact: Many M4 Shermans that were modified, tried to reach the beach of Normandy. You can guess what happened to them as they went through the high waves of the English Channel.
It might be impossible due to the amount of corrosion that happened after 70+ years it would crumble and fall apart
ann prath I’ve seen a video where Russia pulled some m4a3’s from the ocean floor, and they didn’t look to bad
@@topsekrit9836 I think there are 19 Sherman DD's still rusting on the seafloor near the beach of the Omaha sector..
Agreed and they should be saved
Unbelievable Workmanship & Ability, also nice Job loading it on the Tractor Trailer !
I couldn't imagine having to cast the turret like they did when new. But amazing job fixing it.
The m4 Sherman is my favorite American WW2 tank
Im like 4 years too late, but...
Cool to see this. Now i wonder, do the parts have to be custom made for the tank or are there still spares just lying around somewhere?
Sometimes you have spares that other collectors donate or you buy them
That was some serious shooting in that turret! I wonder wich caliber have been used.
+SMaia02 Not sure, the turret was from a target range Sherman, it had been filled with concert to make it last longer on the range, the rounds had gone through the turret then the concert and out the other side of the turret, some had even gone through the gun breech. It still took a week to jackhammer the concert out of it.
+Mick Wilson You guys have done a great job, it looks like new after all. Congratulations!
+SMaia02 Thank you
Depending on where that was I may have even added to that damage. Most of the time I never saw my targets but during my time in I did see some classics out on the firing ranges. Sad.
By the way I could use a job. You hiring? : )
Did you seal the holes in the turret with putty ? ;-)
Welded all the holes
How was filling all the holes in the turret? what was the process?
This is giving value to heroes! Very well Fantastic! From Brazil!
Love the movie and the tank.
Curious, what chewed that turret up so bad? I know some type of munitions, but that was rough!
They are the holes made by HEAT rounds, the turret was clearly used as a firing range target for infantry anti-tank weapons
The turret looks like a damn 20 mill torn it to shit
Surprising that the turret was salvageable. Nice job with getting that to look nice again. It would almost be more interesting to leave it looking like Swiss cheese but operational
Was this M4A4 originally a 2A 66A tank?
beautiful beast
What happened to the turret? Why are there so many holes?
The turret was from another Sherman that came off a target range.
+Mick Wilson Thx
Another reason why there could be so many holes is because the ammo they used to destroy it could have went to peaces and were powerful enough to go through it. Or that was the way the ammo hit the tank.
Arcania000 [LEGN] shows you what would've happened if they had depleted uranium ammunition back in the day.
What I was thinking, got some attention from an A-10.
to think there used to be thousands of these in the world...most gone due to being destroyed in film or scraped :( (also...what's the song used in the background?)
Tanner Lilley There was about 50,000+ made during WW2, most were scrapped in firing ranges and most were destroyed in WW2.
NitroCaliber - Many also were sold all over the world, to the armies of many different countries. Israel was just one of the countries, and they did a lot of modification, which kept them competitive and useful, until they had their own tanks.
Is the hull an M4A2? I can tell it's Chrysler built from the notch in the sand-skirt fixing strips on the sides, but I still get foncused by the A2's & A3's. Was it Chrysler multibank or GM diesel engined? Lovely job you've done on it, that's for sure.
I'm without sound, if you mention these points in the voiceover, sorry!
he doesn't do voice overs, just background music.
hey Golly--besides early and late, and who made them, they differ mainly as engine types.M4 and M4A1 are radial gas engine, M4A2 are twin GMC diesels with superchargers, and the M4A3 has Ford V8 500 HP , and M4A4 have Chrysler Multibank engine. you can find early and late turrets, hatches and main gun mantlets mixed in. and the T23 76mm turret can be found on later tanks or with the later versions of the original turret. and tanks rebuild in the field and at Depots also make the details mix up a little bit as well. excellent book here www.amazon.com/Sherman-Weapons-Warfare-George-Forty/dp/0713716789
you will also find suspensions mixed. early M3 type, 2 versions of the VVSS type , and some came with extended end connectors, some were modified with spaced suspension with extended end connectors on the tracks near the hull and on the outside of the track. also track options, rubber block, rubber chevron, steel chevron, steel bar cleat and then HVSS suspensions came with early scalloped style tracks in steel, and rubber split style chevron very similar to today's M1 tank. but M1 has split rubber blocks with a raised rectangular pad. also the canadian Ram tanks have other track and suspension options as well.
