This is exactly what I need; I do need a little break down of adding it to my system path was a little fast to follow and have not done that before. After you get into the environment variables window you just do new link to where you saved the file? Wasn't really sure what you clicked on after that? Did you just edit and past the link to the file again within the path? Any help would be appreciated.

Is there really no way to do this without buying a very expensive license? I am a student and really need to be working in qgis mainly but a lot of the basemaps etc I need are in .lyr format. Thanks again
Hi Hedda, this video is how to create .qmls from esri stlye databases. If you create the style db in ArcGIS first then you shouldn't have a problem. The funding model for this tool is that as funding milestones are reached more features are available in the community edition. Sharing these videos and letting people know about SLYR and North Road might help to reach those funding milestones. Also, for basemaps see here: th-cam.com/video/2vsM-ccd44o/w-d-xo.html
The lyr file would reference a shapefile. The shapefile holds the attribute table and the geometry and the layer file just holds the symbology. Without access to the shapefile you won't be able to see anything when you add the lyr file
Hey! I have a question. Does this tutorial only works for vetorial layers? I'm trying to do the same for a raster layer, but when I insert the layer and go to the properties, I can't find the "xml" to apply. I did all the steps (since the convert ESRI to QGIS style XML, into adding to the favorites). Did I miss something? Can you help me, please? Thanks!
Hi Vivian, thanks for hte question. It should work for rasters but may trip up if you're using color mapping in your Arc project. Did you get tot eh bottom of this?

Hi K Jane, the free version of SLYR will only do so much. At this point some of the tools are only available in the licensed version. With the free version you can convert .style mdb to QGIS.

I've tried searching online to fix the issue but I'm really struggling. :( Do you know what I might be doing wrong?