Cheers, Bradley, some useful info. That's why I asked about the engine it had, to identify it. I (daftly) decided to correct the Tasca sherman Firefly Ic Hybrid (as we Bwitish chaps called them) and Tasca made quite a few booboos so I found out many of the different options in the process. There can't be too many tank designs that have been powered by so many different types of motor, and the Chrysler multibank is an fascinating design.
You work on some pretty rough stuff. Wouldn't it me easier to find retired tanks that weren't knocked out or used as gunnery practice ?
I don't get a lot of choice on what the boss buys lol, the Ram was cheap and we have lots of parts for it already.
Plus they only made 2000 Ram tanks so there are not many about.
One of the best war movies ever made
The movie used an M4A3E8 not an M4A4, though we can say there is no way they used an easy eight starting from the Africa campaign
If you read the production notes, it was actually an M4A2 refitted with the HVSS, or Horizontal Volute Spring Suspension, found more commonly on the M4A3E8 Sherman, and with the late production model turret and 7.6 cm M1A2 Gun fitted.
whoa, poor Tank 3:25 Ty for bringing'er back to Life👍🏼
@@sax-o-bones don't even wanna know, or imagine.🙏
@@sax-o-bones : i ask tha same thing i wonder what type of small cal shell all them holes are, i know some pure armmor piecing can penetrate. but i'd like to know what caliber, saw the sherman also all holed up, didnt thing a small cal can pen a tank of such.
Probably was used as target in fire practise
@@mok822 i{m trying to understand the true of munitions would pen the tank, thought smaller cals could pen, well except Anti Tank Rifles, but there's a bunch but ur right may been used for Target Practice.
are u gonna make a video or foto's from the finished Sherman?
+kingtiger700 I hope so
was this a range tank?
Not really, it was on a range but never hit
What I didn't understand was how did a tank crew, with their tank supposedly together and fighting since Africa, get a Sherman tank with the high velocity 76mm gun? "Fury" was the only M4 in the movie thus armed, as noted by the longer barrel with muzzle brake. Plus, why did Brad Pitts character carry an STG-44 assault rifle that only Nazi troops had late in the war? The gun wasn't common and neither was the ammunition, so why would an American tanker carry one? I'm not complaining though... It was a great movie!
I believe you are thinking of the FG42 that only Nazi Paratroopers used. The STG-44 was certainly used by the Wehrmacht. Also Brad Pitts character didn't use an M4A4 he used an M4A3E8. As far as getting it, I don't know for 100% sure, but I don't think it was uncommon for veteran tank crews to receive the latest tank.
beans snaeb firstly: its an M4A3E8 not an M4A4. Secondly: they never say that the crew had been in the same tank, just that the crew itself had been together since Africa.
M4A3(76)W HVSS. M4A3E8 is just the project designation for any M4 (in this case an A3) with 23" track HVSS.
Ok, so I got that part wrong, but the point I was making was referencing the 76mm main gun on Fury. (identifiable by its length and the muzzle break) Which was not available in '42-'43 when "Fury" and her crew supposedly were fighting in Africa. Brad Pitts character also carried a Sturmgewehr rifle, which while being a great small arms for vehicle use is still a Nazi gun, and used not commonly available ammunition.
***** Indeed, they're correct points. But why would it not be illogical that he be carrying a captured gun? Or referenced earlier service (of course not in the same tank)?
Fury in the movie "Fury" was a M4A3E8 also known as easy 8
"M4A3E8' can refer to a number of different M4A3 variants.
_FURY_ was played by a M4A2(76)W HVSS [M4A2E8(76)W also works] representing an M4A3(76)W HVSS [M4A3E8(76)W].
Thank you, finally someone who knows what they are talking about. I see so many comments saying the FURY tanks was an M4A3E8 or a Jumbo lol.
Dieselman8v92 atleast in wot
Call_Me_Radium Actually if you watched the special features the burns are from before the war when WarDaddy and his brother were driving a truck, it crashed and caught fire killing his brother, WarDaddy escaped with the burns.
I’ve seen old Sherman’s in junkyards rusting away in Europe with lots of holes.
Wait, the sherman got hit by a real 88mm?
Just so people know, that tank was probably used as a “target” on a range somewhere.
The tiger 1 hull is a target for a10 warthog recently, training use tho
Is there a link to part 1?
Where do you work?

I can't wait to see the ram and can you do Free world war 2 tank on T-26 and BTs
R.i.p to the commander, reloader and the Gunner XD
Your joking I presume? If not, then, for your info, this turret was clearly on a gunnery range as a target.
Tommygunn probably another wot player without tank knowledge.. i still respect him and let him enjoy ;)
Wait, so they actually blew up the tank?
yes they did, at first I thought it was some hollywood magic, but, they actually blew it up
where is abadoned tank near the Poland
+Jakub Brandys Your have to got through the abandoned tank films, there are some near Poland
+Mick Wilson what is the near the Warsaw
Need to restore WW2 planes tanks vehicles etc still out there
Yes
Brett Lloyd pretty much all the planes have been recovered and restored. Tanks are rare other than the ones on the bottom of the sea. After the war they were not needed and scrapped for the metal. It’s only in Russia that they find tanks buried in marshes and bogs and are in remarkable shape.
I am wondering why every Sherman whits is knock out should be by Tiger tank.Probably it was taken out from a PZ IV tank as it was common to those days
Amazing just super amazing
In the U.S. Army those are called "Track Jacks" not Track Clamps. We like to rhyme things. :)
That’s so cool!
Hope they take cart of it
in Fury, the Sherman is not a M4A4 but the M4A3E8 ;)
You might want to watch this video again, and this time pay attention.
tyres? You mean tires right?
Restored NOT FOR FURY by Marcus Glenn 5 years ago, they found the turret in a scrap yard and the hull was bought from someone else
Nothing to do with Marcus Glenn, we restored it and was used in Fury? Turret was in Ian Huhges garden, what are you talking about 514th.co.uk/english/site.php?use=Forum&act=viewtopic&t=1469
Wait, did they really shoot a sherman in the movie, I mean a real sherman!?!Or was it a holly wood prop as I hope?
Well blew it up, they didn't shoot it.
its Hollywood it's all fake, you cant blow a Sherman up for a movie, read the description
***** They did use pyrotechnics. They blew up the turret, but the tank itself was not.
I was there for the filming, the turret was fiberglass, it was blown off with compressed gas then lots of special effects
No Way! Who on Earth would shoot a live round into such a great beast? They couldn't have done it on a cardboard turret?
Because once these were obsolete they were scrap.just about every military post would then use them for targets.
You know, I was wondering if that is one of my tanks.I know I parked it somewhere.🌐
i see the tiger hit the turret and ammo racked it and the turret blew off.
More interesting than the movie...
Este tanque no es el fury tedas cuenta por la parte de las orugas el verdadero era un m4a3e8
That Ram looks like it was at a firing range.
+Ficus Wizard Yes it was on Pirbright ranges being shot at for 60 years
***** What a shame:(
the sad things is we only life 1 times :( and maybe we can enjoy it for 1 times too before our son sell it :(
Didn't think that they actually had to blow up the tank...
"The Fury" sherman was and easy 8 I think?
the fury sherman was indeed an M4A2(76)wHVSS easy 8 only refers to the E8 experimental shermans with the HVSS suspension
Shanee Bahera not try a be a dick but I'm pretty sure it was a M4A3E8
M4A4s had the HVVS wheel system
Nice video, but very unsatisfactury that you not see it till the tank is totally completed!! I think its not "unfortunately" a museum bought this tank, rather to cash money, and that is a choise you make, no problem offcourse, butt wich museum bought it!!! That is not a secret i guess?

Those Sherman turret , and the ram III front hull are heavly damaged by heavy MG 😗😖
This is NOT, the "Fury" Sherman . . . it DOESN'T have the Fury's TRACKS, which were the "Split-Type" . . . it may be one of the "Other" Sherman's in the film, but its NOT "Fury" !
That is right, if you read the info, i said it is one of tanks that gets blown up in the Fury movie, watch part one first

jeb stuart you forget by late war there were a lot more rookie crews being sent out as they were desperate. Also the movie is about what the horrors of war do to people, not an accurately historical one.
jeb stuart The reality is the Sherman was a very good tank and ahead of must German tanks

The very stuped tank in armored tank history WW II!
It was right tank for wrong war. It was fast, easy to fix, two per train flat bed for transport, can be made in numbers, butttt!, was no match for German tanks!! USA only out numbered German tanks to win
